'Alien:Isolation' Proves The Adage In Space No One Can Hear You Scream !!!

I am not the huge gamer I used to be, but when a game comes out that hearkens back to my youth I can't help but pay attention. This is definitely the case with Alien: isolation, the latest Alien video game from Sega. Coming off the disappointment of Aliens: Space Marines a few years back (that game looked super cool coming out but actually sucked balls) the team has gone back to the drawing board in terms of coming up with a new format for the game to take it back to the franchises roots. The first movie of the franchise used isolation to build the terror of the xemomorph creatures and how they were picking off the crew. So when this game decides to have you play as Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter... well it all starts to fall into place. She is looking for answers as to what her mom went through, and in her search for answers she stumbled upon something way worse... something with a egg shaped head and a mouth within its mouth! The game hits October, 2014... but for now jump after the trailer and see the cool teaser put together for E3...

R.I.P. To H.R. Giger, A True Artistic Genius

H.R. Giger is a Swiss artist who created one of the greatest movie monsters of all time. His works and artistic ideals led to the creation of the Xenomorph, of Alien fame. But the way I came to know and love his work was a bit weirder than that. Giger designed the VIP room in Limelight, the famous NYC nightclub that was so dope during the early 90s. It is the first club I ever went to in my life... at the ripe old age of 14. I was taken by some older friends and spent the first hour in the club wandering around. The coolest part about Limelight had to be that it was a former church. The exterior remained exactly the same, and the interior retained many of the churches original designs (like the altar, which was the DJ booth). But there were a few separate rooms, in which different music was played then the main room. So as a wide eyed kid, I wandered into a VIP room and managed to weasel my way in. As I entered, I was blown away.... the whole rooms walls were decorated with the artistic styling of H.R. Giger! It was crazy in there... and one of the coolest nightclub scenes I have ever seen since. It was the coolest themed room in the whole joint, and in all the years that I would visit Limelight I always tried to pop in there just to catch a glimpse of his magnificent work. Giger has been in the limelight (pun intended.... see what I did there) once again do to the success of Prometheus (which feature some of his early Alien designs) and a new documentary entitled Jodorowsky's Dune, which tells the story of Alejandro Jodorowsky's failed attempt to make a Dune adaption into a movie. Giger was commissioned to bring Frank Herbert's world to life. Unfortunately that never happened... but now we will finally get to see the genius work Giger had planned for us. He died this week after complications from a fall that he endured. Rest in Piece, sir... and thanks for the art! You can see some pics of Giger's room at Limelight after the jump.....

There Is Alien Xenomorph Cosplay... AND THEN THERE IS ALIEN XENOMORPH COSPLAY !!!

I am as much of a fan of cosplay as any other, but there is good cosplay and than there is GREAT COSPLAY. This is an example of great cosplay, and it comes from a source that is extremely close to home for me. Peter Kokis is a performer and builder of fantastic robotic suits of some of your favorite pop culture characters. Think Optimus Prime, The Terminator, the Jaegers from Pacific Rim, etc. And he is based out of Brooklyn, NY... my stomping grounds! His Alien Xenomorph costume may be the very best one yet... and it is super CREEPY! Peter decided to go with the more "warrior" like look of the Alien Xenomorph from Aliens (Alien 2 for you people failing to see the s at the end!) This costume is one of epic proportions, and I can't even begin to get into the specifics of the construct (you can click here for the specs on that particular build). It is the first construct that Peter has made that is not a robot, and shows that he has range as a costume construction expert. And the coolest part: All of Peter's creations can be rented at an hourly rate for performances and appearances. How great is that? The costume took over 400 hours to construct, so giving my dude props here on CCD is the least I can do to show love the Brooklyn way! Hit him up by clicking here and finding his contact info at the bottom of the page. He has more projects in the works (Ultron, new Transformers and astronaut, etc) so check out the Brooklyn Robotworks homepage frequently for updates. You can see cool pics of the Alien Xenomorph in action after the jump...

Predator vision... nice!

Lego's Abound - A Three-peat !!!

I have been getting so many Lego based stories into my inbox from my gang that I don't know what to do... so I decided to throw together a little 3 peat post. 3 different stories, all amazing in their own right. First up, we got an an Alien themed build. But this one is surprisingly simple and only requires a few pieces (only 20), which is rarely a featured property in Lego build posts. The second story comes from a more familiar place. How about a Hobbit/Lord of the Rings themed mega build that requires a bit of time... oh, and 200,000 pieces! And the final one is a crazy mosaic of one of my favorite characters in movie history... it kinda ties the room together, ya know? Check all three out after the jump..

The Alien Power Lifter Build, done with only 20 pieces:

Next up, an epic 200,000 pieces build of Rivendell from the world of J.R.R. Tolkien:

You can see more over at builder Alice Finch's Flickr page

And finally, here is the last piece. A Lego Mosaic of The Dude himself, The Big Lebowski! Done by Bricktascale, you can check out more of his pieces by clicking here.

Movie Characters Get The Manga Makeover Courtesy Of Matsuda Yuusuke

Manga is not exactly my cup of tea... I don't particularly enjoy the style of art that is often employed in Manga books. But I do like the looks of some of that stuff... especially when the characters that are being drawn are to familiar to me. Japanese artist Matsuda Yuusuke does a great job converting some of my most favorite classic movie characters into Manga versions of themselves, and it makes a world of difference in garnering my interest. Hellboy, Hellraiser, Predator, Robocop, Alien, & Terminator all get the makeover, and some of them are really cool (especially the Alien one). You can see more of his work on his webpage (the art is great, but all the text is in Japanese!) by clicking here. Check out the results after the jump....

Thanks to Griffin Hartter for sharing on Facebook...

Gadgets & Gizmos: An Art Show @ Bottleneck Galleries, Brooklyn

Bottleneck Galleries is one of the first galleries to be opened in NY that primarily focuses on pop culture themed art shows. The gang over there has an excellent eye for cool pieces, a ton of great ideas for show possibilities, and a work ethic that keeps the exhibits opening soon after one closes. Hot of the finale of the 'Alternate Endings' show comes 'Gizmos & Gadgets', an art show that focuses on the machines & technology of some of your favorite movies of all time. Ripley's front loader mech suit from Alien? Yup. Gob's Segeway from Arrested Development? Yup. Numerous Batman gadgets from his utility belt? Most definitely. Inspector Gadgets whole body, diagrammed X-Ray style? Oh yeah! These are just a few of the wacky and wild illustrations you will find in the collection for this show. The show opened  on January 18th and runs through February 3rd, so try to get yourself down there and buy one of these cool pieces of art. The prices for the last show were relatively affordable, so hopefully you can find something in your price range to bring home and support local artists at the same time! Check out their website by clicking here for more info on all that is going on at Bottleneck and click after the jump for a few preview piecs of what to expect in the show....

Artist Bradwick J McGinty III is a lot more than just a snazzy name. He is a very talented artist who is using his creative powers for good... and by good I mean creating really cool geek shit for us to enjoy. He has created these "Anatomy of..." prints of some of our favorite geek movie monsters in order to show you how these guys tick and what their weak points are. The coolest part? The directions are in Japanese!!!! You can order these plus much more over at BM's website by clicking here, and check out the "Anatomy of..." collection after the jump....
