The Legend of Dark Link

I caught this awesome Internet video over at The Warp Zone on Youtube and I was laughing hysterically the whole time. It traces back what really happened when Link wandered into that cave and met the wizard to get his sword. Let's just say he wasn't the only one out adventuring that day... Dark Link was right there with him!!! Gotta love some racist humor, especially when it involves kid punching... Check it out after the jump...

An Insane Zelda: The Windwalker Sandcastle- Live From the 2013 NY Comic Con

While we were wandering around the exterior of the Javits Center Joe Fletch and I stumbled across something pretty awesome going down. Nintendo had a big presence at this years con, releasing a ton of new games for Wii U and 3DS. Zelda has two titles in that release mix, The Windwalker HD for Wii U and A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS. In part of the celebration, Nintendo hired two sandcastle creators to sculpt an amazing replica of Windfall Island from The Windwalker in the parking lot of the Javits. The masterpiece took three days to complete (wed, thur and fri) and was on display for Sat and Sun in all its glory. I passed bye there on Friday, and it was almost done... but I never had a shot to get back on Sat or Sun. The pics I took show you just how awesome this was, even though it wasn't even finished yet! This is the kind of project that I love to see, and it supports the fact that Nintendo will always honor its past successes in cool ways to promote the future releases of the company. CCD Holiday Geek Gift Guide: Geeky Christmas Sweater T-Shirts

Even the most horrific classic Christmas gifts can be geek-asized so as to make them cooler. Hermit Wants To Haggle: A Legend of Zelda Fan Film

I recently downloaded Legend of Zelda onto my Wii counsel to see if it still had the same replay value, and even though it has been over 25+ years since its release the game is still awesome. But it all starts right at the begining with that first screen, and entering the cave to get that first sword. Inside you meet The Hermit, and he gives you your first sword for nothing. But what if The Hermit was a bit of a salesman, and decided to try and offer you a few more items? This question is answered in just another awesome Dorkly video. One of the coolest geek themed things that has happen in the past few years has been the upswing of t-shirt websites that are printing cool shirts based on geek properties. More and more artists are using their cool themed fan art that they create to turn them into cooler t-shirts. Ghost Glide is one of the best in the game at doing this right now, and his latest shirt had me hankering to the days of Nintendo's 8 bit Legend of Zelda even though it features every bodies favorite Asgardians, Thor & Odin! And I Said To Myself... What A Wonderful World!!!!

People get attached to the settings in every type of entertainment they consume,whether it is movies, books, video games, comics or anything else. The setting is so key to the background story that it often overshadows a majority of characters in the work, save for the most important characters. I mean, think how much more you remember about Hogwarts as opposed to the literally 100s of non main characters in the 7 books by J.K Rowling. Or how about the fact that after 20 years I can still remember how to navigate Hyrule when I downloaded Zelda on my Wii, yet forgot ALL of the 8 final bosses names in the game except for level 9 baddie Ganon? The setting can often make the story what it is and be the driving force in a work of fiction. With that being said, this is the most complete map of fantasy lands that I have ever seen. I have not been able to locate the creator of this map (I hate not creating brilliance) but all the links I am finding around the web seem to go back to the I WASTE SO MUCH TIME blog. So check them out cause their blog is cool and seems to be pretty chill. Tell em CCD sent ya! Before I start in with my regular weekly picks, I'd like to mention that Threadlsess has been running a 'Threadless Loves Pin-ups' challenge all week. Hot sluts in a 40's style pin-up homage. Here's a few of my favorites from that challenge. 

'Bombs Away' has a fire crotch going down...err...um...taking a one way ride to disaster. "Who does Number 2 WORK FOR!?"

Next up, get yourself invited to this 'Sexy Vampire Party' and expect the worse...but die happy mortal....or reach immortality. Either or.

This Intergalactic pin-up says she's 'Better Than Tang'. Oh, I bet she is....I.....bet.....she.....is!

'Mucha Pin Up' is an homage to the Alphonse Mucha masterpiece 'Moon' ...only this one gives me just a tad bit more boner. Oh, to be the 'man in the moon' on THIS occasion. "Le'Sigh"

And...finally, You'd be yelling for your prehistoric bride 'Wilmaaaaa !!!' like Fred Flintstone does all the time if you knew she would come running looking like THIS. Just be careful of the horse...umm...Dino she rides in on.

OK...enough of those mouth-watering hotties...on to something more geeky

'Minesweeper' is an basic, explosive homage to the web game of the same name. I like it's style though. 

'The Thinker' has our temper-tantrum throwing Avenger taking a break (brake?) from smashin' baddies, for a long ponderants of what's to come.

'Friend?' I think NOT! IT'S A CTHULHU!!

'Snowman Suicide' is clever. I don't think we can expect this frosty to be "...back on Christmas Day".

'Space Pirate' is skull & crossbones for the intergalactic jet-setter. I'm stunned.

'Death Star' Is a fun little Super Mario Bros./Star Wars mash-up. 2 of my absolute favorites....bet the princess is in another star system, though.

'As You Wish' ....assembles an all animal animated re-cast of our favorite swashbucking film 'A Princess Bride'. Perfect casting if you ask me. I want to see THIS reboot!

Any super-fan of the Legend of Zelda franchise nows that a great way to kill time, and gather rupees is to chase after a few fowl. but, maybe it's best if you 'Don't Mess With The Chickens'

'Dark Symmetry' is one for my man, Mike D. A perfect piece of Kubrick imagery for the 'The Shining' lovers. 

'The Samurai Battle'....fuck yeah! Gotta have THIS war prize. 

And my final...and FAVORITE pick this week was a design entitled 'I'm Not Picky'. Everything the designer clicks 'Like' to regarding film......and the inevitable dis-'Like'!

Scott Pilgrim & Ramona As Link & Zelda by Bryan Lee O'Malley

There is no denying how great Bryan Lee O'malley's Scott Pilgrim books are. I for one have been a huge fan ever since the first time I opened a page in those little black & white graphic novels. To me it has always been the distinctive style of art that O'Malley has put forward with the series that makes it so special. So somebody posted a sketch done by O'Malley back at Hero Con 2008 that depicted Scott & Ramona as Link and Zelda, and boy does this look great. Check after the jump for the full size pic...

'VHS Man' is a Retro super hero in the vein of X-men's Cyclops. I'm not sure of what his abilities might be...but, just keep him far from Magneto!

Jack & Jack collide in a Live-action Tim Burton mash-up perhaps in 'Jack T. Skeleton'

'HURP!' takes it in the neck in a classic way! I can totally see that happen for my pleasure in the next side-scrolling Super Mario adventure.

'Shot First' reissues the tired debate over who's first with the blaster fire. I just kinda liked this ones style. Shoot me!

'I Heart Quidditch' .....I do I do! I do fancy a game of Quidditch!

'QR Link' has busted probably my MOST favorite of the 8bit video game heroes...hiding in the sku!

....and 'It's Dangerous To Go Alone' exhibits the arsenal required to topple Link's foe Gannon once and for all!

'Soylent Green'...I keep tellin' youz......It's (SPOILER ALERT)!!

I hadn't really thought about playin' Super Mario Bros. while trippin' on 'shrooms (and the irony of that) until I saw THIS design...'Mario's Magic Mushroom Trip' ...pretty freaky!

And finally this week, there is ABSOLUTELY NO CONTEST as to what my favorite design is. You may have heard of Walking Dead...and subsequently '(Christopher) Walken Dead'.....but have you ever seen 'Joaquin Dead'? Amazing!! If ever an image should go viral...this is the one!
