The CCD Podcast: Episode #26 - The "Halloween" Movie Retrospective - Part 1 or "Death? You Don't Know What DEATH Is!!!!"

If we are going to talk any movies here at the CCD Podcast during the month of October we are going to have address the Halloween franchise. Considering the fact that co-founder of the podcast Jedi Rob is absolutely OBSESSED with the franchise, it is not a surprise that he has chosen the epic horror for one of our patented CCD Podcast Retrospectives!!! Jedi Rob grabbed our old buddy Steven Graves and good friend and old time contributor to the CCD Blog Kristen "KMG" Grillo to break down all of the movies, sequels, prequels, tv edits, remakes, outtakes, and anything else that makes up John Carpenter's signature franchise. This first installment of the Halloween Retrospective sees the gang take on Halloween I & II, both involving our good buddy Michael Myers... and they also delve into Hallloween III: Season of the Witch, a highly misunderstood movie that suffered from the lack of big bad Myers inclusion in the film. All in all, a great first start to the Halloween Retrospective. It is the time of year that we dreaded as kids... it is time to head back to school! Kids everywhere are headed back to the classroom, and they are not very happy about it. Hollywood has never been shy on shining the light on the educational system and those involved in it on any level, so we here at the CCD Podcast decided to take a trip down memory lane reminiscing about the best 'Back to School' movies ever. Jedi Rob is joined in The Nerd Cave by Mike D & the lovely Alicia Gomes, and we go through the classics: Billy Madison, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club, Clueless, and many many more. The CCD Podcast: Episode #17 - The Best "Expendable" Movie Ever or 'More On Board... Moron Board.... Yeah, I Like That'

Whether you like the movies or not, the Expendable movie franchise is flourishing and has made a bunch of duckets over the past few years. Sly Stallone came up with the idea of a team of commandos who would be made up of past action stars that are now out of the spotlight. Even though that was what was teased, the first film finds us seeing old guys like Sly, Dolph Lundgren, and Arnold with newer action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li and Terry Crews. It ended up being a lot of fun, and made lots of money... so in Expendables 2 they brought in lots of other 80s/90s former action stars like Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, Jean Claude Van Damme and many more to make the sequel even bigger. And now we are on the dawn of The Expendables 3.... and we are getting even more former action stars!!! Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, and Harrison Ford are joining the already expansive cast, and I am sure it will be quite fun. So in honor of the franchise and all it has accomplished Jedi Rob, Mike D and Jeff Bond take a look back at the former movies that these guys have been in where they were kicking major ass. We are running down some of the classics of action cinema, and it is fun looking back at all the goofy shit these guys have done. As an added bonus I have added some Expendables themed art after the jump to help set the mood. Teenage Mutant Ninja X-Men by M7781

I came across artists m7781 (Marco D'Alfonso) over on Reddit due to his awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-men mashup that is making the rounds on the Internet. When I moseyed on over to his Deviant Art page I found an incredible collection of art mashups of pop culture characters that will make your head spin. There are a bunch of good ones, but I still find myself rotating back to the TMNT/X-Men one the most. What a great piece. Leo as Cyclops (the leader), Donatello as Beast (the scientist), Mikey as Iceman (the funny guy) and Raphael as Wolverine (the maniac). We also get April as Jubilee (they did rock the same colors!), Casey Jones as Cable, and my personal favorite side character Metalhead as Colossus. Pretty amazing. Lets hope m7781 decides to do a Brotherhood of Evil Mutants/Footclan mashup.... Shredder as Magneto? Kang as The Blob? Rocksteady & Bebop as Pyro & Avalanche? Yup... that would be great! 800 Pound Productions Presents: Generation 1 JoeFormers!!!

I was alerted to the excellent art work going on over at 800 Pound Productions Deviant Art page by my good buddy Tommy Lombardozzi. He follows them in Instagram, and they began to post pictures of one of their projects that appeals to my 80s baby sensibilities. The gang are mashing up Generation 1 Transformers and GI Joes.... creating JoeFormers!!! What a great idea... take Transformer characters and re-design them to resemble Joe figures from the 80s. These designs are amazing, even if there are only three so far (Optimus, Soundwave and Grimlock!). They even took it one step further and collaborated with Air Max Animated toy customs to create ACTUAL figures of these concepts, both of which look PHENOMENAL!  You can see these awesome creations in this gallery or by clicking here to go to their Deviant Art page. Guardians of a Galaxy Far, Far Away by The Bloody Samoan

Mash ups make the Internet go round. And one that seems to be getting the most spins right now is the Guardians of the Galaxy/Star Wars variety. We have seen posters, trailer mash ups, and pictures of these two properties mixed up. But this one from a Deviant Artist called The Bloody Samoan has to be one of my faves. He takes the 5 Guardians and pits them with their most obvious Star Wars counterparts. Star Lord & Darth Vader? Gamorra & Leia? CHEWBACCA & DRAX!!! Rocket & Wicket is the most obvious, and also one of the best. But I thought it was real creative to go Groot & R2-D2 considering the non verbalness of both characters and using R2s body as a flower pot. Very cool mash up... this guy has a ton of other cool pieces over on his page (click here to see). Enjoy it after the jump....

Marvel Characters and Their DC Countreparts Get The Team-Up Treatment From Darren Rawlings

Everyone knows that although they are two completely different companies that are highly successful in the comic industry, Marvel and DC share a lot of similarities. It may be the fact that a lot of the creative talents through the years have bounced between both companies. It may also be due to the fact that when the lion share of the characters were conceived back in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s there was not Internet for people to call out creators for being copycats... imagine if you tried to put out a comic today featuring a band of survivors of a zombie attack lead by a rural sheriff? You would be crucified as a Walking Dead thief, and your comic would never get off the ground. But it was a-ok for Marvel to launch Dedapool in 1991 even though Deathstroke was around since 1980? I mean, forget their powers... even their real names are copies! Wade Wilson isn't a direct copy of Slade Wilson? What... huh???? Anyway, artist Darren Rawlings decided to highlight some of these comparable characters in his Little Friends series. Some are obvious (like Deadpool and Deathstroke above), but others require a bit of background knowledge of the characters to see the comparison. Either way, the characters are all cool and you gotta love the way they all co-exist in our little comic book nerd world! Bill Murray x Modok by David Branstetter

David Branstetter is just like any other independent graphic artist that wants to break into the comic world. Check that... most guys that are trying to break into comics want to be down with the kings: Marvel, DC, Image, etc. But from reading Branstetter's blog it is apparent that this isn't his goal at all... he wants to get his own work, Straw Man, and other original ideas out there for people to see. His Straw Man strip is pretty great, and you can see much more of it by clicking here. He is also contributing to Comic Book Resources 'The Line Is Drawn' weekly art round up, which always produces some great stuff. But when I came across his Deviant Art page (click here to see his stuff, its amazing!) I found this killer mash up piece that tickled me inside, because it is completely off kilter yet works so well after it was executed. What do you get when you mix floating head super villain Modok with the one and only film legend Bill Murray? Check after the jump to see for yourself....

Photographer Jarod Kearney Brings The NES Family To Life...

We often preview a lot of really cool projects here at CCD, before they get going. Sometimes I preview a project long before it gets started and I tend to forget to actually check out the project once it gets off the ground. This is the case with Mario Warfare, a web series that kicked off last year. I previewed the series on CCD last January and never got around to checking it out once they started posting. I came across a cool ass Cosplay photographer, Jarod Kearney, thanks to a Reddit thread sent via Joe Fletch. I decided I was going to highlight some of his work. He apparently photographed the team of heroes that are the main characters in Mario Warfare... and it all comes full circle! Pretty creepy how things work out, huh? Well, one year later the gang over at Beat Down Boogie are 6 episodes into their Mario Warfare series and they are getting better and better. And Kearney is putting up more and more stills that he shoots from filming days.
