One of the coolest parts of the Game of Thrones HBO series has to be seeing the land of Westeros from the "A Song of Ice & Fire" books being brought to life. The ruggedness of Winterfell, the sheer cold & desolate atmosphere of The Wall, the urban aspects of King's Landing, the unsettled wilderness of the lands beyond the Narrow Sea... all of these spectacular locations have been brought to life with such grace and authenticity on the show thus far. But what if the show was set in modern day New York City? Where would Casterly Rock's riches be? Where would the Iron islands lie? Visit Florin & Guilder... Inconceivable!!!!

As a big fan of The Princess Bride I am always on the look out for cool shit related to the classic film. I take a lot of pride in the fact that my 9 year old son has phrases like "Inconceivable!!!", "Have fun storming the castle!!!", and "As you wish" firmly ingrained in his lexicon of memorable movie quotes. So when I saw this wonderfully detailed map of Florin & Guilder (The two main locales of TPB) over at my buddy Jaquandor's blog Byzantium Shores, I just had to steal it and re-post. There is no artist to credit, but it is quite spectacular and will make any real fan of The Princess Bride smile more than when Wesley kicked Humperdink's ass. Enjoy!!!

And I Said To Myself... What A Wonderful World!!!!

People get attached to the settings in every type of entertainment they consume,whether it is movies, books, video games, comics or anything else. The setting is so key to the background story that it often overshadows a majority of characters in the work, save for the most important characters. I mean, think how much more you remember about Hogwarts as opposed to the literally 100s of non main characters in the 7 books by J.K Rowling. Or how about the fact that after 20 years I can still remember how to navigate Hyrule when I downloaded Zelda on my Wii, yet forgot ALL of the 8 final bosses names in the game except for level 9 baddie Ganon? The setting can often make the story what it is and be the driving force in a work of fiction. With that being said, this is the most complete map of fantasy lands that I have ever seen. I have not been able to locate the creator of this map (I hate not creating brilliance) but all the links I am finding around the web seem to go back to the I WASTE SO MUCH TIME blog. So check them out cause their blog is cool and seems to be pretty chill. Tell em CCD sent ya! Panem Comes To Life: A Topographical Map Of The Lands Of The Hunger Games

I am one of the legion of Suzanne Collins fans who is eagerly anticipating the March release of the first hunger Games movie. Jennifer Lawrence is looking epic as Katniss and the movie is seeming to shape up quite nice. one of the key elements that the trailers seem to highlight would have to be the look and feel of the 13 Districts of Panem, or the country where the three books are set. while Suzanne Collins never outright declares where the stories take place, she does hint at the North American locations and certain aspects that make each District unique. V. Arrow and her contributor BadGuys are the official creators of Smart Pops The Panem Companion: The Unofficial Guide To Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games, and they came up with a topographical map to help illustrate where our story takes place in relation to the world we know. As a fan of the series, this is a really cool little project... and this is the sort of obssessing that I am glad someone else is doing because I do not really have the time anymore!
