Lorraine Warren, Ghost Hunter
I was taken aback with just how good 'The Conjuring' actually was. It was on my list of my most anticipated movies of 2013 and definitely earned that spot. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson brought real life paranormal investigators the Warrens to life on the big screen in a way that made you root for them the whole movie. What a great portrayal of two real people... even though the story is SUPPOSEDLY based on real events, there is no disputing the fact that the Warrens were real people and Farmiga/Wilson did them some justice. But watching the movie and reading up on it a bit made me wonder just what this supernatural super team was all about in real life. I plan on grabbing a few of their books and contemplated making a trip to their Connecticut home (where they created a supernatural museum of all the artifacts they have gathered). But what were these people actually like? Ed Warren passed away a few years back, but Leslie Warren is still ticking at 86 and was very active in developing the film. She also did a lot of press with director James Wan and I came across a clip that shows you just what the tough little lady is all about. It makes you want to see more of her... and it makes me appreciate Farmiga's portrayal of her that much more. If you like true haunted house/horror stories, 'The Conjuring' is for you. Check out the video after the jump to see what Leslie Warren is really all about in the flesh....
The Walking Dead Monopoly And RISK
What? No TOP HAT? I refuse to play unless I can be the magic hat. Carl's hat is okay, I guess but I will be the phone that Rick listened and talked into to but was never hooked up. Some very detailed pics of both games after the jump... so what are you waiting for???
My rules for The Walking Dead version of RISK are the same for regular RISK. I have NO FRIENDS when I play this game. I will lie to you. I will make deals with you that I have no intention of keeping. I will use you to do my dirty work. Then when you are at your weakest I will crush your armies, take your cards and forget you ever existed. You will cry. I don't care. And I will tell you all this BEFORE we start playing so if you start the game, be prepared to face the consequences of your foolish actions.
The Maxx Is Back!!!!
Sam Keith will always have a special place in my heart when it comes to comic book artists, no matter what he ever does in the future. My man Sam is responsible for the killer art that shaped the book 'Sandman' by Neil Gaiman, still to this day my all time favorite series. Although he was very early in his career and only was the lead artist for like 5 issues, Keith made a huge contribution to Gaiman's seminal series because he came up with Morpheus's signature look. He stepped away after a few issues and honed his craft, and in the great Image Comics movement of the early 90s he created one of the weirdest and wildest comics of all time.... 'The Maxx'! 'The Maxx' was different than everything else going on at Image. 'Spawn' was a true comic book comic... it felt like Spiderman or something classic. 'Savage Dragon' had all the elements of Batman., a great detective book. 'Wild C.A.T.S'. & 'Youngblood' were team books modeled after The Avengers & the X-Men. But 'The Maxx'... yeah, that was something different....
Read more after the jump...
Image was founded on the concept that each creator would own their character & comic and that the company would not control the copyright for the characters they published. It was also established that none of the other owner/creators at Image would ever interfere with the content of another creators book. So when they excepted Keith and his insane plan for 'The Maxx' book, they were taking one hell of a step... and what a ride it was! The story of Dave the Homeless Guy, aka The Maxx, and his trips to the "Outback" (his subconscious) where he became a superhero charged with protecting The Jungle Queen (who was really a social worked named Julie). The book was trippy as shit, bounced back in forth between the real and subconscious world, and would have made Hunter S Thompson sit down and say "What The Fuck Is Happening Here???". To put it lightly, the book was revolutionary and extremely important in the growth of the comic book industry...
The Maxx by my homie Sean Harrter... R.I.P. brother!!! |
IDW plans to reprint all 32 issues of 'The Maxx' with brand new covers painted by Keith as well as updated re-mastered interior art done by Keith. They will also release comprehensive hardcover over sized editions of the book for the first time ever... something Image never did with the character. I can't wait to see Keith's art given the over sized & re-mastered treatment. It is going to be beautiful! The deal with IDW also includes a three volume art book deal entitled 'The Worlds of Sam Keith', which will probably include tons of Maxx & the Outbacks inhabitants done up in Keith's signature style. If the books are successful, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a re-release of 'The Maxx' TV Show on Blu-Ray. That would be great... I would love to see the purple and gold mammoth beating the snot our of people in high def. But the new reprinted issues and hardcovers are certainly a good start.
How is that for cosplay |

Welcome Back CCD!!!!
Hey gang... whats up? July has been one crazy month in the world of Mike D. That is why things haven't been so popping over here on CCD. I have to be honest, it was a combination of a few different things. First and foremost, I was busy... mostly because I was getting married! Yup, Mrs. CCD has finally allowed me to become an honest man. So between the wedding on July 12th and the 10 day honeymoon adventure that followed, my July was a whirlwind but, leading up to the wedding I have to be honest... I lost the urge to blog. I wasn't interested in making any posts. I also haven't been reading any of my normal sites. I haven't logged into my Feedly account in weeks. And anyone that knows me knows that this is not like me... I was just drained. But after coming back from my honeymoon, I am a newly energized man. Maybe its my lovely wife, or maybe it was the time away... I am not really sure. But the next few months are looking bright for CCD, and boy am I excited. We are going to NY Comic Con this year... yup, big deal right? We have been covering it for years. But this year is gonna be special. We are getting a table to hawk the art of the dearly departed Sean Hartter as well as CCD alum Tommy Lombardozzi. Seanie was a pal, and this was to be our first collaboration together. Unfortunately, we lost him. But now we are forging forward, and we are happy to welcome Sean's son Griffin to NYC in order to bring his Dad's work to the world. It is gonna be huge for us. And this is the year when my man Tommy finally gets his art out there for everyone to see... and I can't wait cause his art is so fantastic. And today I sat down to my laptop and I WANTED to blog for the first time in quite a bit. The urge was back... thank goodness. Yup, the future is so bright for CCD we gonna need some shades... so keep coming back 'cause this year is the year we bring CCD to the world!!!!
Rocketeer Raccoon by Eric Meador
I love it when people tip me off on something awesome... and this time I am really grateful. Brother Joe Fletch forwarded me this pristine poster of Rocket Raccoon from Eric Meador, but it is the mash up concept of the poster that has me flipping out so tough. He took one of my favorite movie posters of all time, from The Rocketeer, and put ole Rocky in the place of Cliff Secord. Gotta love the results. I know my buddy Cal is gonna flip over this one! I hear that footage featuring Rocket from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is about to hit the net. This is a good way to start. Check the poster out after the jump...
Barn Bocock's Corporate Star Wars Logos
Barn Bocock has been rocking out some great designs for quite some time. The guy runs one of my favorite blogs, How To Carve Roast Unicorn, which features many cool things... among them Bocock's integrate designs. Some of my faves have to be his Star Wars designs. He incorporates Star Wars characters and modern corporate logos. These are a few of the best ones. Great way to re-start our world take over here at CCD. Check em out after the jump...
No Matter How You Dress Them, They All Come Out Looking Like Super Girls To Me
These are some spectacular examples of all that is right in the world. Back in the day, hot chicks would not even want to be associated with something as geeky as comic book culture. Now, everybody wants in... even the hotties. Need proof? Check out these scores of prime booty who decided to model some comic book based clothing in some... interesting ways! Very geeky, yet very hot... check em out after the jump!

Happy Birthday Jeffy!!!!
Today is a great day... I get to celebrate a birthday with one of my best buds! Those of you guys who read CCD know of Jeff Bond, one of the behind the scenes guys here at the website. He has been involved with CCD since the early days, when he started posting his awesome Lost recap blogs during Season 6. He then continued with his 'I'd Buy That As A T' T-shirt posts & his 'Like, Like?' art features. But what most people don't know is that Jeff works tirelessly behind the scenes, editing and helping to keep the website looking good as well as always being their whenever we have any extra curricular activities like our tireless coverage of NYC Comic Con. My man has been by my side since the beginning, so its only fitting that as we stand on the cusp of expanding the site that he is right there with me. Happy bday brother man... enjoy this picture of Rebo from the Cantina Band as a cake on your nerdy bday!!!! Party up kid....
Butcher Billy Gets His GIF On Using Your Favorite Video Game Characters
Butcher Billy is a very interesting artist to say the least. He has clear pop culture roots that find a way into all of his work, yet his love for classic art and non traditional displays make his mash-ups quite interesting to say the least. he doesn't think twice about using a Nintendo character and and artist like Lichtenstein to bring an art piece of his to life. His latest project is a GIF series featuring various classic 80s video game characters mashed up with some cool alternate pop culture movies & music. Schwarzenegger as Donkey Kong? Akira & Pac Man? Hipster Ghosts & Goblins? These are just fantastic. My boy Jeff dug these up, and given the fact that today is his birthday I thought it would be fitting to post them up. You can check them all out in their GIF anaimated glory after the jump and even see some instances of them being used as street art. You can also buy these awesome prints in a variety of mediums, such as T shirts or I Phone cases, by clicking here. Enjoy!!!
Do you get all the references? Post them in the comment section below. Here are some pictures of the art on the street...
Phil Postma Is Starting A Mad Monster Party & Your Invited!!!!!
Brother Postma is back with a further demonstration of his enormous talent and imagination. He has taken the classic Mad Monster Party characters and returned them to their monster movie roots. I have long championed his work because he needs to be working in Hollywood doing design work. There is no style of animation that he cannot take and make better.
