New York Comic Con 2013 - Cool Ass Statues

One of the coolest things that any con has to offer are the ridiculous and highly detailed collectibles that are offered for sale. Nothing in this category is more impressive than the huge statues that more and more companies are producing. Whether they are busts, 1/2 bodies, or full figures... these statues are often enough to stop you in you tracks and make you do a double take at just how awesome they really are. Sesame Street Fighter by Gavacho 13

I have come across many mashups in my day, but when my boy Jeff Bond posted this on Facebook I just knew I had to share it with the CCD community. Deviant Artist Gavacho 13 (aka Matt Crane) decided to take every bodies favorite children's show, Sesame Street, and mashed it up with the characters of the greatest fighting video game franchise of all time, Street Fighter. Wreck It Ralph Is Breaking Out The Big Video Game Character Guns For 4 New Posters

Wreck It Ralph looks like a ton of fun. A Disney movie about video game characters who want to change their lot in life, but as always Disney can't just stop with a cool concept. They have licensed out a ton of actual video game characters from real life to lend some support to the newly fictional characters of the movie. Yup, that is M Bison & Dr. Eggman. Yup, That certainly is Q-Bert. And yup, Zangrief definitely has a lazy eye. Check out the four new posters after the jump and go see the movie Nov. 2nd....

CCD Links It Up - Vol #1

I surf the 'Net alot, but not every cool ass thing that I come across can be turned into a CCD post. So I am starting a post where I can include a few cool ass links that you may be interested in. 1) IO9 has a list of 10 comic characters that are cooler than Batman. I don't think that is possible to have a character that is cooler than Batman, but the list is good none the less. 

2) Sticking with the Batman theme, here is an insane infographic that chronicles over 70 years of The Batman and was posted over at Fanboy.

3) Check out the hotness that is model Sydney Barlette by checking out her modeling page here and her gallery over at Beer Mug Sports by clicking here.

4) Get in on the fun and organize a Tugg movie event in your area. Tugg is a service that allows you to pick from the movies they offer (over 600) and schedule a screening of the film at local theaters around the country. 5)  So apparently Jean Claude Van Damme is all about making sure that all of his roles are completely accurate to the original source material, because when he played Guile in the Street Fighter movie he was banging a then 22 year old Kylie Minogue (the pop singer played Cammie in the film). I don't know whats crazier, the fact that these facts are just getting aired now 20 years later or the fact that Minogue slept with The Muscles From Brussels after watching him butcher lines all day on that movie set

Family Time by Chris Murray

Pop culture artists face the challenge of trying to portray popular characters in new & interesting environments. That is what makes for a truly memorable piece. Chris Murray did just that with his entry into the I Am 8Bit Gallery's upcoming Street Fighter 25th anniversary art show. He chose two mainstays of the Street Fighter franchise, Chun Li & Guile, but portrayed them as proud parents watching their child rattle the joystick of a coin op game. Gotta love the originality of it all... Take A Peek Into The World Of 'Wreck It Ralph'

'Wreck It Ralph' is Disney's newest foray into the original animation market, and it looks pretty great. For those of you guys who have never heard of the movie, it revolves around a villain in a classic video game who has had enough of being the bad guy. So he leaves his familiar game world and goes on to try his hand at being good for a change... and he is voiced by John C Reilly!!! I am loving the fact that Disney licensed a bunch of classic game characters (watch the trailer and you will see some doozy cameos in there!!!) for the flick and it looks fun. Plus it is going to shine a light on the coin-op era of arcades, which was the late 70s/early 80s and some of the best years of my life!!! This one kicks off the 2012 Holiday season when it comes out on November 2nd. Enjoy the trailer after the jump.

  

This Sushi Restaurant Really Knows How To Attract The Geek Clientele....

Blue Ocean Sushi is located in St Louis, Missouri. It also might very well be the most geek friendly restaurant on the planet. Need proof? Check out what happened when they contracted artist Ben Brush, aka Benjamin L. Sawyer, to create an original Street Fighter mural.This must have took quite a while, so they use the time lapse technique to show you how the whole project comes together. Very f'n cool. Before I start in with my regular weekly picks, I'd like to mention that Threadlsess has still been running a 'Threadless Loves Pin-ups' challenge all week. Hot sluts in a 40's style pin-up homage. Here's a few of my favorites from that challenge this week....

First up, this cherubic 'Sailor Pin-up' really floats my boat! Oh......to be an octopus...but, just for a day.

The Bride of Frankenstein is pinning HERSELF up in this clever and very sexy 'Needles & Pins' design that make me wanna 'play doctor'....Frankenstein that is.

Zapper Gun?...check!....Power Glove?....check! ....and....if I squint just right, I think I can see some sexy cotton panties under this plumber groupie's dress in 'Pixel Pin-up'. Maybe she'll let me use my joystick ;)

Finally...our geeky gadget hero, 'Inspector Gadget' gets a seductive make-over. 'Wowsers', indeed! Go go gadget boner!

And this week, some of my favorite non-challenge tees were....

'Component Upgrade' has our favorite Oz woodsman getting a much-needed tin mech suit tune up. Now if we could just ratchet-up the Lion's courage a bit.

One might ask "Does Batman ever get a 'Superheroes Night Off' ?" I guess he just has to flip off the right people. Great!

This minimalist 'Chewie & Han' Star Wars design really sends me into hyperdrive. The Chewbacca, particularly is a thing of fuzzball beauty. Simple but, stupendous!

Get your mallet! Big Trouble in Little Japan' is Mario & Donkey Kong ....samurai style! 

'Get Your Ass To Mars' ..and if you do, be sure to grab me one of these totally recalled Quatto novelty, tourist tees.

'Akuma Matata'...it's a wonderful phrase. Unless, of course, you're on the receiving end of a flaming Hadouken from this little Lion King/Street Fighter mash-up.

Finally this week, my favorite quite possibly could be this feudal japan Star Wars re-envisionment 'Duel of Fates'. Two ancient Jedi having it out with each other in a field far far away in front of a Death starry sky. Makes me wanna see THIS film. "Luke san...I am your Chichioya."
