Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day # 5

All good things must come to an end... and as with most, it was fun while it lasted. Tommy Lombardozzi has been rocking the 2013 All Horror Week hard with his original drawings. We had The Bride of Frankenstein, Pennywise, Jason in the Burlap Sack, and the Silver Shamrock trio so far this week... and now for the piece de resistance:  Carrie!!!! Tommy really knocked this one out of the box, using color pencil, ink, marker, and spray paint on a brown paper bag. A great finish to a great week of original pieces. Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day #4

It's actually Halloween DAY!!! One of my favorite days of the year. And a perfect time to share Tommy Lombardozzi's fourth installment of Artin' It Up for All Horror Week. This time he check in with a cult classic, Halloween III; Season of the Witch. Tommy decided to honor the memory of the great, yet often maligned, horror film by creating an image featuring all three of the Silver Shamrock masks from the film. It's tagline was "The Night No One Comes Home!", and the film is epic to me despite the fact that Michael Myers does not appear in it. I loved the creepy ass plot, and the murderous masks and the plan to kill all the kids across the land. This piece was created color pencil, ink, marker and spray paint... and was created on a BROWN PAPER BAG! Very creative, and also a cool background color for such a creepy drawing. Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day # 3

Today's entry in Tommy Lombadozzi's 2013 All Horror Week collection takes us camping... specifically to Camp Crystal Lake. Jason Voorhees hasn't always rocked the hockey mask that everyone is so accustomed to envisioning him. In the original Friday the 13th the killer was Mrs. Voorhees, and Jason only appeared briefly at the end when he dragged the final girl into the water... and he had no mask on to cover his mongoloid face. In Part II Jason is the killer... but he rocks a burlap sack rather than the hockey mask that he would obtain in Part III. Tommy decided to capture that look with his latest piece, and he used marker, pen, ink, paint marker and colored pencil to make this one come to life. I love this piece, particularly the fact that he went with the Burlap sacked Jason. Check it out after the jump... and you can see TWO MORE pieces on Thursday & Friday of All Horror Week.

Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day #2

As All Horror Week rolls on, we check back in with our good buddy Tommy Lombardozzi and the awesome original art pieces he has done for the 2013 All Horror Week here on CCD. Today we get a creepy ass rendition of Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King's 'It'. Obviously this portrayal is influenced by the way the character was portrayed in the TV miniseries by Tim Curry. I have been discussing the merits of the now over 20 year old mini series with some friends and find that the view on 'It' can be polarizing. Some, like me, still feel the psychological effects that the movie had on me as a kid so long ago. Others dismiss the 20 year old series as dated and not very scary at all. One thing is certain: The book is freaky as fuck, and holds up as scary even after all these years! Tommy created his version of Pennywise in an 8 x 10 format with pen, marker and then finished with digital coloring. Another great piece in his 2013 All Horror Week Collection! Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day #1

Tommy Lombardozzi is a great artist that I have worked with here at CCD since the very beginning. He is also a really great friend of mine. But watching him grow as an artist and expanding his artistic abilities to new mediums has to be one of the coolest things about collaborating with him in general. Tommy has always created awesome new pieces for All Horror Week (check here, here and here for some examples), and this year is no exception. He has created 5 new pieces, one for each day. The first piece tackles on of Universal's original horror icons. No... not Drac, or Frankenstein, or the Wolfman. No Creature or Mummy... nope. TL is taking on the baddest bitch of the classic Universal Horror movie universe: The Bride of Frankenstein!!! This piece is 10 x 8 and is done Marker, pen and pencil. Another great one, and not the usual subject matter that is usually highlighted when we see art inspired by the Universal classics. In my piece, Dr. Samuel Loomis is haunted by the presence of the epitome of evil, Michael Myers... a boy who Loomis could not save. Anyway, you know the story, now enjoy the art!

Artin' It Up - 2012 All Horror Week Edition Vol #1 by Tommy Lomabardozzi

Hello, folks!

 

Halloween is once again upon us, and that means the annual ALL-HALLOWEEN WEEK over here on C.C.D.! Per tradition, I have created some all-new, EXCLUSIVE artwork for you ghouls and creeps out there to enjoy. Spooky shit for the spookiest time of year! There are six new pieces that will run every weekday from today till Halloween day, so make sure you come back every day for a bit of frightening fun, courtesy of me, just for you C.C.Degenerates!

 

Let's get started...

 

Today, the first piece is a homage to one of the greatest music videos ever made, Michael Jackson's THRILLER! Directed by John Landis, this ground breaking long-form music video (a short film, really) encompasses many of the staples of good Halloween fun; the macabre, the undead, an amazing werewolf, and a highly-choreographed dance sequnce!

 

I give you "THRILLER NIGHT"!

 

 

 

This is done in marker, spray paint, and crayon.

Artin' It Up: Loki Classic Edition by Tommy Lombardozzi

Hey folks! It's been a bit since I've shared anything here on C.C.D. I just haven't been as prolific, art-wise, as I once was. But, I'm back with a little step-by-step. Some folks are interested in the creative process. I did one of these once before with a Venom piece I created, and people seemed to dig it. Big Mike D. asked if I'd share a recent piece of mine, with a little breakdown of the process, so, here' goes.

First off, lemme preface this by saying that I have been doing a number of old-school-style comic book character pieces of late. I'm not sure why. They're fun. Maybe I'm getting in a comic headspace, gearing up for our appearance at this year's NYCC (woooha!) Whatever the case, that's what I've been doing a lot of. This is one of those pieces.

It's called

"LOKI CLASSIC"The size is 6.5"x9" (or so)
and it's done in marker & spray paint.

1) This is the first stage. In lieu of penciling, I opt to do the figure's layout in marker. It's risky to not pencil something out first, but that's part of the fun. I have been doing these types of pieces on comic book backing boards. Their laminated finish adds to the markers' streaky, sketchy look. It kind of reminds me of paint. It adds a level of uncertainty that I like.

2) Once I have the shapes laid out with the marker base, I use a paint marker to ink it. The idea is that this should look like a Golden Age (of comics) ink job; broad and bold.

3) In phase three, I use spray paint two ways; one is to get some stippling... an uncontrollable spray of dots and splashes. This is also part of that level of uncertainty that I mentioned earlier. Then I use a more controlled, light spray to add some tone, depth, and atmosphere.

Eventually, if I amass enough of these comic book backing board comic book character drawings, I'll have to find something to do with them. Frame them, sell them (hey, you can buy lotsa stuff at tommylombardozzi.com! Yeah, get in there!), we'll see.

Artin' It Up: The CCD Batman Drawing Contest Edition by Tommy Lombardozzi

Hello, everyone! Welcome to ARTIN' IT UP with Tommy Lombardozzi (that's me!) It's been awhile, but I'm stopping by to say hello and to share something fun with all you CCDers out there. On the Facebook, I proposed that my friends put up a drawing of Batman (or any of his rogues gallery) in anticipation of 'The Dark Knight Rises'. Well, I got a good response and a lot of fun pieces out of it!
