We are currently living in the age of the Comic Book Movie... and we couldn't be HAPPIER! There are all types of comic book adaptions finding their way to the big screen and TVs across the globe. Some are GREAT, some not so much. But all are doing it up in honor of the 50+ years of comic lore that exists in those funny books. While some actors have played the roles of certain heroes in numerous films, no one truly embodies their character more then Hugh Jackman playing Logan. In the 10 "X-Films" that Fox has produced over the last 17 years, Jackman has appeared as Wolverine in NINE of them (Deadpool is an X-Film and Wolverine does not appear in it). 17 years he has been playing James Howlett... or Weapon X... or just Logan. With the release of the newest film in the X-Series Logan on screens now, we take a look into the final performance of Jackman in the role and explain the burning question: Why does Wolverine MATTER in this day and age? Jedi Rob is joined by Mike D and the lovely & talented Mrs Alicia Gomes in the CCD Nerdcave to chop it up about everything Wolvie.... what are you waiting for Bub? The CCD Podcast: Episode #1 - X-Men Film Retrospective Part 1

It's been a long time coming but, I am finally proud to present the first episode of The CCD Podcast. You can stream the show right from the player below, or subscribe via iTunes or RSS, via the links below, and not miss a single nerdy moment.

In anticipation of the new X-Men movie "Days of Future Past," the CCD team is taking a look back at all the previous entries in the series. We work our way in detail through each movie, with episode 1 focusing on the first three, X-Men, X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand. We also talk about the long road X-Men took getting to the big screen, false starts, missed opportunities, dodged bullets and fanboy dreams. The recent announcement of Channing Tatum being cast as Gambit in a future film is also touched on, as well as some general observations of the comic movie landscape, past and present, and the X-Men comics history.

 
Episode 2 will be along next week, where we'll look at the remaining films. The good, the bad....and the Origins.

Wolverine - The Musical !!!

Ya see... all that Broadway acting and those musical roles that Hugh Jackman has taken throughout the years is finally paying dividends. Wolverine is the character that Jackman will always be associated with, but his love for theater and music can finally be brought together with the superhero we all know and love. While promoting X-Men: Days of Future Past over on BBC Radio (on the Matt Edmonson show) Hugh busted down some original 'Wolvie' themed lyrics in a rendition of 'Who Am I' from his other theatrical smash Les Miserable. Can this marriage between the smash mouth world of superhero films and musicals bare any fruit? Maybe... maybe not. But this 2 minute clip certainly entertained me enough to garner my interest. Super Power Beat Down: Wolverine vs Predator... And A Added Bonus Feature Too!!!!

As usual I was watching something else on You Tube and this clip appeared and I just had to see what it was about. It's part of a series called 'Super Power Beat Down' that takes two characters and sees who would win a battle between the two. This is just the kind of arguments fans of the comics and movies have all the time. It was fun to see someone take the concept one step further and actually stage the battles with special effects and great sets and costumes. Check out more after the jump...



Now in this clash, of course Wolverine would beat the Predator. The healing factor alone is the game changer, not to mention Wolvie's Adamantium skeleton and claws. He's practically one of the Predators already.




That being said, I was impressed with this Wolverine vs Predator film. It's a great concept done very well. I haven't watched any of the other films in the series but I will and share them here. You gotta love these digital times we live in. It's pretty cool what people can do on a low budget these days. All you need is some enthusiasm and creativity and we are off to the races.

Oh and that amazing looking girl who hosts the whole thing is Marisha Ray. Wow.

Aside from being a spokesperson for all things geek, the beautiful Marisha also found time to be in a little Batgirl movie called 'Spoiled'. Again I am amazed at what people with a love for these characters can do with a some cosplay outfits and a digital video recorder.

Wolverine Evolution by Olivier Fritsch Gomez

Wolverine has seen many incarnations throughout the years since he first appeared in Incredible Hulk #181. It has been a long road since 1974, and James Howlett has certainly had a plethora of looks and costumes throughout the years. Artist Olivier Fritsch Gomez decided to make a run at documenting all the ways Wolvie has looked through the 35+ years he has appeared, and it took him 5 FULL PRINTS to do the job!!! You can catch all 5 of them after the jump... and you will be blown away at all the looks of Wolverine you have probably forgot! Remember Wolvie in a Tux????

Wolverine: A Film by Woody Allen

Parody has existed forever. It is the easiest understood comedy that exists (because people automatically related it to the original source material) but it could also be extremely hard to pull off. You gotta make sure that you don't go to obscure and that your material finds the mark. The dudes over at Official Comedy have got this down to a science. Check out there latest example of awesome parody: Wolverine - A Film by Woody Allen. In this short they re-imagine the Canadian hot head super hero as an eccentric Brooklynite dealing with his insecurities. The dialogue is insane... it's like we are watching Sleeper or Manhattan on superhero steroids. They even through in a Diane Keaton-esque Rogue to balance out the screen time in order to get a true Woody experience onto the screen. Well played... Check it out after the jump.

New CinemaCon Footage Of 'The Wolverine'

I think this will be one of the sweetest rides of the summer. Great story combined with the finest action adventure effects the movies can create these days. The location is fresh and makes Logan the outsider - the position that he is most comfortable fighting back from. I like that Yukio has a large part in this film as she did in the original mini-series - which is something else that you should check out before July 12th.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes... Yeah Buddy!!!

I have had the pleasure of playing many of the Lego games that have come out over the last few years (Lego Batman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc) since my son absolutely loves them. He has been on the bandwagon for years, and I gladly purchase their newest releases year after year (I bought him Lego DC Heroes for Christmas). But when I saw some of the footage from their next game, Marvel Super Heroes, I have reached the pinnacle of love I can have for the company. The Avengers, Wolverine, Deadpool, and many other characters seem to be in the game. I really like that they have chosen to use the movie versions of the Avengers (that is Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye right there son...) over some of the comic versions. The early footage looks great, and you can see it after the jump. I know I will be on line with my little buddy Mikey to purchase it as soon as possible. The game is due sometime in Fall of 2013, so keep your eyes peeled for the next great game from a great company...

A First Look At The Wolverine

The latest poster for this summer's Wolverine movie is out. I hope to see the trailer appear any day now. God bless the Internets. There was a time when you had to go to the big Christmas movies to see the trailers for the summer films. See the full size poster and much more after the jump...

This clip is NOT the trailer for the upcoming movie but was done as a proof of concept to show the studios. I like the ultra slow motion bloodletting. Those kind of effects were just one of the many things I enjoyed about the excellent DREDD, which took visual slaughter to a whole new level. And let's be honest, you don't go to a Wolverine movies to look at puppies.

We already know that the film's final showdown will be between Logan and the Silver Samurai which fills me with confidence that someone was at least aware of the excellent mini-series put out in the early 80s by Marvel. Chris Claermont wrote it and Frank Miller did the illustrations.

The story came from a time when Wolverine wasn't in every second comic book released. This was a whole unknown part of his story and it was fantastic to read. If the movie gives me even a tenth of the joy that 4 issue limited did, I will gladly forgive all the sins of the last Wolverine movie.

This series of pages (X-Men 270) is done by the great Paul Smith and is the ultimate version of the battle between these Samurai equals.

Evgeny Yakovlev Mashes Up Your Favorite Geek Properties

Evgeny Yakovlev is a talented artist out of Kazkahstan who has a very unique talent of pairing up two awesome geek properties in his fan art to make for some dope pieces. Some of them are a given (like Wolverine & Edward Scissorhands), but some are just special (like Captain America & Night At The Museum). These are great. Reebok & Marvel Team Up For Some Killer Super Shoes This Summer!!!

Reebok has taken a back seat to competitor Nike over the past 10 years when it comes to ruling the sneaker world, but sometime you have to look backward & be creative to move to the forefront. Reebok is doing just that, going into 'Classic' mode and re-releasing a ton of greatest hits including Allen Iverson & Shaq's first sneakers. But their killer upcoming collabo with Marvel Comics is sure to become a popular part of the companys resurgence this summer. There are 10 models, all of them coming on classic Reebok models. Some of the creme de la creme of Marvel are getting their own shoes in the collection, and they are very detail orientated. Cap, Spidey, Wolverine, Deadpool, Black Widow, Emma Frost, Gambit, Sabretooth, Venom & Red Skull are all getting editions, and they are so bad ass.
