'You're Next' Movie Posters: Scary As Shit Animal Faced Killers

I have been waiting to get some promo materials from the upcoming horror film 'You're Next' because it looks fucking fantastic. It revolves around a family reunion that takes place at a country estate, and the group of family members who are gathered there are menaced by a set of killers looking to make the weekend a bloody mess. These bad ass murderers have creepy ass animal masks and plan on making easy work of the unsuspecting family... but may meet a challenge from some unlikely family members who aren't ready to just role over and die. The movie is a few years old but has been in distribution hell... and with it's recent screening at SXSW, it is gaining steam again. The trailer comes out tomorrow, but so far we got some cool character posters of the killers... and they are very menacing to say the least. the movie comes out August 23rd, and you should 'Like' the movies Facebook page by clicking here. I will post the trailer once it is out, and you can see the character posters after the jump...

'The Wolverine' Trailer: Samurai Swordplay & Action Galore!!!!

I have been waiting to see how The Wolverine would shake out mostly because I feel like Hugh Jackman deserves better. The guy became famous from playing Wolverine, but most actors who achieve the success that Jackman has would have usually moved on by now. They would have left the claws to someone else to fill. But Jackman loves playing Wolverine, and more importantly he wants to get it right. Wolverine: Origins had lots of problems: Too many characters, not enough action, and a terrible storyline. The Wolverine is Jackman's chance to get it right. If this one goes well, we might get to see more of Hugh in the role of Weapon X in the future. If it doesn't, this will probably be his last hurrah. I am hoping for the former, not the later. The trailer is her, and it looks awesome. Catch the trailer after the jump. Lets hope the movie holds up....

'Disney Princesses Spring Breakers' - Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo Bitches!!!!

I am super excited to get out and see Harmony Korrine's 'Spring Breakers', which features a bunch of young, nubile and sexy actresses who have done some work for The Disney Channel. But how can Disney capitalize on this concept for themselves? How about Disney Princesses Spring Breakers? Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White & Jasmine get it in... and instead of James Franco playing gangster rapper Alien, we get a blue skinned gangster genie!!! Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo bitches!!!! College Humor does it again, and I think this could be a better movie than the real Spring Breakers... check out the video after the jump!

Mike's Movie Poster Roundup - Part 1 - Horror Movie Sequels

One of the biggest parts of the movie going experience for me has always been the movies promotional posters. Usually it is the first piece of promotional material we ever get to see about a film, and it is the first place we begin to form an impression about what the film may develop into or actually be about. A good poster can actually inspire you to want to see a film you may have no interest in whatsoever, or may heighten your interest even more due to the images of the film finally being revealed. We post a ton of film related posters here at CCD, so I thought it would be kind of cool to go back and look at some of my favorites from a particular group or genres of films. Today we take on one of my all time favorite genres, horror movies... specifically horror movie sequels!!! Read more after the jump...

I love to collect movie posters and have recently been using them to decorate my house. It is so great to walk around my crib and see some of my favorite film memories up on the wall as decoration. No through the power of the Internet posters and frames are much easier to come by. Posters can be found almost anywhere, most notably AllPosters.com which has one of the hugest selections you will ever see. I also use WholesalePosterFrames.com for all my framing needs, because they offer many possibilities when it comes to frame selections, from fancy and expensive to cheap and efficient. I even have two of the posters from this list that is about to follow up in my house right now! Moving right along....

1) Friday the 13th Part 2 - 1981

The reason I decided to make this post was because I awoke early this morning to the opening scene of Friday the 13th Part 2... and I was instantly transported back into time to my mom and pop video shop on 110 st in Richmond Hill, NY. Home video rentals were driven by the horror genre, and teens renting horror movies made up a huge percentage of the films being rented. Store owners weren't stupid, so the began to highlight film posters for horror movies front and center. One of the creepiest posters I ever remember seeing had to be Friday the 13th Part 2. The silhouette of a menacing Jason's body (no picture of Jason's face in sight) carrying a bloody axe wigged me out, and always scared me more because I knew this was the first real incarnation of Jason (given that it was Mama Vorhees in Part 1). Everytime I walked into that store the poster creeped me out... and that is why it was of my all time favorites!

2) Evil Dead 2 - 1987

Is there a  more iconic horror movie sequel image than the Evil Dead 2 poster? Cause if there is, I certainly can't remember... What makes the Evil Dead 2 poster so fantastic has to be two things: 1) The simplistic nature of the design and 2) The fucked up fact that the skeleton has eyeballs! Come on, a bare skull with normal fucking eyeballs? That is so fucked up!!! What I find most ironic is that the skull creature never appears in Evil Dead 2 at all... despite the fact there are many other deadite monsters that could have made an appearance on the poster for Sam Raimi's masterpiece. Skeleton's would play an important part in one of my favorite scenes in Evil Dead 3 (Army of Darkness), but that is a whole different conversation for another day....

3) Halloween III: Season of the Witch - 1982

What can I say... I am a sucker for 80's horror, the cheesier the better! Halloween III is bad... epically bad in fact. It is the first (and only) film in the franchises long and storied history that deviates from Michael Myers being the main threat and instead focuses on the evil owner of a company that manufactures Halloween masks. Silver Shamrock's mask have a little something extra in them, and owner Cochran plans to use it to kill many children in the process. This one falls into the so bad its good categories, and I always loved the creepy witch mask image on the top of the poster as well as the images of the three unsuspecting children trick r' treating. So awesome...

4) Creepshow 2 - 1987

Once again, I have to turn to my youth for the next entry. Creepshow was fantastic, but Creepshow 2 improved every aspect of the original film and then some. They also came with the funk for the poster, playing up the movie theme from the first films poster by showing what Death himself would look like taking in a flick. I love the old school feel of the poster, and it brings back some great movie memories. Old Chief Woodn'head, The Raft, and The Hitch Hiker are three of my favorite horror stories ever. Great poster from a great movie...

5) Silence of the Lambs -1991

Technically Silence of the Lambs is a sequel, following up the very underrated Manhunter as the second time we meet the charming cannibal Hannibal Lecter. It features the very stoic looking Jodie Fosters pure visage being obscured by the colorful moth (a key plot point in the film). It is creepy as fuck, and also a great job of  using themes from the film to create a killer poster. I know Silence of the Lambs is often considered a thriller more than a horror movie, but in my mind any movie about serial killers and cannibals is a horror movie to me!

So there you go. Enjoy my picks, and get some movie posters of your own to decorate your crib. What better way to celebrate the films you love than to put them up on your own walls. See ya next time...

Catching Fire Cast Portraits From the Capitol

As an avid fan of the Hunger Games books and someone who liked the first movie well enough, I am super excited to see the sequel Catching Fire when it gets the big screen treatment this November. I love Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, and I think the second book has the most action and adventure of the three. i also think that the first book consists of a lot of set up, so the second one is non stop action in the arena. As the publicity for the second film starts to build, here are 5 shots of key cast members in their best clothing (or at least the best clothing a resident of Panem would wear) if they were visiting the Capitol. Great job highlighting all the interesting characters that are helping Katniss in their own way.  You can see the gallery of posters after the jump. Catching Fire hits theaters this November...

Nightbreed by Sean Hartter

I have posted about one of my favorite 90s horror movies, Nightbreed, a shit ton of times here on CCD. I mean alot... like here, here and here. So when I saw that my man Sean Hartter created a Japanese version of a Nightbreed poster, I flipped my shit. But what I think has to be the coolest part of the poster is that he managed to get a ton of the Midian monsters up in there as well as Dr. Dekker, who is probably the creepiest killer in the history of film that no one has heard of. Another excellent poster from Hartter... and now I gotta buy another one from him!!!! Can't wait to see this one on sale at our booth this October during NY Comic Con!!! Check out the poster after the jump...

We Are In The 2013 A to Z Challenge... And Our Theme Is Killer!!!

After taking last year off I have decided that CCD needs to get back into the A to Z blogger challenge. For those of you guys who don't know what the A to Z blogger challenge is, it is a gathering of bloggers (currently over 750+) that take the whole month of April to construct blog posts daily to the corresponding letters of the alphabet. A for the first day, B for the second day, etc.... and all of the posts are organized into a specific theme for your blog. I have decided that I will use my love of hot chicks and movies to formulate my theme. Basically every day of the blog I will chose a movie with a corresponding movie (for example A is for Armageddon) and then I will post pictures of the hottie from that film (of course, I mean Ben Affleck... er, um, I mean Liv Tyler!!!!!). The challenge begins on April 1st, so make sure you check in everyday to see which movie I picked and which hotties pics I post. The coolest part about the challenge is being exposed to new blogs, and I am looking forward to visiting them all (or as many as I can...). Our Canadian correspondent Cal is also doing the challenge, as well as brother Alex Cavanaugh from  and Jeremy from Retro-Zombie... and many more. You can click here to see all of the participating blogs, and check back because they will be adding many more up until the start date. Lets go!!!!!

The Empire Has It's Own Spin Machine

If I was still teaching history I would have pulled out this clip to show how facts can easily be twisted to support a particular agenda. Follow closely and you will be as confused as I was at the end. Maybe that Rebel Alliance are just a bunch of troublemakers (like the Emperor claims) who are starting to believe their own hype. Check out the video after the jump...

Adventure Times Mash-ups by Mike Vazquez

Being that I am catching up on my back episodes of Adventure Time (pretty much the best cartoon created in the last 10 years), I am obsessed with Jake, Finn and everybody else on the show. But when I saw them cast in some of my other favorite pop culture properties like The Walking Dead and Star Wars in the mashup art of Mike Vazquez, I knew I just had to post about it. You can grab each of them over at Vazquez's Etsy shop for about 20 bucks a pop, and you can see much more of Vazquez's other awesome art over at his blog. Check out the two Star Wars mash-ups and the Walking Dead one as well after the jump....

Now That Is One Bathroom Door I Don't Want To Be On Either Side Of...

Official Comedy is a Youtube channel that focuses on comedy sketches. One of their funnier bits is when they take two scenes from separate movies that are set in a similar locations and then mash them up. Take for example The Shining and Dumb & Dumber. Both feature memorable bathroom scenes, albeit under very different circumstances. Harry's diarrhea faces blend perfectly with the threatening persona of Jack Torrance... it turns out to be quite the interesting mash-up! Check it out after the jump....

Kick Ass 2 - Character Posters

One of the coolest parts of Mark Millar's classic comic series Kick Ass 2 has to be the names that he gave some of the newer (and even some of the older) characters. After the events of Kick Ass, other people begin to get the idea to start dressing up and fighting crime. So there are a shit-ton of new heroes that have some insane names, like Night Bitch and Doctor Gravity. The original bad guy, Red Mist, also returns with his own super team of villains named The Toxic Mega Cunts... and renames himself The Motherfucker. Crazy ass names for some crazy ass characters... and now they have some character posters to go along with them! This is easily becoming one of my most anticipated movies of the Summer 2013. Check out the posters after the jump...

Super Powers By Phil Postma 2

Here is another round of Super Powers drawings from the great Phil Postma. A great second batch to go with the ones we ran yesterday. Here is what Phil had to say about the series...

I came across some old drawing I did years ago and decided to clean them up a bit, then I started to draw more and it snowballed from there. These were always cool toys when I was a kid and I am sure alot of you had them also. - Phil Postma

Check out the 2nd set of pics after the jump....

March Madness Explained With Star Wars by Satire

For all of you Sci-Fi geeks who are also major league sports fans (there area few of us out there... double threats!!!) here is a very funny video from the comedy group Satire that uses the characters and events of Star Wars to explain how the NCAA March Madness Tournament actually plays out. But the best scene has to be the last 30 seconds... it is every guys dream! Watch the video after the jump...

Vintage VHS Box Art by Frank Browning For Freddy In Space

I have long extolled Freddy In Space as one of my favorite blogs on the 'Net, and by far one of the best horror blogs around. One reason is because my main man Johnny that runs the site is a gentleman and a scholar... lol. But the other reason is that Johnny embraces his role a s a little guy in a big industry, and he realizes that he can't compete with huge blogs for things like exclusive content and set visits. So he sets out to create some original content that is unique to his blog, and he does this by collaborating with very talented people. One of the people he is working with on some of these projects is Frank Browning. Browning is a very talented artists that creates magnificent retro style art with a very unique touch. So he was the perfect choice by Johnny to create VHS styled boxes for modern horror classics that obviously never have been released in VHS format. This is a really cool concept because one of the coolest aspects of renting videos was definitely browsing the boxes at your local mom & pop video store. I have chosen to watch countless movies through the years based on their VHS box art, so seeing some of my favorite modern horror movies getting the 80s retro box art treatment is fantastic. The thing I love about these has to be the various shots that are highlighted... it is not like modern DVD art that rely on one or two pictures, but rather 6-8 smaller photos that may not be of the most important elements from the movie. Take the Trick 'r Treat box for example, which chooses to highlight vampire Anna Paquin and some of the other lesser known characters on the cover and leaves main attraction Sam for a back of the box shot. I am eagerly awaiting round 2 of these, and Johnny has solicited requests in the comment section for movies we would want to see receive this treatment from Browning. Check out the first series after the jump, and get over to Freddy In Space and show Johnny & Browning some love....
