Artists from David Bailey to Yinka Shonibare have appropriated the iconic Star Wars headgear for a new exhibition coming soon to London’s Saatchi Gallery as part of STRARTA art fair. Art Wars, featuring a tantalising array of variously soup-canned, crocheted and jewel-encrusted helmets, will run from 9 to 13 October... 

This theme for an art show has been seen and done before, but these are just so goo we had to share. I am really digging the weird choices some of the artists made to incorporate the designs into the trooper helmets. Great work...

CCD Presents: Ray Arcadio Live From Artists Alley at the 2013 NY Comic Con

On the first day of set up for our booth we were quite early. Joe Fletch, Tommy and I arrived at the Javits and began setting up our booth. There were not that many artists setting up in Artists Alley, but there was one a few rows away that instantly caught our attention. Ray Arcadio had canvas art for sale, and his style jumped out at me because it reminded me of one of my favorite artists, Sam Keith. His faces were not exactly like Keith's drawings, but the mouths reminded me of The Maxx. That was enough to get me over to the table. Once I did, I started chatting up Ray and he was a really cool dude. His work was really fantastic, and once we began talking on camera it became apparent that I was speaking to one of the most down to earth artists at the con. CCD Presents: Artist Ali Solomon Live From Artists Alley at the 2013 NY Comic Con

There were over 300 artists who displayed and sold their work in Artists Alley at the 2013 NY Comic Con. They are all very talented and unique in their own way. But when I walked down the aisle that Ali Solomon's booth was occupying, I was stopped in my tracks. The work that he had displayed was absolutely awesome... it looked as if I was looking at a HDTV set tuned to the Cartoon Network. The colors are so vibrant and jump off the page. It was a style that is so unique, that there was nobody displaying art like that for sale. Ali was a really cool dude and was willing to chat with us live from his booth about his process and what goes into his art. Early this year we lost a good friend and a great artist in Sean Hartter. He was scheduled to attend NY Comic Con and do a table with us, so even though he is no longer with us we couldn't have imagined moving forward without the involvement of his wonderful work. Making that possible is his lovely wife Allison and son/heir apparent Griffin, who is a very talented artist in his own right. They have 11 x 17 prints of both Sean & Griff's work for sale, so try and come bye and pick up some of the good stuff...

The Elements of the Periodic Table: Cartoon Style by Kaycie D

School projects can be quite the pain in the ass, especially the further you get in your education. Once you reach college, final projects & thesis assignments can be meticulous and tedious. And to be perfectly honest with you, this shouldn't be the case. A project, especially one that revolves around your college major, should be appealing and fun for you to complete. So animator Kaycie D, a  Minnesota native, decided to come up with a cool way to attack her senior thesis project. She took the periodic table of elements and broke them down individually, and came up with an animated character and short blurb or backstory for each one based on the properties of said element. She turned to history, mythology, and even comic books to add some pizzazz to her pieces, and they are all funny and smart in their own way. Not to mention a very cool way to expose students to the periodic table. I wish these designs would have been around when I was a freshman in high school taking Earth Science! Very Cool News: Artist Kaws To Design A Balloon For This Years "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade"

Artist Kaws is an artistic phenom. He is a mainstay on the lips of people who love and worship the underground art scene. he has also crossed over into the mainstream, his images and figures becoming familiar to even casual fans of the art scene. He had a monster sized statue of his most famous piece, "Companion", on display at the Standard Hotel in NYC. And now the artist is about to hit the big time and become a name everyone will know: Kaws is designing a version of "Companion" to be featured as a balloon in this years Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!!! In the New York Times an article has paid out the plans for Kaws's ballon project. What is really cool about this is that Kaws is a native of New Jersey and grew up watching the parade. Now he will get to see one of his own creations up there in the air amongst mainstays like Mickey, Sponge and others. I for one and looking forward to it! This November is going to be KAWS-Tastic!!!

Check Out Salvador Dali's Take On 'Alice In Wonderland'

This one goes out to all you art geeks out there... yup, you get love here on CCD too! Salvador Dali is one of my favorite artists, and I think it has to be because he gave a fuck-all what anybody thought about his ongoing shenanigans and crazy lifestyle. Despite being a lunatic, his art pedigree is amazing. Anywho, apparently Dali was contracted  Random House Publishing back into 1969 to illustrate the Lewis Carroll classic "Alice In Wonderland". He responded by creating 12 visually stunning heliograuves (I guess thats an artsy-fartsy art world word for paintings... WTF do I know!) for each chapter in the book, as well as a front piece for the edition.
