Rob Duenas Takes On The Star Wars Universe Via His Sketchcraft Blog

Rob Duenas is an artist that runs a very interesting art blog. Sketchcraft is a place where Duenas posts his current works of art, but he does so in a very interesting way. He posts multiple steps of the process that goes into creating a particular piece. His 'work in progress' pieces taking you through a step by step process of how a finish piece gets that way. It is a unique process that most artists don't really like to show. Whether or not they don't want to divulge their techniques, or if they just don't want a non-finished work seeing the light of critiques... it is rare that we get a glimpse into the whole process. What is real cool is that he posts different pieces at different stages of completion, and so you are never really zoomed in on one particular piece of his. You are seeing many different steps of creation for multiple pieces at once.... a great idea. His latest series happens to take on one of my favorite character groups, the Star Wars universe. Boba, Chewie, Han, Leia, Luke and Vader... yup, the gang is all here. This is one of the greatest mash-up T-shirts I have ever seen. Designed by Ian Leino, this shirt features everybodies favorite space pirate mashed up with England's favorite super spy. No matter what Lucas did to the final print of this movie, there is no fucking question that James Solo would be the one that shot first... and last. The Real Mos Eisley Cantina by Andy MacDonald

The Cantina Scene in the original Star Wars may be one of the most famous scenes in all of film history. You can ask pretty much anybody about that scene and they can remember some of the details of it... most notably the fact that Han shot first!!! But did you really pay attention to all the fringe villains and aliens that were occupying the grimiest bar in the galaxy? Probably not... and you should take another look. Artist Andy MacDonald takes us back to that faithful bar and reminds us that there were quite a few familiar faces in the crowd. Is that Alf & Beetlejuice making a guest appearance? 2) Probably the coolest Escape From NY T-Shirt I have ever seen. 25 bucks is a bit steep, but for this cool of a T-shirt is worth it. They also make 3X, for all you big nerds out there like me...

3) One of the many hats I don in my professional career is that of a private security guard for Citadel security, who provide security services for high end events like NYC Fashion Week, art gallery openings, antique shows, and NY Comic Con. My buddy Matt Hogan got interviewed by NPR during our latest stint at NYC Fashion Week just this past week, and the interview can be found here. Check out what I do when I am not looking at Fan Art, staring at boobies, and entertaining all of CCD's readers on the Internet.

4) Sean Harrter has a newly re-designed website. Same great artwork, just a new look to the layout that makes his work seem that much cooler. Not only is the guy a friend, but his work is more ambitious and keeps getting better with each piece he posts. Plus he is available for commissions. Hop to it!!!!!!

5) Finally... boobie time!!!!! Thanks to the gang over at Beer Mug Sports or bringing Valerie Mason to my attention. At 105 pounds with Double Ds, yup boobies are her middle name! Check out her spread here... 

The Kessel Run by Old Red Jalopy

There is a science to creating a faux movie poster, especially one in which you plan on using popular characters. You have to put these well known characters into a mash-up situation that befits their own characteristics but is also going to make fans of the original smile at how witty you are. The gang over at Old Red Jalopy are some of the best at this... and they have struck gold once again. I saw 'The Kessel Run' poster over at SuperPunch and I immediately giggled to myself and thought what a great idea this was. Click after the jump for the full size picture and some more thoughts...

The great Star Wars race, The Kessel Run, given a "Cannonball Run" feel with the font and the ensemble cast... how great of an idea is that? And much like Burt Reynolds's awesome car in Cannonball, nobody is possibly gonna keep up with the Flacon baby... What a great poster!!! Great job fellas... keep it coming!!!

Steampunk Star Wars, Done Right by Bjornn Hurri

Star Wars is definitely one of the more popular topics of fan art... everyone likes taking their own try at re-designing classic characters such as Chewbacca or Yoda. The Steam Punk variety of these re-creations seem to become more and more popular lately. But when an artist comes through with designs as cool as these, they deserve to be highlighted. Artist Bjornn Hurri has done just that, and this gallery is sick!!!! Since Luke, R2D2 & Darth Vader are missing I would venture to guess that Hurri is not done yet. Up Wars: The Golden Years by James Hance

Mashups come and go, but having that certain "wow" factor is what differentiates the great ones from the average. James Hance is certainly taking his artwork towards the great side of the aisle. Today's mash-up features a much older Han Solo & Princess Leia getting the ole Pixar 'Up' makeover. It is heartfelt and moving, and honestly perfectly thought out. Here is a few various Star Wars tidbits I found while perusing the internet over the past few days. With yesterday being Star Wars Day and with the 2011 Brooklyn Star Wars Marathon on the horizon (July 3rd @ The Wicked Monk) I thought it would be imperative to share them with you guys. Hope you enjoy.

First up, we got a awesome fan video of Corey Vidal (accapella singer extraordinaire) singing a tribute to John Williams. This isn't for the average person, but will warm the heart of any true Star Wars fan.



Next up, here is a deleted... er,um, an ADDED scene from Star Wars by artist Kerry Callen. Very fitting with the original tone of Episode IV, no?

And finally, here is another clip... this one features Chewbacca and his hatred of shoveling snow. You guessed it, Chewy is not the happiest camper.
