Ronda Rousey Remakes Road House

There is something that happens to a person when they become the 'flavor of the week'. No matter why they are getting attention, the offers for movie and TV projects just seem to flood in. All of those promises of riches are hard to resist and can lead to one's downfall when they are no longer 'hot' (I'm looking at YOU, Mr. T.) MMA darling Ronda Rousey is at that place in her hot career.

Ronda Rousey made her mark as the first female MMA fighter that you have actually heard of. Her fame comes from taking out her last opponent in only 14 seconds and from having a reputation as being a genuine badass who can walk the talk when it comes to fighting. I doubt few if any of us regular guys could last a full round with her in the ring. In fact, she would punish us extra hard for even daring to face her in the first place.

She is also an attractive girl so a role in a superhero movie was a no-brainer. This art has been circulating the webs for awhile now and there is no denying that she would make a fantastic Captain Marvel by looks alone. The woman in those art pieces is Carol Danvers. Someone powerful enough to battle armies in space. Captain Marvel is one of Marvel Comics' 'Cosmic' superheroes and therefor will be a central player in the whole Infinity War series of films that we are expecting in the future. This is the time to cast someone to play such an important part. The person has to both act and look the part.

Danvers possesses superhuman strength and durability, can fly at roughly six times the speed of sound, retains her Seventh Sense, and discharge explosive blasts of radiant energy, which she fires from her fingertips. She also demonstrates the ability to absorb other forms of energy, such as electricity, to further magnify her strength and energy projection, up to the force of an exploding nuclear weapon. When sufficiently augmented, she can withstand the pressure from a 92-ton weight, and strike with a similar level of force, although Hank Pym theorized that this likely was not her limit. Danvers cannot absorb magical energy without consequence, though she aided Dr. Stephen Strange in the defeat of the mystic menace Sir Warren Traveler. Carol Danvers is also an exceptional espionage agent, pilot, hand-to-hand combatant and marksman.

But can she act?

She can schmooze with the best of them and be playful when she needs to be. Personally I would love to see her host SNL. Could be a breakout move for her. She might be a naturally born comedienne.

She must have a sense of humor because I read this week that she is taking the role in a ROAD HOUSE remake where she would play the classic Patrick Swayze part as Dalton 'The Cooler'. The guy who takes to fighting when the patrons at some greasy bayou bar get out of hand. Rhonda would play that part even though she's a GIRL - see what they did there?

We all have seen this movie many times as it seems to play on an endless loop on Cable TV back in the 90s.

Now before you put down this idea lets give this one a second look.



We all remember ROAD HOUSE not only because it's a bad movie. We remember it because it's such a GREAT bad movie. It's one of those Hillbilly revenge fantasies that littered cable television at the dawn of the video age. Every hunky young star worth his salt who could still kick above his head made one. The story was always the same - loner with a past enters small town. Gets a job at bar. Meets cute bar maid who is single mom with cute kid. Town is being menaced by Evil Guy who runs rival bar. He has bikers for buddies and sends them after our hero who beats them down with skills he learned in his 'secret past'. Eventually our hero has to fight one last big guy before the Evil Guy is put down for good and the town in liberated.

ROAD HOUSE is by no means an Oscar winner, but for this storyline, it's just about as close as this kind of film could get to perfection. It's an audience film that is tremendously satisfying to watch, especially when all the assholes get what is coming to them. Swayze was at his charismatic best and we all forget how good an actor he really was. No stuntman for him either. He came to that picture ready to fight. I wonder how many babies born in 1990 were called Dalton?

Now you substitute a girl in the lead role and the story works just as well. Ronda is a returning war vet who gets a job at a nearby greasy bar as a waitress but after kicking the ass of someone who pinches her butt, she gets noticed by the owner who offers her job as his Cooler. Cue sound...and ACTION.

It's a no-brainer. It's an easy part to act and if she can handle the fight choreography this movie will make ten times the amount it would take to film it. Might even start a whole new genre of female kick ass films. Rousey can't lose by doing this one. Up her profile before she gets that Captain Marvel offer and Marvel locks her into the next decade.

Jon Marco's 'Rhianna' Music Video Is Pretty Amazing...

... Even if the song is absolutely shit. I don't really know much about Jon Marco the musician... the guy seems to have an OK voice but this song is not really my cup of tea. But he uses some green screen magic and fantastic editing to take a magnificent journey through the best movies of the late 70s and early 80s while chasing his fantasy girl. Really cool concept that is executed extremely well despite the fact that they probably had a non existent budget. I don't know about the lyrics, but the video will put a smile on the face of any fan of these great generation of movies. Check out the video after the jump...

80's Out by Serge Gay Jr

As a true 80's baby I can't help but love all the characters from the classic films of that decade. When you look back it is hard to believe that SO MANY great features were made in one 10 year period. While people make fun of the decade as one of opulence and decadence, bad hair and bad clothes, you can't possibly  belittle films like Batman, Robocop, Bettlejuice, Rocky, Beverly Hills Cop, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Karate Kid, Star Wars... etc, etc, etc! Artist Serge Gay Jr. decided to integrate all of these great characters into one piece of art that is just fantastic. It must have been hard narrowing down the field to 30. Sick! CCD Meets Cliff Chiang @ The 2012 NY Comic Con

While walking around the aisles of Artist Aisle, I started seeing lots of familiar works of art that I have featured on CCD over the years. I look at a lot of cool ass web pages (Super Punch, Cal's Canadian Cave of Cool, and Geeks Are Sexy are just a few) that feature dope fan art. But when I came across Cliff Chiang's table I had to stop and make a purchase. Chiang is responsible for the phenomenal six part mashup series that takes superheroes and mashes them up with hit 80s movies/albums. The Teen Titans with The Breakfast Club? The X-Men with Pretty In Pink? Storm with Janet Jackson? Yup, these were great. And here they were right in front of me!!! I had to jump on the set of six post cards for 10 bucks, and Chiang even signed a couple of the cards for nothing. I gifted the Breakfast Club one, signed, to my main man James West because he loves The Teen Titans so much. I kept the other 5, with the Pretty in Pink one signed by Chiang, to put in a nice frame. Chiang was a great guy and had lots of great art for sale, so make sure you head over to his site and check out all of his great stuff. 'The Movie Trailer For Miami Connection' Proves That Great Things Can Come Many years After They Are Made... Even 80's Rock n Roll Ninjas!!!!

I love it when a plan comes together... especially if it comes together 25 years after the inception of the idea. 'Miami Connection' is a shitty 1987 Kung Fu movie that combines ridiculous haircuts, terrible fight scenes, silly decapitations & dismemberment, and a synth rock back story that never saw much of the light of day. Then Jason Eisner, director of Hobo with a Shotgun, bought a copy of the film on Ebay for 50 bucks and decided to re-edit the film for Drafthouse Films. The result is a completely new movie that is about to be released at Fantastic Fest this year and may be coming to a indy theater near you. (Landmark Sunshine Cinemas in NYC on Nov 2nd & 3rd) Holy shit does this look nuts. Ghoulies by Monster Cola

I was just flipping through the billion cable channels I have (and still can't find anything to watch) when I stumbled upon the late 80's crapfest gem that is Ghoulies II. This film is a terrible sequel to a cheestastic film from the 80s that I absolutely love. In the first film, little demonic creatures are summoned from beyond to make things difficult for a young Mariska Hargitay. But the reason why any real "80's Baby" who spent time in a Mom & Pop video store knows the film is because of the box art that features one of said Ghoulies popping out of a toilet. The box art is iconic and I know anytime I hear a reference to the 1985 film or any of its terrible sequels (there were four... FOUR!!!) it is all I can think of. So i decided to hit the ole Deviant Art network of artists in search for a good recreation. It was the only thing I could do to stop myself from watching the horrible sequel that is on Encore as we speak. Look what I turned up from Monster Cola after the jump...

I Wish I Could Have Seen This Neverending Story Themed Art Show

Early last month the Georgia based  art collective known as Magic Is Science presented a art showcase that featured work inspired by The Neverending Story. The Neverending Story is one of the greatest movies of the 80s and still holds up so well... it's one of my all time faves. I wish I could see more of the art that was featured, but after the jump you will see a few of the pieces I was able to track down, including a Atreyu action figure and a Falcor stuffed sculpture that are fantastic. A major toy line was never created for The NeverEnding Story. Children from the 80s (and now) weren't allowed to recreate their favorite scenes from this awesome movie (Falcor flying, Bastian screaming "Moonchild", Artax drowning, etc...). What if there had been a toy line This custom card design is based on the original Kenner Star Wars line. The action figure is a repainted Tonto figure from Gabriel. The Gmork image is from the Chronicles of Narnia: Wer-Wolf figure.

Both of the above two paintings were from Sam Mitchell as well.
