Check Out Some Pop Culture Characters Posing As Rosie the Riveter

Labor Day often is used as the signal that the summer has come to an end, and it is often looked upon as a great vacation weekend because almost everyone gets a day off from work on Monday. But most people forget that the holiday is a celebration of work in general, and all the jobs that people have occupied in the past. It is a general 'Thanks for all the hard work' celebration. Rosie the Riveter is a character that is often tied to women and their role in the work force, especially back during WW II. Rosie symbolized woman as being a strong and intricate part of keeping the American workforce up and running during a time of war when men were away fighting. In honor of Labor Day, IO9 posted a gallery of artistic creations depicting high profile female pop culture characters doing their best Rosie interpretations. Chun-Li Is Jealous... And She Isn't Gonna Take It Anymore!!!

I am a huge fan of watching people slip and fall, especially on video. I have been an ardent viewer of America's Funniest Home Video's since the 80s, and my son has followed in my footsteps... he loved the show since he was like 2 years old and used to call it "People Fall Down" instead of its real name. Truth is, if I fell I KNOW FOR A FACT that it would be funny to watch and people will laugh... so fuck it, I am going to laugh to. But this video featuring Chun-Li of Street Fighter fame is taking the "People Fall Down" concept to a whole new level. The creators, Parodie Pub of France, have taken the famous Street Fighter 2 chick and super imposed her into scenes in which people wipe out... and wipe out hard. They use her special moves (various kicks, punches, hadoukens and trips) to justify how these people bust their asses, and the final results are absolutely spectacular. This may be the funnest way to spend 2 and a half minutes of your day. Check it out after the jump...

Family Time by Chris Murray

Pop culture artists face the challenge of trying to portray popular characters in new & interesting environments. That is what makes for a truly memorable piece. Chris Murray did just that with his entry into the I Am 8Bit Gallery's upcoming Street Fighter 25th anniversary art show. He chose two mainstays of the Street Fighter franchise, Chun Li & Guile, but portrayed them as proud parents watching their child rattle the joystick of a coin op game. Gotta love the originality of it all... You can see more of the upcoming stuff from teh gallery by clicking here, more of Chad Murray's work here, and catch the Family Time piece as well as an early sketch of the product after the jump...
