The CCD Podcast: Episode #105 - Rogue One and The State of Star Wars

2016.... wow, what a year. We have seen monumental accomplishments in pop culture... Marvel movies and TV shows we never could have imagined seeing (Dr. Strange, Power Man), ratings that nerd shows can't believe (Game of Thrones, Westworld and the Walking Dead are some of the highest rated and most popular shows on TV), retro properties are hotter than ever (any thing from the 80s/80s that is re-released is sure to be a hit). Man, 2016 is certainly one of the best years to be alive and basking in the glory of the nerd-iverse! And what better way to wrap it all up in a sweet little bow then the FIRST EVER non saga Star Wars movie? Rogue One is here,... and we are EXCITED to discuss it, as well as what ramifications it's success will have on the whole Star Wars franchise! Join Jedi Rob, Joey Armao and Mike D as we chop it up CCD style in the Nerd Cave... long live 2016!!!!

The CCD Podcast: Episode #88 - The Final Curtain at The Ziegfeld Theater & The Force Awakens With The O.G. Three!

When it comes to Star Wars, great things come in 3s. The original trilogy consists of THREE classic films... The main triumvirate of characters are Luke/Leia/Han... In the prequels there were 3 awesome bad guys (Dooku/Grievous/Darth Sidious) at once... R2, C3-PO and Chewy are the 3 best supporting characters one could ever have... The greatest film in the series (EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) has three words in its title... I could go on and on if need be, but trust me when I say that 3s are significant to the whole Star Wars series. So it is only fitting that the ORIGINAL THREE podcasters who started the CCD Podacst reunited to discuss their takes on The Force Awakens... and we even attended the last EVER screening at the historic Ziegfeld Theater in NYC to make the experience even that more special. So join the OG Three (Jedi Rob, Mike D and Jeff 'JB Smoove' Bond as we break down the dopest movie in the galaxy one last time!

The CCD Podcast: Episode #84 - The Force Awakened

While lots of people had interesting ideas on what might happen in The Force Awakens before it came out and others have had many thoughts since it came out, there is really only one persons thoughts on the subject that we actually care about: Our resident Star Wars nerd/aficionado Jedi Rob Martin. As an obsessive fan of all things Star Wars and the host of our illustrious nerd filled podcast, Rob decided to take a moment to hit you guys with a little "one on one" podcast explaining his general thoughts on the movie. He talks about his likes and dislikes, as well as hopes moving forward. If you were a fan of the latest installment, give this episode a listen and see what our "EXPERT" gets wrong and right in his analysis. Then make sure you let us know in the comment section....

As an added bonus this week, here is some 'Star Wars: A Force Awakens' themed art from Tommy Lombardozzi... if you are interested in prints of these, send him a message via facebook by clicking here or check out some other stuff he has for sale over at www.tommylombardozzi.com

#DarkSideNYC May Be The Funniest/Nerdiest Street Ad Campaign Ever...

What a perfect way to celebrate Star Wars day today. These propaganda posters started popping up all over Brooklyn and are hastagged #DarkSideNYC... they gotta be legit from LucasFilms/Disney, right? Maybe not... but they certainly are funny! And interesting modern day twist on Master Yoda's famous quote to Luke from Empire Strikes Back:

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”---- Yoda

The CCD Podcast: Episode #84 - The Greatest Day to Be a Star Wars Fan

There are days in all people lives that stand out as moments that you can never forget... they are referred to as 'touchstones', an unforgettable mix of emotions that mere mention of causes you to be back at the moment instantly. I may only be 36, but I have a few of these moments. The minutes leading up to the screening of Return of the Jedi back in the day... watching Ghostbusters at Crossbay I with my pops, checking out the Phantom Menace with Sam down in Miami. these were all touchstone moments for me. And I am not sure, but I think I am about to have one again. As we stand here on the verge of the release of The Force Awakens, I am simply ready to be over-whelmed. I am eager to have these memories etched in my head forever. And this day... the last day BEFORE the movie comes out, will forever be remembered as "Star Wars Eve"! Check out Jedi Rob, Joe Esq and the lovely Ms. Alicia Gomes as they discuss their undying anticipation for the movie just one day before its release....

The CCD Podcast: Episode #83 - Behind The Scenes of Star Wars Battlefront with Viktor Lundberg

Star Wars mania is in full effect just a few days ahead of the release of The Force Awakens, and a lot of that has to do with the hype for anything that is "new" in the Star Wars universe. Preceding this newest film by about a month or two, Star Wars: Battlefront set the gaming industry on fire and got everyone excited for what was to come! We were lucky enough to score an interview with one of the designers on the smash hit game, Viktor Lundberg, in the CCD Nerd Cave and got a behind the scenes perspective on everything that goes into a game of that magnitude. Join Jedi Rob, Viktor and Amit Saxena as they chop it up... it will wet your appetite for the upcoming STAR WARS Baby!!!!

The CCD Podcast: Episode #82 - The Star Wars Art Show

CCD.NYC has been sponsoring live art shows around Brooklyn for the past year, and one of the places we got the inspiration to do those shows was from our good friend Joseph Milazzo. Milazzo is a talented musician and artist himself, and he has been putting together shows for years now. We liked his format of rotating artists in for each so and having a theme... so we kinda stole it and added the pop culture twist! So when Joe told us that his next show was going to be focusing on a Pop Culture phenomenon such as Star Wars we had to have him on the podcast to tell us all about it! The 15 pieces from the show will be on display on Saturday Dec 12th at 3 Jolly Pigeons bar in Bay Ridge (click here for details) all night, but listen to Jedi Rob chop it up with Joe and one of the other artists in the show Al Accettura as a bit of a sneak preview!!!

7 Reasons Why Luke’s Not the Villain In Star Wars: The Force Awakens by James West

First of all, full disclaimer: if he is, then, well, I’ll look foolish. And hate JJ Abrams. But, as detailed below, I really, really doubt it.

There’s much buzz around the internet lately, and by lately I mean since the first Episode VII trailer came out last year, about the Force Awakens. Which makes sense, it’s arguably the most anticipated movie...ever? And certainly projected to be a blockbuster behemoth. Moreover, very rarely do we have a pop culture movie that seems *important* - but this does. Important to the fans, important to cinema, important to anyone who values the story from the Holy Trilogy (I don’t hate the prequels, but that’s a discussion for another day). But, now, those values are under attack – attack by sensationalist journalists and the people who share their articles. The most outrageous of these claims? That Luke Skywalker is the villain in The Force Awakens. Why? Why would someone make that claim? Who would think to create a theory so maligned with the original movies?

Read more after the jump...

Who, I’m not sure. The “Why” seems to be rooted in the fact that Luke is not in the trailers and Kylo Ren has Vader’s helmet. Here’s why that’s all wrong, to stop sharing that story, and Luke is NOT the villain in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.  Luke *is* in the trailer.

See? See that? That’s Luke. He’s right there. I guess it could *not* be Luke, and just some other guy in a robe with a robot arm who hangs out with R2-D2. I know that’s *possible*. But is it likely? No. Not at all.

Kylo Ren is played by a different actor...

As you can see, that is not Mark Hamill. That is Adam Driver. Adam Driver is playing Kylo Ren. Mark Hamill is playing Luke Skywalker. They are different actors. This isn’t difficult.

DRIVER IS IN THE TRAILER TOO!

LOOK?! SEE?! Even if all those costly photoshoot photos are merely a ruse, you can clearly see the back of Kylo Ren’s unmasked head in the trailer and it is *totally Adam Drivers head*. Jeeze.

Snoke? I dunno no Snoke.

“Okay, so he’s not Kylo Ren...but what if he’s Snoke? The other bad guy?” No. See Andy Serkis? He’s playing Snoke. See all that equipment? Unless he’s undergoing mo-cap to look like Mark Hamill, which wouldn’t make sense because Mark Hamill is alive and well and *in the movie*, Snoke is not Luke. Even if they share the last two letters of their name. Let’s be real. Plus, Snoke is the one speaking over the very first trailer “The dark side...and the Light.”

Luke turning bad is the plot to Return of the Jedi and it DID NOT HAPPEN

Remember Return of the Jedi? Remember that one? Luke’s arc, the plot of the movie, the conclusion of the trilogy, the moral of the story, was that Luke *did not go bad*. He comes close. But the Emperor failed. Luke was a Jedi, like his father Anakin was. That, plus Vader’s redemption, are the conclusion of the two biggest character arcs in the trilogy. Making Luke the bad guy would completely undo every moral and message the first trilogy represented. Not only wouldn’t it make sense, it would be damaging.

 #contractuallyobligatedfacialhair

Why else would he need the beard? The contractually obligated beard that he’s growing out in time for Episode VIII but had to keep for VII? The one that makes him LOOK LIKE A JEDI? C’mon.

This picture, which has not yet been debunked.

‘Nuff said....

The CCD Podcast: Episode #65 - The Sucklord Pt. 2 or "The Sucklord Strikes BACK!!!"

When we got the awesome opportunity to enter the Suckhole and interview the amazing artist known as Sucklord in his natural habitat we were very lucky. But we were also smart about this fortunate setting, and so we parlayed that episode into a SECOND full length episode in which we planned on discussing all things STAR WARS related with the SW Aficionado himself. Past Star Wars films, toy lines, cartoons, comics, the extended universe, and what the franchise may have in store for us in the future were all topics discussed by our crack team of Jedi Rob and Amit Saxena with the one and only Sucklord. The conversation spans over almost 40 years of pop culture goodness, so pay attention and learn something from this one...

Toy Fare 2015: Pics From The Showroom Floor Pt. 1 by Mike D

I had the luck (wink, wink... thanks Gary!) to garner some passes to this years 2015 Toy Fare in NYC. For those who don't know what the hell that is, it is the MAIN trade show where EVERY toy company showcases what they have coming out for the next year. This is where they secure funding for what they want to do for the next year, where prototypes become reality... basically a peak inside 2015/16 for the whole toy industry. I went in thinking it would be kind of cool, however once I was there I was OVERWHELMED! I took over 300 pics.... here are a few for you. Enjoy the pics after the jump, and check back later for the rest of the pics in collections part 2 and 3.
