A few month ago some of the CCD.NYC gang had the pleasure of attending the "Blade Blood Rave", and actual real life recreation of the infamous opening scene from the Wesley Snipes movie. It was as if you were transported right through the screen and into the movie... and this came courtesy of the BBQ Films crew!

This gang of pop culture/movie loving maniacs throw these type of awesome interactive events all the time, and they are getting wilder and wilder with each one. The Enchantment Under the Sea Dance from Back to the Future? Yup, they did it. Rex Manning Day from Empire Records? Mon Amour, Mi Amour... they did that too. And there latest is just as ambitious and amazing: They want you to attend and help STOP, Beetlejuice's Wedding to Lydia Deetz! Yup... It is going to be exactly what you think. We had two of the founding members of the BBQ Films crew, Gabriel Rhoads and Laura Lickus, come down to our turf (the CCD Nerd Cave) and sit down with Jedi Rob and Alicia Gomes to talk all about it... as well as many other topics related to the overall love of pop culture films we all love! BBQ Films & The Deets Family Need Your Help... Only You Can Stop The Wedding of Beetleguese & Lydia!

Anyone worth their weight in sandworms knows the Tim Burton classic film Beetlejuice back and forth... it is a classic 80s film that hardly anyone can find a negative word to say about. So when BBQ Films was looking for a film to be the next subject of one of their wildly interactive film screenings, it seemed like a no-brainer that this piece of celluloid perfection be the choice! After some brainstorming sessions over pizza and wine ( I was there... both were plentiful!) and careful planning, another exciting event is ready to go! These are the guys & gals who brought you the Back to the Future/Enchantment Under the Sea Dance, The Blade Blood Rave and American Psycho's own Patrick Bateman's 27th Bday Party... So what will it be this time? Well.... they desperately need your help to STOP the nuptials of a nasty denizen of netherworld and a confused Gothic teenager! Check out the details after the jump...

On Saturday March 19th and Sunday March 20th BBQ Films is inviting you (actually pleading with you!) to come on down to the House of Yes in Brooklyn, NY to stop the nuptials of Beetleguese & the lovely Lydia Deets. There will be a full on screening of the film, interactive actors and actresses bringing the film to life, and will be accompanied by all types of Beetlejuice themed shenanigans as only the crew of BBQ Films can bring! There will be an undead photo booth, a limited edition film poster, gourmet popcorn, and even a chance for members of the wedding party (the VIP ticket holders) to be married by the monstrous wedding officiant themselves!!! There will be awesome sets and scenery recreating all of the familiar images from Burton's awesomely visual film, and refreshments that will channel the best memories we have of the Ghost with the Most!

The CCD Podcast: Episode #32 - The Michael Keaton Retrospective or "I'm Batm... er, um, Beetleju.... er, um.... BIRDMAN!!!!"

There are a few actors that come along in a lifetime that just engulf you with their presence on the screen. For anyone in the 35-40 year old range right now, one of those guys has to be Michael Keaton. I mean, come on... this guy has played not ONE, but TWO INSANELY important roles to the youth of the 80s: Beetlejuice & Batman! Yup, that is two monster roles... yet they only scratch the surface of the work that Keaton has done. The Dream Team, Night Shift, Mr. Mom... Clean & Sober, My Life, Jackie Brown... the list goes on and on. So for us here at CCD he was the perfect subject for our first individual based retrospective. We talk all things Keaton, big roles and small, and bring it all full circle to his current role as the title character in Birdman. Fab Ciraolo has a very unique style to his art. It is batshit crazy... and that is what makes it so fantastic. Fab takes very familiar characters (some real life people, some fictional) and portrays them in a different light. A light that may not be what you expect. When I think Beetlejuice I think a black and white striped suit. He Man, bearskin draws and his chest straps jump into my head. Marilyn Monroe is always in a puffy dress in my head. Mother Teresa is always in a habit... But not in the world of Fab Ciraolo. here, Frankenstien is a part animal club kid. Marilyn & Mother Teresa are hipster chicks with tats. Beetlejuice channels his inner James Dean. He-Man is an avid golfer. These are so great. Mondo Movie Posters by We Buy Your Kids

Mondo always brings the funk on any posters they release... they won't put the Mondo name on it if it is not a killer poster. But whenever they bring in some fresh artists I always take notice. This week we are seeing 4 movie posters being released by We Buy Your Kids through Mondo and they are all spectacular. There has to be something said about the selection of the films as well. You have a classic 80s flick in Beetlejuice, a hit iconic horror movie in A Nightmare In Elm Street, a cult classic Italian horror film in Deep Red, and an Arnie barbarian movie in Conan... how eclectic is that? There are few movies that hold as special a place in my heart as Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. I loved this movie so much as a kid and watched it so many times that I had it memorized down to the line. Keaton's performance as the lovable title ghoul and a killer cast of solid actors that gave wonderful performances in the film led to a classic movie. So whenever I see a talented artist take on the property and kill it the way Anthony Petrie did in this piece, well... lets just say I have to feature it here on CCD on general principle. Cartoon Styled Movie Posters by Ive Bastrash

One of my favorite cartoons back in the day was the Beetlejuice cartoon. I loved it because it expanded the universe of the movie and gave us a cool look at some of the awesome characters that were put forth in the movie in a new cartoon style. Artist Ive Bastarsh has taken a cue from the idea of cartoonizing (I know that is not a word... so what?) some of your favorite movies & their characters and came up with a killer series of posters to take a look at what these films would look like if they were cartoons. Movie Posters by Bcapazo

Movie Posters today suck. The studios are not even putting any effort into promoting films with good posters that are commissioned solely to promote the film. There are a few poster companies that are doing their thing out there to correct this problem (Mondo!!!), but most of the cool posters that you see around the internet are made by independent artists acting on their own accord. One of the coolest batches I have seen in a bit come from the Tumblr of Bcapazo. He has some great classics mixed with some more contemporary hits, and boy does he have a ton.
