Hi-C Horror from The Holidaze Blog

The gang over at the Holidaze Blog have been having a great time mocking up Hi-C juice boxes with a horror character theme for the Halloween season. They have had series 1 and series 2 in the past, and now we have series 3 to satisfy our horrific thirst! These are really cool, and I do enjoy the cleverness of the names of the particular juices and how they relate to the specific characters assigned to them. A great way to enjoy this wonderful Halloween with a nod back to the days of the brown bag lunch. Check them all out after the jump, the Wolfman Water is my fave by a long shot!

An Insane Zelda: The Windwalker Sandcastle- Live From the 2013 NY Comic Con

While we were wandering around the exterior of the Javits Center Joe Fletch and I stumbled across something pretty awesome going down. Nintendo had a big presence at this years con, releasing a ton of new games for Wii U and 3DS. Zelda has two titles in that release mix, The Windwalker HD for Wii U and A Link Between Worlds for the 3DS. In part of the celebration, Nintendo hired two sandcastle creators to sculpt an amazing replica of Windfall Island from The Windwalker in the parking lot of the Javits. The masterpiece took three days to complete (wed, thur and fri) and was on display for Sat and Sun in all its glory. I passed bye there on Friday, and it was almost done... but I never had a shot to get back on Sat or Sun. The pics I took show you just how awesome this was, even though it wasn't even finished yet! This is the kind of project that I love to see, and it supports the fact that Nintendo will always honor its past successes in cool ways to promote the future releases of the company. The Dr. Suess - Jurassic Park Themed Hotel That Can't Possibly Be Part Of a Major Hotel Chain.. But Is!

Chain hotels tend to be just that... links in a a chain. They are cookie cutter, exactly alike, and a word like unique is not often used to describe them. Holiday Inn, Best Western, Days Inn... no matter where you are in the country, if you walk into one of these places than you are basically going to see more of the exact same things. The lobbies are identical, the rooms are furnished the same, and the rates are about the same no matter where you go. Truly not unique. Unless you go to the Best Western in Denver.. than you are in for a treat!!! The BW in Denver decided to convert their hotel to a themed resort... not only one theme, but two! They love Dr. Suess, and they love dinosaurs... so why not make Suesstastic Park!!! Yup, the whole hotel has a dinosaur theme with a Suess-ian twist. This is so amazing, and even more impressive when you realize that you are getting such a unique experience while paying the same price as most other Best Westerns (around 90-100 a night). One of the coolest aspects has to be that they contacted awesome toy customizer Sillof to create some figures to display around the property that adopt the characteristics of what a Dr. Suess designed dinosaur would look like. This IS The Functional NES Controller Coffee Table You Are Looking For...

There are 'Do It Yourself' projects and then there are 'DO IT YOURSELF!!!' projects... some are just a bit more exciting then others. When I came across this step by step breakdown on how to construct a fully functioning (ie: PLAYABLE!) Nintendo controller coffee table I have to admit that this falls into the latter, much more exciting categories. Holy shit, a 3 x 3 ft playable game controller... with built in storage? Get the fuck outta here! What nerd wouldn't want this in his living room? I really love the detailed Imgur page that breaks down the whole process, cost and all (it came in around $400 bucks). The 'Godzilla' Remake Gets A Poster... Let The Weird & Wonderful Tie In Marketing Begin!!!!!!

As a long-time fan of the Godzilla movies and cousin to the biggest Godzilla fan ever (what up James West!) I for one am looking forward to the new Godzilla movie directed by Gareth Edwards (who directed the criminally under viewed 'Monsters'), mostly due to the amazing cast that will appear in the movie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olson, Brian Cranston, and Ken Watanabe just to name a few). A few days ago the first image of the actual Godzilla monster (above) was leaked due to a licensing convention in San Paolo, Brazil. It is the 1st time we see exactly what the monster looks like, and it looks like they have chosen to give him more human like facial features (as opposed to the over saturated CGI of the 90's version) and I am sold but, the key point is that the reveal was at a licensing expo, so that means product tie-ins. I don't know exactly what we will see in the future, but one item certainly has my attention. Godzilla Sake anyone???

Japanese artist Ito Shigeaki and liquor company Choujugura teamed up to create a Godzilla shaped sake bottle to help bring the monster to your liquor cabinet. It is filled with Shochu, which is apparently a liquor that is stronger than wine and sake. Fitting that the beast is filled with such a strong drink. The bottle opts for the older look of the King of All Monsters... but, this opens up the possibility of tons of cool merchandise tie ins we may see in the future. Thanks to my boy Cal from the Cave of Cool, I was pleased to find a fantastic meme creating website that is focused on sci-fi themed pulp fiction covers. Boilerplate: A Retrospective by Cal

I was watching The Wind and The Lion, an action adventure from the seventies starring Sean Connery, Candice Bergen and Brian Kieth as Teddy Roosevelt. The movie reminded me of the Robot named Boilerplate and how he was digitally inserted into 19th century history in the terrific faux textbook about the adventurous robot soldier. I was happy to hear that J.J. Abrams has decided to put the film version of the book into production.

Finally, Boilerplate saw some action in the Spanish-American War as he fought right begind Teddy Roosevelt. From there he went on to fight in the Phillipine-American War and the Boxer Rebellion in China and the Russo-Japanese War where Boilerplate made supply runs that were too dangerous for humans. Boilerplate traveled through the Arabian Desert with TE Lawrence despite the fact that the sand was a constant danger to his joints before heading out to fight in WWI where he disappears while delivering food and water to the Lost Battalion in the Argonne Forest.

J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot recently announced that they would produce a movie version of Boilerplate: History's Mechanical Marvel, Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett's 2009 graphic novel that follows the adventures of mankind's first robot.
