The team is joined on this episode by longtime CCD contributors Al Accettura and Joey Armao as they discuss the many forays of Kirby into Outer Space... from his days on the Challengers of the Unknown, through the FF/Thor years at Marvel all the way through his 4th World Saga at DC!!!!

(5:01 - 10:15) - The early cosmic years for Kirby - Challengers of the Unknown and Sky Masters are Kirby's first forays into space. Breaking down the team members and how Jack used these projects to launch his cosmic ideas to a general public who were intrigued and scared by the frontiers of space.

(31:36 - 40:55) - Welcome BACK to DC Jack! Editor Carmine Infintino poaches Jack and brings him to DC. he offers him pretty much ANY book he wants... so jack picks Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen? This is the bridge to the 4th World... New Gods, Mister miracle and the Forever People!

( 40:56 - 47:30 ) - Back to Marvel... and introducing the Eternals! Jack introduces the Eternals, the Celestials and also Jack's Silver Surfer. He also does both the Treasury Edition of 2001: A Space Odyssey and the 2001 ongoing series.... in which we are introduced to Machine Man!

(47:31 - 51:00) - How did Jack disguise the fact that Black Panther, Devil Dinosaur and Kamandi were really outer space/alien books? Even though they don't seem to be...

My Parents Were Cool, But Not This Cool...

I had great parents that encouraged all of my idiosyncrasies and afforded me great things (like comics & toys) throughout my childhood. They allowed me to do what I wanted with my room, and I often decorated it with the things I loved (mostly comics & toys.. lol). But Joe Fletch sent me a Reddit thread that blows doors on anything I ever had as a kid... and it comes courtesy of a great dad that should be commended for being so creative. This dude turned his son's bedroom into Avengers Central, with all four corners of the room embodying each of the Big 4. They all have a corner, and each is cooler than the other. The Cap corner has his signature shield, Thor's corner has Mjolinir, Hulk's corner has his terrifying scowl, and Iron Man has his signature helmet. There is also a Stark Industry bookshelf, a hidden Ultron visage, a Iron Man suit breaking through the wall, and so much more.... really great! Parents need to pay attention, this is how you do it! Marvel Robots by Keanu 432

The robot has been becoming more and more prevalent in pop culture. Yup, everything has its way around. Vampires were hot about 5 years ago, then zombies. It is the robots time to shine. Pacific Rim, Transformers 4, Almost Human... yeah, its time for the robot overkill. Enter artist Keanu 432, who decided to re-imagine some of the classic Marvel characters as if they were robots. You certainly get the feel that this is how they would look if they were robot like beings. These are quite good, and he has other cool stuff over at his Imgur page. Geek Construction Done Right - Man At Arms: Mjolnir

Man At Arms is a cool series that allows a master blacksmith Tony Swatton a chance to hone his craft and apply it to weaponry from geek culture. He has made a ton of weapons for movies, TV shows, and much more... and Awe Me has decided to create a web series based on his cool ass creations, and they are fantastic. I have watched about 7 of them already... but the one that is most recent has the most baring on current events. Thor is hot right now thanks to The Dark World, and Swatton makes a copy of Mjolnir that is just crazy! It is hollow, yet still weighs TWENTY POUNDS!!!! Good lawd! Not this is not the first time we have seen replica weapons made. Our good buddies over at Skelton Key Studios have killed many a replica (check out where we featured them here and here)... but those were not PRACTICAL weapons in the sense that they were fakes that just looked really great. These are usable weapons being made by Swatton... just check the video for proof of that. Make sure you check out all the videos they have, and check out the Mjolnir list after the jump...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Thus Far by One Man Sidekick

One Man Sidekick is a graphic artist who loves that Marvel Cinematic Universe. He decided to show his love for the excellent work that Marvel is doing on the big screen by compiling some pieces of all the major characters from each film, giving them all the proper shine they deserve. These are absolutely great, given the fact that he is using stock images of the characters. The way he arranges them and makes them play off each other, and also chooses specific versions of each character to bring his pieces to life. Check them all out after the jump... he even has a Thor 2: The Dark World one in there, so that he is right up to date!!!

'Thor: The Dark World' Just Keeps Looking Better & Better

One of the biggest surprises of the Marvel Cinematic universe so far has to be the success of Thor. Not the character itself (any character in Avengers would have done well), but the actual ability of the first movie to pull off the mystical elements associated with the character and make it relatable to the real world is nothing short of amazing. Thor took an obscure, not very easy to like character and made him a shining star... and honestly, thank god (or the gods... lol) for that. Chris Hemsworth was born to play this guy, and the supporting cast was quite epic (Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, and Stellan Skarsgard just to name a few). So after the events of Avengers (which only includes Thor & Loki in the movie, eschewing all of the other characters from the Thor film) we get to return to the world that Kenneth Branagh developed with Thor: The Dark World. This film looks a lot darker, and seems to be filled with a ton of action. We also now have a second trailer, which provides us with a look into the magical world of Asgard and all the wonders that it has to offer. But one thing I have noticed is that we don't see much about the main baddies Malekith the Accursed & Kurse, two of the Dark elves that are going to be Thor's main adversaries. It seems like they are dangling Loki a lot in the trailer in the hope to convince people he is the movies villain and then they will play a switcheroo and have Loki stay true as a good guy (well as good as he can be) and bring the elves on as a surprise. Kinda like they did with the Chitauri and Loki in the Avengers movie (Loki was promoted as the baddie, but the invading alien Chitauri were actually the real big threat). Either way, Thor: The Dark World sure does look like fun and will be an awesome way to end the summer movie season when it comes out in November. Check out the second trailer after the jump...

10 Awesomely Sexy Gender Swapping Cosplayers From SDCC 2012

Cosplay is reaching all new heights with every convention that comes and goes. More companies are making kick ass costumes, people are becoming better at creating costumes themselves, and the creativity level has gone far past the norms of just silly Superman's & Batman's. But one of the coolest things that is happening more and more is gender swapping costumes. I am noticing more and more gender swapped characters at these things, and to be honest its a trend I am digging in full. Think about it... there are mad male characters for girls to slut up, and I would much rather see a sexy Chewbacca or Thor than a chubby nerd in those roles (even though most of those nerds have cool costumes as well!). So I decided to peruse the galleries of Cosplayers that were posted over at Dorkly and highlight the top 10 gender swaps that appeared at this years comic con in San Diego.
