The CCD Podcast: Episode #73 - CCD vs The Evil Dead: A Retrospective Pt. 1 or "We Will Swallow Your Soul... If You Don't Subscribe & Listen"

Nightmare on Elm Street. Friday the 13th. Halloween. These are the usual suspects that we think of when we discuss "horror franchises". The big guns... the ones even non-horror fans know and love. But there is one other MAJOR franchise that everyone likes to talk up, and the one thing that makes it SO UNIQUE is that it is also the one that has movies appear on a ton of "Best Ever" lists. That would be the Sam Raimi controlled Evil Dead franchise. We certainly love it here at CCD, so Jedi Rob invited Mike D and Kristen "KMG" Grillo down to the nerd cave to discuss the highs and lows (not many of them, but there are a few) of the 3 original films... as well as the remake, video games, comic books, the musical and also the upcoming Ash vs The Evil Dead TV series. It is a hell of a good time, so check out the first part and get ready for Deadite Hunting Season (which begins on October 31st, 2015 at 9 pm on Starz).

CCD Links It Up Vol #16

It is about that time once again... time to check out what is going on around the Internet and see what others are sharing. This week we got some really interesting stuff to share, from cool ass art work to toy like furniture for your very own adult house. Also, as we lead up to the Oscars we get a glimpse at a history of what films each President has been proud to call their favorite. We also check in on my new musical obsession, The Alabama Shakes... and even more boobie action from the crew over at The Chive that are doing God's work. 1) My boy Sean Hartter has teamed up with my favorite horror blog Freddy In Space to create a cool ass poster for a toy that never existed, The Evil Dead Lincoln Log playset! I always love Hartter's insane thinking outside the box for his creative creations, and I hope this one will be offered at The Freddy In Space Society 6 shop (they got some great prints for sale there).

2) I have never been a huge fan of playing with Legos, but thanks to my good buddy Jeff Bond I have developed a certain affinity for the stackable toys. But one of the coolest crossover products I have seen in  a long time has to be the storage boxes that come from Room Copenhagen's Fab.com shop. These storage pieces are shaped like Lego bricks, stack accordingly, and happen to be cool as shit. If you are a fan of Legos, this is what you need to furnish your apartment with. All shapes and sizes available!   

3) With the Oscars on the horizon I have had movies on the brain. I came across a pretty cool article over at The Week that takes a look inside the minds of our Commander In Chief's and which movies were their favorites. A great read on the cusp of the pinnacle of the movie year...

4) I am absolutely obsessed with The Alabama Shakes. Their first album is fantastic, and I love everything about their first single 'Hold On'. I love the basic nature of the video, the fact that they highlight singer Brittany Howard despite the fact that she is not the traditional attractive looking front woman, and the fact that she sounds A LOT like Janis Joplin to me. Great video...




5) Time for your daily does of boobies, babes, and butts... head on over to The Chive and check out this fantastic list of one of the most underrated body parts on a woman, her back!!! Need proof that this list is worth the trip? Check out this for an example:

The 'Evil Dead' Remake Seems To Be The Most Ridiculously Violent Movie Ever Made... And I Can't Wait!!!!

I have been tracking the remake of Evil Dead for quite a while and have always found the prospect of it quite encouraging. It had one thing going for it that most of the horror remakes that have been coming out lack, and that is the involvement of key people from the first one. In this instance it's director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, who are both returning as overseers in the executive producer chairs. Raimi got a chance to make a bigger, badder movie with Evil Dead 2, which is essentially the same movie as Evil Dead 1 with a bigger budget and a few additional cast members. But both films have a certain slapstick quality to them, and that is what makes them so great. It is also what has made Bruce Campbell's career. And also made the film series one of my favorites of all time. So when they decided to go remake, it seems Raimi decided to just take the dark turn all the way to the bank. The demonic possession and invulnerability of the Deadites  is played up to a 10 in this version of the story, and the red band trailer is driving that point home more and more. God damn, that razor!!!! This movie looks more violent and creepy then ever before... and I have to say that I think it is exactly what it needed to remake a classic like this! Make it original, even if it is not an original premise. Check out the red band trailer after the jump and let me know what you guys think about this one. I think any real horror fan worth his weight in bath salts has to love this....

Three Mashup Posters by Justin Hillgrove

Justin Hillgrove is a very talented artist from Seattle, Washington. He runs a very cool blog entitled Imps & Monsters that helps to update all of the works that he & pal Mike Kapp put out. One of the coolest things they have on their site is three pieces that he has prepared for the upcoming April 2013 art show 'Icons & Influences' at LTD Gallery. The show will feature 30-40 paintings from Hillgrove & Kapp with some classic iconic pop culture characters, and judging from the first three pieces that have been released as a preview I definitely can't wait to see what this show has to offer. One of the pieces mashes up Charlie Brown with Evil Dead, and the other two feature killer Where The Wild Things Are characters. So wonderful.... The Red Band Trailer For The Evil Dead Remake Proves That Not All Remakes Have To Be Shitty By Default

The Evil Dead Trilogy is by far my favorite film franchise. Ever. I am not kidding... I rank it higher than Star Wars, Alien, or the Potter movies (fuck you guys, those 7 movies are awesome!). It's not that I think that the Evil Dead films are BETTER than those I just mentioned (or any other films for that matter), it is just that the trilogy is so awesome and holds a special place in my heart since I was a little guy. Sam Raimi has become a titan in the movie industry based on his work on these three films and Bruce Campbell has made a career based on his role as Ash... to me it is just unapproachable. So when news of a remake started circling a few years back, my dismay began instantly. It's not that I hate all horror remakes... that is not the case at all. I liked both The Hills Have Eyes remakes, Rob Zombies 1st Halloween, Last House on the Left, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake films, and I love the goofiness that is the 13 Ghosts remake (again, fuck you guys!). There are good ones out there. But most are pure shit. So the last thing I wanted was them to take liberties with my favorite films. But then it was revealed that Raimi & Campbell would be executive producing  the film (aka keeping motherfuckers in line), so they would have mucho input into the new film. At last weeks NY Comic Con we got a look at the first trailer, and now it looks insane in all it's official (not taped on a cell phone camera) red band glory! Looks like Raimi did a good job picking Fede Alavrez to head this one up. Check out the trailer for yourself after the jump...






Wow. Wow... Yup, its all there. The creepiness of the trailer. The translation of the text in the Necrinomicon.  The tree rape. And if that didn't do enough to convince you, check out this interview with Ash himself, Mr. Bruce Campbell.



He is all in... and gives some great reasons why you should be as well. The film opens April 12th, 2013 and I will be there. Will you?

Custom Action Figures Courtesy Of Popsfartberger

I was over at my boy Johnny's awesome horror site Freddy In Space when I came across some unreal custom action figures that he discovered on Ebay. The name of the seller is Popsfartberger... and to be honest I don't know what is cooler, the fact that his custom action figures are unreal or that his only name listed is Popsfartberger!!! Anywho, the actual custom figures are insane and feature some of the dopest movie characters of all time. Even though they can be kind of expensive (they average around 49.00 bucks) when you take into consideration that you are getting a custom 3 3/4 inch action figure as well as a spectacularly designed front and back backing card.... well, the money/cost starts to make a ton of sense. he has a ton of figures on his Ebay page (click here to see his wares) and they feature a Buy It Now price so you won't have to worry about haggling with other auction users. This is a great gift for any real fan of these films, so keep them in mind for future gift purchases. I featured the ones I liked the best personally after the jump...

Evil Dead: An Animated Tribute

The Evil Dead franchise is one of the most important sets of films in my cinematic life. The reasons are actually quite complex. The slapstick style of the horror presented by Sam Raimi in the three films made the horror genre much more accessible and easier to accept for me as a youngster. Also, it introduced me to the wonderful work of Sam Raimi, and would lead to the genius eventually making the Spider-Man trilogy. And finally it allowed me to fall in love with Ash, one of the greatest heroes ever portrayed by the one & only Bruce Campbell!!! Olly Moss (the one above) created an cool poster for Mondo back in 2010, and that poster helped inspire this unreal minute & a half animated clip from Daniel Kanemoto that commemorates all three films in the series. This one will take fans of the series back down memory lane!!! See the clip after the jump...

'The Gastronomicon: Blog Of The Fed' - The Best Food Geeky Blog On The Planet

I love to eat delicious food. I am someone who love to cook. And I love me some creativity, especially geek orientated creativity, when reading a blog/cookbook/recipe for my next culinary challenge. So when I came across 'The Gastronomicon: The Blog of the Fed' on the Internet, my mind was blown because all three of those qualifications were immediately met. The header photo of the blog is a pizza shaped like The Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon, from the Evil Dead movie series. They had me at hello... but then I found some great recipes on the blog for all types of cool, shit like Pad Thai, and a gingerbread helicopter. Pretty fucking cool.
