The 'Albuquerque Action Squad' Mini Fig Set via Citizen Brick

Citizen Brick is every Lego lovers dream site... a place when they can buy custom brick sets and mini figs alike. They make the more... well, lets be generous and say "questionable" sets and mini figs that a wholesome company like Lego might be less inclined to make. You know... like tiles marked 'ammo' or mini figs like the Hail Satan Enthusiast. Wholesome stuff like that. But it is there newest addition to the already extensive catalog that got my attention; Meet 'The Albuquerque Action Squad' !!! Yup, CB is venturing into the world of Breaking Bad, with three figs that will satisfy any fan of the blue: 1) Legal Defense Enthusiast (Saul) 2) Drug Dealing Enthusiast (Jesse) and 3) Law Enforcement Enthusiast (Uncle Hank). I applaud them for not going right away with a Mr. White/Heisenberg figure... but I am eagerly awaiting a second wave that may feature a half burn Gustavo Fring figure! For now, these three will have to do. They will run you $55 bucks for the set, but once they sell out they will probably be worth much more than that. Lego's Abound - A Three-peat !!!

I have been getting so many Lego based stories into my inbox from my gang that I don't know what to do... so I decided to throw together a little 3 peat post. 3 different stories, all amazing in their own right. First up, we got an an Alien themed build. But this one is surprisingly simple and only requires a few pieces (only 20), which is rarely a featured property in Lego build posts. The second story comes from a more familiar place. How about a Hobbit/Lord of the Rings themed mega build that requires a bit of time... oh, and 200,000 pieces! And the final one is a crazy mosaic of one of my favorite characters in movie history... it kinda ties the room together, ya know? Check all three out after the jump..

The 50 States... Lego-ized! by Jeff Friesen

We have always been big supporters of Lego here at CCD... especially our good buddy Jeff Bond. So whenever I come across a cool build project or a photographer who documents extremely cool Lego scenes, i always post them. This is a pretty cool project courtesy of photographer Jeff Friesen and his blog The Brick Fantastic. He decided to create a scene for each of the 50 states and then photograph each of them... and they are all really cool! I love the various characteristics that he chooses to highlight with each state, and how each portrait is both serious and humorous all at once. Lego Haunted Houses By Mike Doyle

Just in time for Halloween, artist Mike Doyle has created these beautifully detailed Victorian mansions out of nothing but Legos. He uses no outside materials when creating these houses, and one house can take up to 600 hours to make and uses 130,000 pieces to build.

Doyle says about his work that they "speak to the inherent unpredictability of those things which we call our foundation." He also mentions that "the piece offers no answers or necessarily any hope, but rather points to life’s fragility."

New York Comic Con 2013 - Mega Bloks

In years past one of the coolest booths on the floor has always been the Lego booth. It is usually huge, and features about 5-10 life size statues compiled of the miniature blocks that often are impossible to comprehend. There are usually themes, like the 8 ft Incredible Hulk that was in the booth last year or the insane Darth Maul... great stuff. They also offer a shit ton of show exclusives, which CCDers Jeff Bond and Joe Fletch often. It is usually the first booth we earmark on our map. But this year, Lego was conspicuously absent from the floor plan. Yup... no booth. WTF??? (check out this article on The Brick Fan that breaks down the "why"...) While the guys and gals over at the Brick Fan may be on to something as to why Lego DID NOT appear this year, it is obvious that the guys who book booth for the NY Comic Con knew that they would be missing a cool booth from the floor and decided to reach out to a company who makes similar products to Lego. Enter Mega Blok, the baby brother to Lego in the snap together toy business. Mega Blok has been around forever, but recently they have acquired some high quality tie-in toy licenses to make sets that will get peoples attention. Halo, Hot Wheelz, Skylanders... yup, those are some big names. So they gave them a booth right in front one of the escalator entrances, and Mega Bloks didn't disappoint! They spent FRi, Sat and Sun dedicating one day to each toy partner (Fri- Hot Wheelz, Sat - Halo, and Sun - Skylanders) and loaded up their booth with huge models of a character from each franchise. These statues were great, and teamed with the constant stream of giveaways and playable toy stations the booth was a hit. Definitely helped lessen the blow of losing Lego. This Is Thriller... Lego Style!!!

I came across this excellent short Lego animation video while I perusing Vimeo (something more people should do) and I knew I had to post this for my buddies Jeff Bond and Joe Fletch, who are both two big Lego nerds. In this video the people from the Talking Animals Animation Studio take the opening scene of Michael Jackson's Thriller and absolutely kill it. The transformation of Jackson's from a Varsity jacket wearing boyfriend to John Landis designed werewolf using those little colored bricks is just spectacular to see. And Talking Animals has plenty more where that came from. Lego Hogwarts

God knows how much we love the Legos around here on CCD... ain't that right Jeffery Bond? And as a huge Harry Potter fan, I have to admit that I geeked out a bit when I came across this video on the internet. I am becoming a big fan of these big scale Lego builds, and I especially love the time lapse perspective that is used to illustrate just how long these massively intense major builds could take. CCD Links It Up Vol #16

It is about that time once again... time to check out what is going on around the Internet and see what others are sharing. This week we got some really interesting stuff to share, from cool ass art work to toy like furniture for your very own adult house. Also, as we lead up to the Oscars we get a glimpse at a history of what films each President has been proud to call their favorite. We also check in on my new musical obsession, The Alabama Shakes... and even more boobie action from the crew over at The Chive that are doing God's work. 1) My boy Sean Hartter has teamed up with my favorite horror blog Freddy In Space to create a cool ass poster for a toy that never existed, The Evil Dead Lincoln Log playset! I always love Hartter's insane thinking outside the box for his creative creations, and I hope this one will be offered at The Freddy In Space Society 6 shop (they got some great prints for sale there).

2) I have never been a huge fan of playing with Legos, but thanks to my good buddy Jeff Bond I have developed a certain affinity for the stackable toys. But one of the coolest crossover products I have seen in  a long time has to be the storage boxes that come from Room Copenhagen's Fab.com shop. These storage pieces are shaped like Lego bricks, stack accordingly, and happen to be cool as shit. If you are a fan of Legos, this is what you need to furnish your apartment with. All shapes and sizes available!   

3) With the Oscars on the horizon I have had movies on the brain. I came across a pretty cool article over at The Week that takes a look inside the minds of our Commander In Chief's and which movies were their favorites. A great read on the cusp of the pinnacle of the movie year...

4) I am absolutely obsessed with The Alabama Shakes. Their first album is fantastic, and I love everything about their first single 'Hold On'. I love the basic nature of the video, the fact that they highlight singer Brittany Howard despite the fact that she is not the traditional attractive looking front woman, and the fact that she sounds A LOT like Janis Joplin to me. Great video...
