Is 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' The Start Of The Next Big YA Franchise???

I have been reading a lot of YA (young adult) fiction as of late, mostly because the stories are much edgier than the YA books of my youth and are extremely easy reading. I like when a book progresses nicely, and some of the last few things I have read fit this mold (Beautiful Creatures, Ender's Game, and Warm Bodies are some of my most recent conquests). But after the success of Harry Potter & Twilight on the film front, every book series is being looked at as a possible franchise starter. The Mortal Instruments is next in line to take a crack at this, with the first movie adaption coming out this August. With 5 books already published, one more on the way, and a three book prequel series already in stores (a three book sequel series will also becoming in the future that forwards the story 5 years) there is plenty of material to be adapted. But will City of Bones be able to sustain enough of its fans to make all of those into films? Sony Pictures is sure hoping so. With the film coming out in late August, we shall see. Check out the trailer after the jump...
