CCD Links It Up Vol #15

It is that time again folks... time to see all the other great work people around the Net are doing! I do spend a lot of MY free time creating the CCD experience, but I spend an inordinate amount of time perusing the intrawebs & intranets for some cool stories. Today you can check out some Pokemon noir in comic form (for all you Poke kids who are all grown up now!), take a look at how the Evil Dead remake just gained further approval from horror fans everywhere, get the Ipad/Iphone app that will truly bring you inside the world of Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, check out our weekly hooties via The Chive, and buy some horror themed winter hats... all after the jump!!!!



1) Pokemon has been around for quite some time, but it is taking on a whole new life with an excellent web comic entitled Pokecenter by Ray Bruwelheide that takes a darker, more adult twist to the magical monster tale. It is very noir and looks pretty violent, and it is promised to continue... so get in on the ground floor now!!!  

2) The Evil Dead remake is looking pretty fucking fantastic, and it is restoring faith to horror fans that some of the classics could be remade with some success after snoozers like Friday the 13th & the Elm St reboots. One of the reasons has to be the involvement of Sam Raimi as a producer, and him pushing the director & writer to amp up the violence factor. Well I guess they did their jobs, because /Film is reporting that the film has received an NC-17 rating for its first cut... which is awesome!!!! That means they included a bunch of nasty stuff in there to intentionally get cut and give us a nice hard R rating, which is a great start.

3)  Matthew Modine, aka Private Joker, wrote a book about the grueling experience of shooting Full metal Jacket for screen legend Stanley Kubrick. It is one of my favorite movies and Modine gave a career defining performance in the film. Well he teamed up with app developer Rackoff & some funding from Kickstarter and turned his Full Metal Jacket Diary into a complete interactive app for the Iphone/Ipad. It is 9.99, and I am going to be busy for the next few weeks...

4) Oh Chive, thank you for being you. Today's hottie gallery on The Chive comes in the form of the girls of the Redhead Rebellion. Good lord, these gingers are bringing the heat... and not just in the crotch area!!! How unbelievable is #40 (pic below)? A great gallery of chicks....

5) Even though you think it is starting to approach spring, winter is still in full effect. So if you are a horror fan like me, why not go ahead and order yourself a few horror movie themed winter hats from Inked Up Merch's Etsy shop for a mere 12.00 bucks a piece? Stay warm and retro sheek at the same damn time!!! 

Mike Mitchell Re-skins A Classic Superman Pose With Some Of You Favorite Pop Culture Characters

Artist Mike Mitchell is extremely talented. He has many detailed works that are absolutely fantastic. But sometimes its the simple ideas that shine the brightest. Mitchell is taking the classic Superman pose that is exhibited on the cover of Superman #6 and re-skinning them with the clothing and looks of some of your favorite pop culture characters. He admits that it is not truly challenging work, but it is super fun and he enjoys doing it. Don't knock the guys talent though... his original artwork is nothing to laugh about! 'O Captain, My Captain' or shall I says Captains...all 15 of 'em...in a cute 'Terrence & Philip' sort of style. Can you name 'em all? Captain Hook...Captain Planet......Captain Crunch.............

Looks like our favorite intergalactic Wookie gave himself 'A Very Bad Shave'. He's such the metrosexual these days.

...And speaking of Chewbacca, the everpopular Wookie/Cookie Monster mash-up gets another redo in 'Cookie War'. I like the addition of a more-than-fully operational Chocolate Chip Death Star in this one. 

'Space Invaded' takes minimalistic design in the opposite direction and adds an intergalactic twist! Your favorite 8bit Atari invaders have shifted into high gear to attack a town near you.

'Ninja Panda' ...like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, only, cuddlier. Everybody's Kung Fu fighting these days. Hyeee-Yah!

'Gotta Catch 'Em All'  imagines biblical folk hero, Noah, as possibly the worlds first Pokemon trapper. I choose you...um....Elephant of the Serengeti. 

'The Baby's Gun' doesn't look like it should be toyed with. Love the colors and want to kill something with it! Yep...it's a keeper! 

'SUPER Mario!' is a funky Dragonball Z/Super Mario Bros. mash-up. Watch out...this plumbers gone Super Saiyan!

'About to Blue' is an homage to one of the greatest comedic TV shows in the history of television...'Arrested Development'. Be careful not to blue yourself in public. 

Skeletor, The Dungeon Master, Shredder, Magneto, and.....Mumm- Ra ..the eveeeeer.....liviiiiiing have aligned forces in a small way to take on the forces of good in 'Minimalist Villains'. Like?...or Hate?

And my favorite, original design this week is 'Killer in the Sky'. I'd rock the shit out this one when I go shooting birds in the park at midnight. Blam! Blam! Blam! .....caaaaw

The Incredible 'Hulk' gets emblazoned on your chest just in time for his SMASHing, return, appearance in this Summer's Marvel team-up film 'The Avengers'!

They're all gonna laugh at you...when you sport this 'Carrie' homage tee 'Prom Queen' to the next dance. 

Star Wars 'Probe Droid' get's the imperial job done! Simple, basic & stylized, this design will have all the young 

rebels reaching for their blasters.

'Brick Legend' includes my favorite hobby, Lego building and collecting, in a totem pole of awesomeness. Any fan of the brick is a friend of mine. 

'Reconstructive Duckie' has this aging goose going under the knife to keep up with the Joneses and just be another Botox & plastic beak in the crowd. The concept quacked me up...and I liked the finished product. 

'Little Operators' at work within the 'system'. All of my major bodily functions are being represented here in a with a fresh take on things. You don't want to see what's going on in my liver though.

'Lions Tigers and Bears' Cowardly lions take all the abuse.....mostly from thier bullying older siblings. 'Wizard of Oz'....best film ever. I'd roar into Emerald City with this one on any day.

This next designer homage my favorite thriller TV show of all time, 'Lost'. 'Dharma Death Station' is about as cool as a Dharma station as your ever gonna witness. Too bad none have ever lived to tell what goes on inside! ....I'll take one in each color, please.

'Psybeam' gives a nod to the, often overlooked,  Pokemon character Alakazam...in this totally headbangin' metal tee. 

'Wild BEARd' reminded me of by buddy Calvin from our sister-station Calvin's Canadian Cool up in the frozen North. That's why it pains me sooo much to have to say that......

....my FAVORITE this week, 'Octavio's Tentacles' wraps it's treacherous appendages around my torso....and is a simple design that I'd totally rock the f*ck out of! Sorry that it depicts the tentacles of the dreaded nemesis of the Cave of Cool.

The neat-o polo emblem design contest continues this week over at Threadless ...and here's three that caught my attention.....

'LaZombie' is reminiscent of the LaCoste Gator...only hungrier....much hungrier!

...and 'Zombie Polo' is a great take on the Ralph Lauren Polo design only with a new player on the field.

'Skip the Alligator' includes my favorite 8-bit adventurer, Pitfall Harry in on the pratfalls of a LaCaoste Gator   infested swamp.

'Junk in the Trunk' unexpectedly transforms some of this cross-country traveler's scenery. Love the fatty holding on for his dear life to the trunk carpeting. Tranform...and evacuate!

The 'Mystery Autobot' in question has obviously transformed from the stylish Scooby Doo vehicle...the 'Mystery Machine'. There's a Scooby Doo celebrity mash-up I'd like to see happen.

and there's no mystery as to who's behind this murder by numbers with it's typical cast of so-and-so's in 'Murder Mystery'

'The Birth' of the chest burster from the Alien saga will stop your heart from beating dead in it's tracks!

...and 'Savage Instinct' brings one my favorite DragonBall Z characters Oozaru to life in a delicious shade of purple!

'Raidachu' electrically mashes up two of my  favorite video game icons. Mortal Kombat's Raiden...and Pokemon's Pik-tastic battler Pikachu! Round 1....fight!

Last but, certainly not least my ABSOLUTE favorite this week was 'The Siege' starring my favorite movie theater candy (and sometimes 80's Disney Cartoon characters) the Gummi bears in full-out warfare for color domination. Of his work, the Tee artist had this to say (to my amusement)
"After months of racial tension, the siege of the Red Gummies has begun." Can't all we Gummi's just get along? Or atleast get in my mouth!

I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old.  Enjoy!

I wasn't interested in a iPhone, one bit, until I saw these nifty iPhone snap on case by Smallworks.com which are actually for sale on Amazon.com. DROID, please!

Larry Lars has some explosive 'Halo' customs over on his Flickr page. To me, these actually rival the  exclusive 'Halo' figures sold by the dreaded Lego competitor Mega Blocks. Great job, Mr. Lars!

Over at the Brother's Brick website I spotted those rare birds that are garnering their 15 minutes of fame via their trendy phone app 'The Angry Birds'!

Sly Owl posted this holiday treat! An Homage to Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' with all of the novel/films best scenes (and ghosts) built all into one creatively cool playset. Feast your eyes on the feast at Bob Cratchit's home. Marvel at the bedroom spook scene! Be terrified at the graveyard scene! Bah Humbug!

Flickr friend, Profound Whatever, posted this super-realistic 'Ghostbusters' ghost trap. Who ya gonna call? Lego?! Thanks to Mr. Mike D. and the rest who forwarded this gem!

Also from Profound Whatever, is this rickity rockety Rock 'em Sock 'em robots tribute in rock-solid Lego brick! DING-DING-DING!
