The CCD Podcast: Episode #15 - The Best Space Operas Ever or You Talkin' About Some Damn Sharks Mother Up In Space? I Will Whip A Glaive At Your Head...

The eve of the release of Guardians of the Galaxy is upon us, so you know the CCD Podcast gang had to tackle the unique genre the film fits in... Space Operas!!! Guardians is very unique in the sense that it is a space set, buddy team up, comedic ensemble film that exists in a very small group of films. So we decided to talk about the films that were similar to this from the past: Think 'Krull', 'The Last Starfighter', 'Flight of the Navigator', 'Galaxy Quest', and the like. It is a fun filled trip down space movie memory lane... so why not join us and celebrate this seldom used genre on the verge of its biggest movie release yet? Enjoy some art and the podcast itself after the jump....

'As God Says'- Takashi Miike Takes On The Killer Kid Set...

Takashi Miike is a dude that always keeps me wanting more. He is your typical Asian director in a sense that his sensibilities are quite wacky and is willing to take you to the edge... and then a bit further. But he is even wackier than some of his contemporaries. Which says quite a lot, since most of the Asian horror guys have no limits. But if they have no limits, than Miike is the Endless... go to the end of every other persons disturbing ideas, and you are just a the beginning of his! So of course he is taking on a classic Japanese Manga comic by the name of 'As God Says' (Kamisama no lu Tori). While people will immediately begin to search for comparisons to books/films like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, it is actually quite a bit different. How would you react if you were a teen, and when you arrived at high school you were forced to compete in a bunch of kiddie type games (like Red Light, Green Light and Mother May I) that resulted in traumatic injuries and death if you lost. Holy Shit. Wow. People getting heads chopped off, losing limbs... and all because of not hop scotching fast enough or not finding an open spot in Duck Duck Goose. Amazing. I will watch anything Miike makes, but this one really has me psyched. Check out the short teaser trailer after the jump...

The Hateful Eight: Quentin Tarantino Takes On The Prairie, Stage Coaches, And The Old West...

QT is probably one of my favorite living directors, and his last few efforts (Inglorious Bastards and Django) have done nothing but make those sentiments stronger. In a world where directors are pumping out products, directing TV pilots, and executive producing pretty much everything in the world... Tarantino does a great job of doing what he does best: developing a unique concept, writing a script filled with killer dialouge and putting together one hell of a visual picture. Quentin got a bit mad when a script for his Wagon Train old west adventure picture The Hateful Eight got leaked on line and he abandoned the picture. He said he wasn't going to make it... but just six months or so later the project has gotten new life and it seems like QT is all set for a early 2015 shoot with a Christmas 2015 release (just in time for Oscar consideration BTW). The synopsis is insane, and the first poster looks fabulous. And this cast.. are you kidding me? Bruce Dern, Walter Goggins, Sam Jackson, Mike Madsen, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell... wow. As usual, no real big name women named so far. Just Amber Tambelyn. But knowing QT he will get a career making performance out of her before he makes her a star like he did Uma, Diane Kruger and Kerri Washington before. Check out the official synopsis and full poster after the jump....

The synopsis:

The Hateful Eight follows the steadily ratcheting tension that develops after a blizzard diverts a stagecoach from its route, and traps a pitiless and mistrustful group which includes a competing pair of bounty hunters, a renegade Confederate soldier, and a female prisoner in a saloon in the middle of nowhere.

Could This Have Been/ Be The Deadpool - Ryan Reynolds Movie We Missed Out On?

Man oh man, If it is than we have gotten the hose. If Ryan Reynolds is anything, it is dedicated. Even after being turned into the biggest joke of a character in Wolverine: Origins anyone in the history of comic book movies has had to endure, he is willing to don the Deadpool mask in a full on feature. Why? I have no idea... after the way the character was treated I wouldn't trust them. But anytime he is asked about the possibility of the movie he mentions he would love to do it. I find this weird, but I always thought he was perfect for the Merc With A Mouth. Now immediately following Comic Con we get some conveniently "leaked" test footage of what could have been capable with Reynolds under the red hood... and you know, with a mouth to wise crack away would be cool too. All in all, great stuff. Even Rob Liefeld himself co-signed the authenticity of the video. In his Tweet rampage yesterday Liefeld said that Reynolds shot the whole scene mo-cap and then had the suit layered over it in post. So it is actually real. Check it out after the jump.... we can all dream, right?

Thanks to the Replica Prop Forum on FB for the video.

You See... Michael Bay Isn't So Bad, He Is A Perfectionist !!!

You gotta love The Onion. Those guys know how to exploit a situation. When the 2014 SD Comic Con rolled around people from every news outlet, both reputable and unreasonable, flocked to Cali to cover it. But while all of these people were trying to gets scoops, attend panels, and  be the first ones with some sort of "news"... The Onion just does what it does best: Make shit up that sounds good enough to fool people to be true!!! First they leaked a great story about a new "Green Goblin" that would be left handed... and people all thought it was true. Then they outdid even themselves... they created this amazing behind the scenes documentary that captures the in depth nature that Michael Bay goes to in ensuring that everything is factually correct in any films he is associated with. Everything... down to the turtle cocks in his newly produced TMNT film!!!! Hol-y SHIT, this is amazing!!! And they even had to CGI the fake dongs in order for the footage for the faux behind the scenes feature... which means the footage is in fact REAL (if you follow my logic anyway...). Yup, this is great. The Onion, never stop being the best at what you do....

'Manimal': Has There Ever Been A Film More Perfect For An Actor/Director/Production Team?

Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay have had great success throughout their careers together. 'Step Brothers', 'Talledega Nights', 'AnchorMan' 1 & 2... these guys make magic when they work together. But like any successful guys in Hollywood, once they get a few hits under their belts, they have formed their own company (Gary Sanchez Productions) to create their own projects from the ground up. The first project of the Gary Sanchez's company is going to be 'Manimal'. Yes, 'Manimal'! The cheesy 80's TV show in which a guy who was raised 'in the mysterious wilds of Africa' has the powers to transform into animals to fight crime. Yup, I already want to see this movie. But when you add in the partnership they entered into with Sony Pictures Animation it gets even better. Yup, the movie will be a triple threat, sporting sequences of live action, animation and a combo of both ala Roger Rabbit. No exact word on who will be in the film or will be directing it, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the usual suspects turn up. I would love to see Farrell as Dr. Johnathan Chase... but I would equally enjoy Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell or John C Reilly or anyone else affiliated with past Ferrell projects in the role as well. Sony Animation has a pretty packed slate in the upcoming years ('Hotel Transylvania 2', full on animated Smurfs movie, a Popeye and Medusa flick as well) so it may be a few years before this comes out... I am guessing 2017-ish. But take one look at the clip from the show that is embedded after the jump and you will be anticipating it just as much as I am...

Best quote of the press release comes from Adam McKay:

"'Like Catcher in the Rye' or 'The Sound and The Fury', 'Manimal' has always been one of those elusive projects that every producer dreams about taking to the silver screen!"

Check out this intro clip from the original show:

And then there is this, our own Lock in his 1st starring role: (you have to watch the whole clip for the full effect) -

So The First Ant-Man Poster Is Here... Complete With Floating Heads And All!!!

So there has been a lot of talk about the Ant-Man movie project over the last few months, between the epic casting announcements a while back (Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Patrick Wilson) and the revolving list of directors (first Edgar Wright, then Adam McKay, and now finally Peyton Reed) attached to the film. But it is moving full speed ahead now, and is scheduled for a July 17th, 2015 release. With only a year of promotion ahead, and the 2014 SDCC about to kick off, we are sure to get a bunch of 'Ant-Man' information, footage, and news in the next few days. Shit, even Michael Douglas is set to appear at the Marvel panels this weekend, and Liberace don't have to do promos if he don't want to! But, the first news (and great news at that) has to be the beautiful first 'official' poster for the film. It features typical corniness like floating heads in the background and the like... but, it also has an amazing shot of Ant-Man in all his helmeted glory warping from mini to large as he flips in one classic shot. It also features a full suited Ant-Man atop a flying insect... yup, this is what we, or at least I, have been hoping for. It will be a key part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3, and alongside 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' next summer, we should get some great new characters to add to the mix we already have (Pym & Lang Ant-Men, Evangeline Lilly might be Wasp, Scarlett Witch, Quciksilver, Ultron, etc). Enjoy this first official piece of movie merch after the jump, and expect a lot more to come in the next few days....

'Thug Notes' - One Hoodlum's Take On Classic Literature Of the Past

Now I am as much of a Hip Hop head as one my age can be, and I was lucky enough to be a teen in the golden era of Hip Hop culture. I wear Jordans, and I still pretty much wear the same style of clothes that I have my whole life (Hoodie sweatshirts and jeans never really go out of style). So when I see an enterprising hood star take to the Internet to use his street styles to show that Hip Hop kids can get down with classic literature... well, I just have to give my props! Sparky Sweets, PhD. ( I swear that is his name, and I love him even more for it!) breaks down some of the classics you have grown up with. Classic Literature, Original Gangster (yup, that is the shows tagline!). Books like Lord of the Flies, Dune, The Count of Monte Cristo, and even To Kill A Mockingbird. My man Sparky breaks down the books with keen insights and intelligent observations, yet does so by busting out slang and hilarious hood analogies. They also feature animated vignettes to help convey the story. This is a great concept, and I would love to get my man Sparky Sweets on the CCD Podcast at some point. We shall see. For now, check out all their videos on the Thug Notes website and their Youtube page. You can also see the Dune and To Kill A Mockingbird one embedded after the jump... happy HOOD reading ya'll !!!!

The Andre The Giant Show: Episode #2 - Special Guest Pete Holmes

Andre is back on the set of his hugely (pun intended) successful talk show, and this time he is joined by former talk show host and stand up comedian Pete Holmes. Holmes reminisces about the life of a talk show host with Andre, discuss what loving with The Giant is all about, and even compare notes on what Andre's unique voice may be most useful for. All in all another great episode. You can tune in to future episodes by clicking here and subscribing. Also you can find Mike O'Gorman (the star of the show) over on Facebook. Go show him some love and tell 'em CCD sent you!!! Check out the video after the jump...

Dune Re-Created With Candy... Let The World Rejoice!

Candy Warehouse is a cool as group that re-creates live action scenes from movies & TV shows with candy in place of humans. The results are usually amazing, and this re-creation set of the Dune movie is no exception. The scene when Paul Atreides rides in on giant sand worm and tries to claim dominion over Arrakis and the spice that is so popular comes to life with candy montage. Frank Herbert himself would be proud. After just watching the 'Jadorosky's Dune' documentary, I for one think this version of events could be even crazier than his vision!!! I certainly would rather watch this over the David Lynch movie (it really doesn't hold up well). You can see more of these excellent scenes over at the Candy Warehouse's Flickr page. Check out this set of pics after the jump...

Mike Vazquez Has Some Dope SD Comic Con 2014 Exclusives Ready For The Show!!!

We are on the cusp of this years San Diego Comic Con, and show exclusives from everyone involved are starting to crop up all in our Feedly feed. One of the coolest ones so far mashes up what will probably be 2 of the biggest comic book movies of 2014: Days of Future Past & Guardians of the Galaxy. Artist Mike Vasquez abandons his typical Adventure Time inspired creations to create a variant cover/poster that features everyone's favorite Raccoon in the role of Wolverine and the rest of the Guardians supporting cast on the posters behind him. He means business, and this is a great interpretation of the classic cover of issue X-Men #141. The piece was a combined effort creation between Vasquez and LogicFun (an artist from France who colored the piece). Vasquez also has some dope stickers featuring Groot, Star Lord Gamorra and Rocket (yeah, no Drax... weird), and a bunch of team Adventure Time inspired prints (Friday is Nintendo characters, Saturday is Guardians, and Sunday is Spidey & the Sinister 6) that are limited and only available at Vasquez's table. He also has a cool 35 page sketch book available for purchase. As someone who has followed Vasquez's art for a while, you will be blown away by both the look of the pieces as well as the quality of the prints. You can see more of Vasquez's work over at his Etsy & Deviant Art pages, and check out pics of everything from SDCC after the jump....
