Rob Duenas Takes On The Star Wars Universe Via His Sketchcraft Blog

Rob Duenas is an artist that runs a very interesting art blog. Sketchcraft is a place where Duenas posts his current works of art, but he does so in a very interesting way. He posts multiple steps of the process that goes into creating a particular piece. His 'work in progress' pieces taking you through a step by step process of how a finish piece gets that way. It is a unique process that most artists don't really like to show. Whether or not they don't want to divulge their techniques, or if they just don't want a non-finished work seeing the light of critiques... it is rare that we get a glimpse into the whole process. What is real cool is that he posts different pieces at different stages of completion, and so you are never really zoomed in on one particular piece of his. You are seeing many different steps of creation for multiple pieces at once.... a great idea. His latest series happens to take on one of my favorite character groups, the Star Wars universe. Boba, Chewie, Han, Leia, Luke and Vader... yup, the gang is all here. You can see plenty of Duenas work on his Deviant Art page, and you can see his constantly 'work in progress' pieces update constantly on his Sketchcraft Tumblr. You can also see the Star Wars pieces after the jump...

And here is an example of the Work In Progress style of Rob:

Check Out Some Pop Culture Characters Posing As Rosie the Riveter

Labor Day often is used as the signal that the summer has come to an end, and it is often looked upon as a great vacation weekend because almost everyone gets a day off from work on Monday. But most people forget that the holiday is a celebration of work in general, and all the jobs that people have occupied in the past. It is a general 'Thanks for all the hard work' celebration. Rosie the Riveter is a character that is often tied to women and their role in the work force, especially back during WW II. Rosie symbolized woman as being a strong and intricate part of keeping the American workforce up and running during a time of war when men were away fighting. In honor of Labor Day, IO9 posted a gallery of artistic creations depicting high profile female pop culture characters doing their best Rosie interpretations. You can click here to see all the pieces on IO9, and check out my faves after the jump...

Up Wars: The Golden Years by James Hance

Mashups come and go, but having that certain "wow" factor is what differentiates the great ones from the average. James Hance is certainly taking his artwork towards the great side of the aisle. Today's mash-up features a much older Han Solo & Princess Leia getting the ole Pixar 'Up' makeover. It is heartfelt and moving, and honestly perfectly thought out. A Star Wars Medley

Here is a few various Star Wars tidbits I found while perusing the internet over the past few days. With yesterday being Star Wars Day and with the 2011 Brooklyn Star Wars Marathon on the horizon (July 3rd @ The Wicked Monk) I thought it would be imperative to share them with you guys. Hope you enjoy.

First up, we got a awesome fan video of Corey Vidal (accapella singer extraordinaire) singing a tribute to John Williams. This isn't for the average person, but will warm the heart of any true Star Wars fan.

Next up, here is a deleted... er,um, an ADDED scene from Star Wars by artist Kerry Callen. Very fitting with the original tone of Episode IV, no?

And finally, here is another clip... this one features Chewbacca and his hatred of shoveling snow. You guessed it, Chewy is not the happiest camper.

Behind The Scenes Of Star Wars...

Thanks to our contributor and CCD resident attorney Joe Esq, we get some behind the scenes shots from the Star Wars orginal trilogy. From the looks of some of these photos, it wasn't all kessel runs and force chokes going on in that galaxy far, far away. Here is a look at our favorites, with captions provided by yours truly. Click here to see the ones that weren't CCD worthy. They are all cool, but these were the ones we like the best:

Beach balls are much better than Hutt balls...

I'm gonna wax that Space Pirate ass...

She Ain't My Sister....

As my man Joe Quinn would say: "That dude is wearing a Capital V neck shirt son!!!"

Which one is the sister again???

The Hutt's love their slave sluts with a tan son!!!

"You guys find anything?" "Nah man, we ain't found shit!!!"

Put the Chewy mask back on Pete... it's an improvement!!!
"Alright, which one of you rebel dicks stole my chest armor???"
After a long day on set, I just want to "UN-WIND"... get it?

So, which ones do you like the best? Tell us in the comment section below... and dont be shy, make up some of your own captions as well!!!
