Captain Harlock: Space Pirate Is On It's Way....

I was never much into anime as it was presented on television in the late seventies. I hated the way the characters looked and talked when translated into English. I hated the hair over one eye 'look' and the big eyes of all the characters. Nothing seemed to make much sense. I could barely stand G-Force which I should have loved but there is just something about that style of animation that I never connected with. This new CGI Captain Harlock Space Pirate looks pretty cool, however. I love all the skull and pirate motifs and the action looks solid. You can't ever go wrong with giant space battles. And I actually like the look of the title character. I am sure that Captain Harlock has plenty of ennui and action to keep me interested this time around.

CCD Links It Up - Vol #8

So many things to share with you guys today, and so little time... unless you are at work and are trying to pass the day without doing much. So here are some wacky & wild stories to get you through your Friday. The links are after the jump...



1) Check out these two Ukrainian broads who spend their lives physically altering their appearances to look like an Anime character & Barbie... while I find this preposterous and  can't believe those are real women in the pictures, I admit that I would probably bone both of them, albeit while watching over my shoulder for a random octopus tentacle looking for it's traditional Japanamation vaginal home....

2) The Simpsons have a running gag to start their show called "The Couch Gag" that has seen many inclinations over the years. The producers of the show have used this 5 seconds to give props & nods to all types of properties & various topics, but now it seems like they are out of ideas. So they need your help... and by clicking here you can submit your own idea for a "Couch Gag" that might be aired before thsi years season finale.

3) Now that James Gunn has been tapped to direct Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel, frequent collaborator Michael Rooker is making his case publicly for the role of Rocket Raccoon. With his upcoming return in the third season of The Walking Dead, his close relationship with Gunn, and all his voice work experience Rooker might just be the man for the job. 4) Terry Richardson must be Lucifer incarnate, because there is no other way to explain why celebrity women act so reckless around him. This time the pervy photog has released a set of photos that feature a topless Lady Gaga visiting Donatella Versace. Great nips... but why do these chicks want to get naked for this doof???

5) I know the late 70s/early 80s were filled with tons of celebrities using Coke, but this disturbing picture of Carrie Fisher from the set of Return of the Jedi blew my mind.... 

If You Never Watched Anime Before, The New Lupin the 3rd Feature Is A Good Place To Start...

Back in my college days of the early 200's I watched an awful lot of Cartoon Network. Dexter's Laboratory, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and many other animated titles filled the airways. But this era is mostly known for the anime comeback that was taking place on the network. Ghost In The Machine, Cowboy Bebop, Fist of the Northstar... all of these series were gaining new life and new fans across America. This is where I fell in love with Lupin the 3rd, the anime about the gentleman thief. Lupin comes from a long line of thieves, and he is so good he often tells his victims AHEAD of time he plans on robbing them. Lupin was the basis for the Night Fox character in Ocean's 12 & 13. Lupin and his gang of misfits travel the globe pulling heists and having fun. It is truly a great show. In April, Japanese network Toho announced a new 13 episode prequel series entitled Lupin the 3rd: The Woman Called Fujiko Mane which will flashback to the beginning of Lupin & his crew and their earliest jobs. The trailer doesn't have a whole lot of animation, but it is super retro and I love this series so I am posting it anyway. If you want a good time watching anime, dig up the older versions of Lupin. The Harry Potter Crew... Anime Style!!!

I am of the opinion that the Harry Potter movie series is the best overall collection of related movies in the history of cinema. Yup, its true. Only The Lord Of The Rings trilogy comes close. Why, you ask? Because each and every film in the series is fantastic and grows the franchise. Almost all other series have missteps along the way... but not HP. Due to it's overwhelming awesomeness, you are going to get some weird re-imaginings of the cast courtesy of fans all across the world. Case in point: Holy Taco gathered up 25 weird and wacky Harry Potter pieces. You can click here to see the full list of weirdness, but after the jump I included my faves... Um, It's Called An "Adaption"... WTF Is The Big Deal???

There has long been rumors of an American adaption to the famous Japanese anime (and one of my son Mikey & I's favorite cartoons ever!) 'Akira' forever. A few years back it started taking shape. First, Leonardo Di Caprio's production company Appian Way acquired the rights. Then The Hughes Brothers ('From Hell', 'The Book of Eli') became attached as directors. There have been many rumors on who would take on the lead roles of Kaneda & Tetsuo... everyone from Brad Pitt to Leo himself has seemed to be rumored at some point. Sure, this is a story about rebellious teenagers riding motorcycles and fighting rival gangs in Neo-Tokyo... but this is an "ADAPTION". Just for the record, doesn't that mean "BASED ON" & not "EXACT FUCKING REPLICA". WTF people?

The internet is rip roaring and so upset of this "White Washing" & "Corruption" of such a beloved story... yet why is everyone so upset? Isn't it supposed to be different? I don't want a shot for shot remake... how did that go for Gus Van Zandt's 'Psycho' adaption? Not fucking good... and thank goodness Vince Vaughn survived it in order to make 'The Wedding Crashers'. No, I don't want a shot for shot adaption. And I'm not mad that they are talking about a bunch of white actors for the parts...

According to the report, the major contenders for Tetsuo are Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, and James McAvoy, while Kaneda will most likely be played by Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake, or Joaquin Phoenix.

Guess what? This is an AMERICAN version of the anime. AMERICAN. Why can't we have white guys playing the part? The locale is being moved to NYC... so isn't it logical that their would be White Americans there? Now if the movie was going to be based in Japan... well then I would see the "Nerd's of the 'Net" point of view. But if it's in America.... WTF? How bout the fact that the above list has no Black or Spanish actors on it? Nobody is saying that shit, right? Better yet, what if they talked about Jaden Smith in the lead role... would anybody be complaining about a "Black Washing" of the part? I doubt it... because everyone out there is scared to say it. Or what about the fact that if they go with any of those 30+ years old actors that they would be making a totally different film... that is not "Aging the Film Up", that is "Completly Changing the Whole Fucking Storyline!".

Sooooo... What's the moral of this rant? Here it is... just shut the fuck up and let them make the movie. If it sucks, so be it. If it's great, then like it. But just shut the fuck up. Either that, or you come up with a movie idea. Don't just bitch to bitch. People love to break on 'Batman Forever' & 'Batman and Robin'... yet rarely do you ever hear people CREDITING these often bashed movies as being directly responsible for the rebooting of the character and Nolan's take on Batman. Instead of bashing Schumacher, praise the man. Without his errors... well, lets just say I like my Batman Bale-rific and based in reality, thank you very much. There will be plenty of time to bash the movie later... if they ever FUCKING MAKE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
