Shake Weight??? More Like The....

I was eating breakfast with Taaa and Mikey yesterday and was watching the E network. All of the sudden this info-mercial came on the screen. Now, so far this story seems pretty regular. But then the commercial picked up speed. I looked up at Taaa and saw her eyes bugging out of her head as she stared at the screen. I instantly whipped around to this:

Is this chick really jacking this weight off right into her mouth???? WTF!!! Thank god my son had his back to the TV, cause I almost died... I covered my mouth to not spit out my coffee. Taa and I watched the rest of this commercial hysterical laughing... all I could think about was sharing this with you guys. Here is the Youtube video of the whole commercial. Can not believe they filmed these ladies jacking this weight off... did they think nobody would notice this. My favorite part is when the lady is aiming the weights at her chest, looking like she cant wait for the weight to cover her in gym jizz... This is one product ad that should have been thought out a bit more... Enjoy!

SNL Throwback Of The Day Vol. 1 - 1/30/2010

I am a huge Saturday Night Live fan. One of my earliest memories was of my parents watching SNL every Saturday while we were tucked in our bedrooms, and sometimes being allowed to watch for a bit. The show has gone through its ups and downs over its 35 year run, but the fact that it is still on the air after 35 years is a testament to the staying power of the show. Lorne Michaels is a genius at finding and developing young, comedic talent. SNL has produced a bevy of stars over the years, from Eddie Murphy to Tina Fey. The show is doing well again thanks to Ms. Fey and the rest of the team, but I love watching clips from the old shows. Every Saturday I will give you guys one of my favorites. This weeks clip features Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze auditioning for a spot to dance at Chippendale's... everyone has seen this clip and loves it. Its a shame that these two geniuses were taken from us so soon, cause I would love for them to have re-visited this skit again years later. Enjoy... Live from my living room, It's Saturday Night!!!

It's Saturday: Lets All Go To The Movies !!!!

OK, OK... you made it through another week. And even though the weekend starts at 5 pm on Friday, most of us really don't start to enjoy our weekend until Saturday morning. Waking up and not having to go to the hell hole of a job that you occupy during the week is a relief of epic proportions. You can do whatever you want, and usually for me that involves wanting to hit up a movie theater at some point. The reasons why its a great idea to go to the movies are endless, but one reason I like it is that its a short term event (like 2,3 hours tops) that you can fit in anytime during a busy weekend. We all know whats playing at the Multiplex... everyday we are bombarded with ad's for movies in the newspaper, on the train, and on the radio. My then 3 year old son used to ask me what the date was, and when I would tell him, he would then immediately shout out the big movie that was opening that week. But in most cities across the US, there are alternative/boutique type theaters that show mostly independent and revival films. The independents are cool, but the revival films are the best. What better way to relive your childhood then seeing "Gremlins" on the big scree en after 20 years. Or maybe getting a chance to see something at the movies that you weren't around to see during it's original run. Either way it's a great activity for day or night. Here was going on in movies this week. Enjoy the fresh popcorn !!!

NEW RELEASES: Edge of Darkness (Mel Gibson), When in Rome (Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel)

INDEPENDENT/INTERNATIONAL RELEASES: North Face, 44 Inch Chest

SPECIAL SCREENINGS:

-Director Akira Kurowsawa Retrospective (Best Japanese Director Ever. Directed The Seven Samauri)@ The Film Forum, 212-727-8110
-The Creature from the Black Lagoon and Return of the Creature (Original Universal Horror Classics) @ The Museum of Modern Art, 212-708-9480
-Stephen King's The Shining @ The IFC Center 212-924-7771 Midnight Show Only

PICK OF THE WEEK:

-The Original Evil Dead showing at Midnight Only @ Landmark Sunshine Cinemas 212-330-8182

Director Sam Raimi will be appearing live!!!! This is one of my favorite movies ever and I cant get to see it this weekend, but all of you TRUE HORROR FANS need to get over to Sunshine Cinemas and make this happen on the big screen!!!!

So get out, get into a movie theater, and break out the snacks that you snuck in because you need a checking account with four zeroes to shop at the concession stand... but never skip the popcorn!!! Happy viewing

JD Salinger: American Literary Legend Enters The Great Library In The Sky

Farewell JD Salinger. The reclusive author, most famous for his 1951 novel Catcher in the Rye, died Wednesday at his New Hampshire home. Long out of the spotlight due to the fact that he shunned his super stardom, its not a surprise that information on his death came out a full day after he actually died. He had successfully published a few short stories in the 40's, and one even got optioned for a movie. But Sam Goldwyn destroyed the soul of Salinger's short story "Uncle Wiggly in Connecticut" when he made the film "My Foolish Heart". Salinger hated the movie, and vowed to never allow his work to be adapted again. This was something he never gave in on. His first novel was Catcher In the Rye. Salinger was one of those rare talents that nailed it on the first shot, having a hugely successful novel with his first published book. He recieved offers from the Hollywood elite for over 5 decades to adapt the novel. Billy Wilder and Steven Spielberg, two of the greatest directors ever, both tried unsuccessfully to option the book. He would not budge.

Salinger hated the spotlight, and it is rumored that he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from the time he spent in the army during World War II. He lead a very sheltered life out of the public eye and with the success of Catcher in the Rye he probably didn't want for much. Catcher has sold over 65 million books worldwide and still, 59 years later, moves 250,000 copies a year. It is the quintessential High School English class book, along with Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. Although the book was criticized for its language and sexual content in the 60's and the 70's, it is widely accepted as a literary masterpiece that is close to perfection in most of today's modern literary circles. Holden Caufield is the one of the most recognizable characters in literature, and its a shame that a great actor never got to bring him to life on the silver screen. Hopefully, once Salinger's material enters into public domain sometime in like 70 years, there will be a filmmaker that will get a crack at this classic. Its a shame that I'll probably be gone before that happens. Peace out JD, enjoy the spotlight in heaven that you so rightfully deserved but shunned here on earth...

NYC Subway Ads For Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland... Wow!!

So I was walking down the stairs from the J train on Essex St to transfer to the F train, and I ran smack into this huge display ad for Alice in Wonderland that was not there yesterday. Three separately framed posters, all over 7 feet high, portray a variety of characters from the film. I froze and marveled at the hugeness of the posters and then realized I had to photo this. So I pulled out my MyTouch and made the magic happen. The lighting sucked and I didn't have a photography lamp handy, so the quality of the pics is not great. I know I could have probably found these photos online in HD quality, but I feel like these shots better represent my experience of seeing the ad for the first time in person... you can even see me in the reflections a little bit!!!

Alice and The White Rabbit

The Mad Hatter

Cheshire Cat, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, The White Queen and Red Queen

The movie comes out on March 5, 2010 and will be presented in Imax 3D... I Included a link to the trailer (below) cause Youtube will not let me embedded it, sorry. I think it looks great. Burton is perfect at this type of weird shit, and if you ever read the original book by Lewis Carrol... well lets just say that my man Lewis probably made Pookie from New Jack City look like Barack Obama... just saying, Burton is definitely a good fit for this one. Will you go see it ??? What do you think looks the coolest in the trailer??? Holla back kiddies...

NBA All Star Reserves Named: Who Made The Cut?

The NBA announced its All Star Reserves last night, and fans in NY are about as happy as they used to be when MJ and the Bulls used to come to the Garden. David Lee, one of the lone bright spots for the lowly Knicks, was snubbed by the coaches selection committee. The list of guys who made the team are as follows:

West-
Deron Williams- Jazz
Brandon Roy- Blazers
Kevin Durant- Thunder
Dirk Nowitski- Mavs
Chris Paul- Hornets
Zach Randolph- Grizzlies
Pau Gasol- Lakers

East-
Rajon Rondo- Celtics
Gerald Wallace- Bobcats
Joe Johnson- Hawks
Chris Bosh- Raptors
Paul Pierce- Celtics
Derrick Rose- Bulls
Al Horford- Hawks

The Lee snub seems to be a re-occurring event, as this time last year Lee also was left off the team. The Knicks constant under achieving and the teams strategy of keeping shitty players on their roster to lower payroll and score a high profile free agent (Lebron, Wade, Bosh) may have lead the coaches to chose Horford, who averages less points and boards then Lee. Nowitski will be playing on his home court (technically up the street at Cowboy Stadium) and will probably put on a show. Even though Ze German is not starting, he is my pick for MVP... The All Star Game airs Sunday Feb. 14, 2010 on TNT.

Ramses the Ram and I: MSG 2009

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge sports fan. I rep for my NYC teams hard... but growing up we New Yorkers had very little to root for in the ways of college athletics. St Johns had a few good basketball teams, but other then that the City That Never Sleeps was quite under represented. This lead most of my friends and I to root for college squads from other parts of the country. I love the Miami Canes in Football ( The who... The U!!!). In basketball, as long as I could remember I have bled Carolina Blue. I don't remember MJ there, (I was 3-5 for chrissakes!!!) but I do remember Vin-sanity, Ed Cota, Antwan Jam-0-son, Eric Montross (go white boy, go white boy, go!!!) and all the other greats that have played for the Heels. This year the team is struggling a bit (13-7), but that was to be expected after losing Ty Lawson and Tyler Hansborough. The defending National champions came to the Garden this year to play Ohio State in the EA Sports College Classic. My boy Joe Quinn (what up kid) hooked it up and got us seats right behind Dickie V, like 3rd row. Then one of my childhood fantasies came true: Ramses the Ram, the Carolina Mascot, came up my row in the stands. I jumped up, cut him off, and mad Mr. Quinn start a photo shoot right there on the spot. Ramses was courteous, and afterward he gave me a pound. Just and awesome experience that I wanted to share with you guys... tear. Hahaha, but seriously, it was to cool to get the pic. And The Heels took the Buckeyes out that night. Lets hope they get it turned around before tournament time. Go Heelsssssssss!!!!!!!

4 Days Away From Starting To Understand... At Least I Hope So!!!

Bill Gates Getting It In @ Sundance: WTF?!?

I was going to write this story yesterday, but I chose not to. I figured how bad could it be. Bill Gates danced at a club, wow... stop the presses. But then I read yesterdays NY Post and saw the pictures... and I was dumbfounded. Here is one of the world richest men dancing on table at a nightclub @ Sundance with a bunch of chicks!!! Sick... it was probably like Elaine dancing with Jerry in that club that night.

But the worst was the double high five he gave his female companions. That must have scored mad cool points with the ladies. They were probably hanging out with A Billi because he is such a cool guy, not because his BILLIONS OF DOLLARS... Uggghhh!!!

It was also said that Gates was trying to meet/ stalking the life of Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame. He wanted to meet her because she is playing Joan Jett in her new movie The Runaways.., or was it cause he wants to steal her and keep her in his real person doll house he has at his compound??? He was rolling around town trying to find his Bella and probably creeping out folks all over along the way. Get back to the office, Mr. Gates. Leave our moody, teenage angst filled actresses alone...

WHERE THE TRUE PLAYERS AT??? THROW YOUR ROLLIE IN THE SKY... WAVE IT SIDE TO SIDE!!!

Azaz Ansari Is In Everything... Thankfully So

If you don't know who Azaz Ansari is, you must not be watching films lately. This guy appears to be in every movie. He was in last years popular Funny People with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen, and in I Love You Man with Jason Segal and Paul Rudd. You may also know him from Human Giant sketch comedy fame. Often playing small parts (for now) he steals the show with his dry delivery. But teh other night I happened to catch his standup on Comedy Central, and I was on the floor crying my eyes out. He is hialrious. Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening aired last week and is a must see. It is avalable for purchase on DVD as of 1/19. You will love this guys, I promise. Here is the Amazon link for it:

You can catch Aziz on Parks and Recreation with Amy Poehler on NBC and in the sequel to Forgetting Sara Marshall, Get Him To the Greek starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand. Enjoy!!!

Ipad Debuts To Much Excitement, Set To Take on Laptops, Kindles and the World!!!

Steve Jobs has done it again. Well not entirely by himself, I'm sure he has some sort of a staff helping him. But there he was again, up on that stage as he has done so many times in the past, introducing us to the new Ipad and preparing us for the next must have device of the future. Jobs is should be getting used to this. So far as I can remember, Apple has had hit after hit with its new and innovative products. It changed the world with the Ipod, their computers have become more mainstream (No longer just for graphic artists) and the Apple stores around the country are often more packed then a Costco when you happen to walk by. This Ipad promise to be the device that ends all other devices, the one that replaces ALL of your travel tech needs. And all that for just $499.00.

Basically, the Ipad is just a larger version of the Itouch or Iphone. This bigger touchscreen is great for watching video or surfing the net. Ride any train in NYC and you see thousands of people watching videos on their tiny Ipod screens. The Ipad gives you a much bigger, clearer picture. But the biggest news is that Apple is going after the digital book market. Apple is also launching Ibook, which is a Itunes like store online where you can buy digital books. You download the books, then can access them in full color... while the Kindle and Sony Reader remain black and white. This along with all the features of a laptop and Ipod make the device well rounded and a must have for everyone who is anyone.

While everyone is pretty excited, there are some drawbacks to the Ipad. First, the full color screen will be dope, but it is sure to use a lot of battery power. Fuck all that noise about the battery life they SAY to expect, once you get it, will you have to charge it constantly??? The Kindle and other readers on the market have longer battery lives then a Twinkies shelf life, going on and on for days without needing to be charged due to its black and white screen. The Kindle also has limited features. This Ipad can do pretty much anything from surfing the web to solving world hunger, and its likely the people who buy it will want to do all these things. The more programs and uses a person is going to use, the quicker the battery will dwindle.

Also the price may be a problem. Even though $499 is low for a new innovative product, the Kindle is almost half that. Throw in the fact that there are thousands of netbooks offered at around $200 that are very portable laptop solutions and it makes you have to consider if the Ipad is worth the dough. Also, Kindle just launched a new APP for the Iphone, Blackberry and most laptops that allows the user to turn any device into a Kindle. You download the books digitally and use a similar interface as the Kindle to read your downloaded books on the your devices. This gives you the access to the Kindle experience without requiring you to fork over the money for the actual Kindle. But I'm sure it past track record will afford Apple another smashing success with the Ipad. I'm not planning on getting one just yet, but my Itouch is a great device... maybe somewhere on the future. Are you getting an Ipad as soon as they come out??? Do you need another device in your life??? Will you wait on the welfare type lines that are sure to pop up all over cities around the country on the release date??? Let us know in the comment section... happy E reading everyone!!!

Sneaker Freak Vol. 1: February Release

For those of you who do not know me, I am a sneaker freak. I have over 200 pairs of kicks and I love everything sneaker. My only problem is that I have lost the passion to want all the new releases that come out. Maybe its due to to many shoes being released every week, or maybe its due to the fact that punks wait on line to cop a pair of J's to turn right around and try to sell them for double. I hate that shit. I buy my kicks to wear them, I buy them cause I think there fly... not because its some collabo with another company that results in a must have fugly sneaker.

With that, I came across some pics of two upcoming releases from Jordan Brand. February is always a big month for #23... He always dropped the first edition of his new sneakers right before the NBA All Star break, usually the 2nd week in February. This year, the first Feb release will be a pair of Retro Jordan 6's in White/Black

These are a beautiful color combo from the model that the Jordan Brand has retroed the least. Both the Carmine 6's and The Black/Gold DMP came in a pack, so these are a long time coming. The Black/Red 6's were released last week and the Jordan guys promise more 6's to come.

The other news is on the New Jordan front. After the 23rd edition, the brand stopped using numbers and started using the year. This years 2010 model is hot, and is sure to be a great shoe to ball in (as most of the newer J's are). Here they are:

But the real news surrounding this new release is that they will be the first shoe worn by the newest member of Team Jordan, Dwanye Wade!!!! Here is a pic of Wade and His Airness....

Have fun out there sneaker shopping kids, and remember: Buy them cause you want them, Buy them so you can wear them, Buy them cause you love them... Happy hunting!!!!

When Cool People Clearly Are Not Cool

Brendan Frasier is a tool... and after this clip of his reaction to a Robert De Niro joke @ the Golden Globes last week, even if you thought he had some redeeming qualities you will soon forget about it. Funny or Die comes through once again and make us laugh!!!!

Avatar Stands Alone: Sinks Titanic In Worldwide Box Office Take

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist using "sinks Titanic" in the titled. I'm a cheese ball, but you'll learn to love it. Props must be given to the Man-God that is James Cameron. In the history of films, only 5 have made over a BILLION dollars worldwide. The Dark Knight is 5th, Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Mans Chest is 4th, and LOTR: Return of the King is 3rd. But they all barely topped the 1 BILLION mark, and were part of major tent pole multi movie franchises. Coming in at 1.84 BILLI is Titanic, which towers over Return of the King by over 600 Million Dollars. Then there is the juggernaut that is Avatar, which after this weekend is sitting on 1.86 BILLION... Do you think its a coincidence that the director of both of these top 2 films is the same: James Cameron. Can it be we are seeing the resurrection of Jesus in the filmmaker form??? Don't be so quick to dismiss...

Here's why I think he can perform miracles. Titanic was just that, titanic. It made its huge windfall over the course of 10 months, 10 torturous months of hearing that damn Celine Dion song... But Avatar has already passed up its predecessor in just 6 WEEKS!!!! Titanic: 1.84 billi in 40 weeks, Avatar 1.86 Billi in 6 weeks... Are you kidding me. If Cameron isn't the second coming, then he definitely sold his soul to the devil cause this just doesn't make sense. If Avatar has the same kind of 10 month run that Titanic had, Cameron and Co. will be making Dr. Evil Money, no doubt about it. How much do you think it will make??? Lets hear your opinion. Right now I'm going to go over to the makeshift alter in my living room made up of Titanic, T2, and Avatar movie merchandise and pray to our new master Lord James Cameron... laters.

Is Jay-Z Really Going To Buy Llamas For The Whole Hood???

So, I'm sure there are more then a few of you guys trying to figure out where I'm going with this post. You see, one of my favorite parts of the past presidential election was all of the rap lyrics that began to focus on the first black candidate to ever run for the presidency. Everybody from Kanye to Young Jeezy got in on the Obama name dropping, and this practice continues still as we enter year two of the "Age of Obama". But my favorite lyric by far came from Brooklyn boy Shawn Carter, also know as the one and only Jay-Z. In his freestyle over Lil Wayne's track "A Milli", Young Hov renamed the track "A Billi" and rapped about all the royalties he has accumulated over the years. But His biggest boast, even though it didn't seem so at the time, involved our president. In a declaration towards the change that would be coming under the newly appointed commander in chief, Mr. Carter dropped the following gem:

"So Brrrrrack, lick a shot, for Barack Obama, Change gon come-ah, If not, I'ma buy the whole hood llamas on me!!!"

For those of you who don't speak street, basically Jay told us to pop shots in the air to celebrate the change Barack Obama was going to bring America as president. And if for some reason Barack didn't change anything after the election, he promised to buy the whole hood guns (llamas, cause they spit bullets) to force that change. Well, its been a year, and so far not much has changed. Well, that's not totally true. Massachusetts, the most blue state in the country, just got their first republican senator in 47 years. I guess that's change, just not the kind democrats were hoping for. Good thing Mr. Hova has all that cash...

Jay's home borough of Brooklyn NY has about 3 million people residing in it, and NYC's population has swelled to over 8.5 million. That's alot of guns to provide, and even more to buy all those bullets... Good thing Jay-z is caked up. Looks like Beyonce might have to start settling for the Steve Madden Tims and Burberry for more then swimming...Lol!!! I included the youtube video of the freestyle, pay close attention at about the one minute mark.

This Movie Is Gonna Be Sick... and I Dont Mean Sick In A Good Way

I heard about this movie a ways back, but now as the release date is approaching, controversy is starting to swirl. Now, for the record, I am hardcore horrorhound... I live for disturbing shit. I was watching Faces of Death when most kids were still watching Silver Spoons... But this one might even be to much for me. The 59 second trailer freaked me out... so whats the hour and a half feature gonna do? How much is to much??? Here's a better question: How do the people who come up with this shit avoid suspicion of being a serial killer of Dahmer like porportions??? How is this kind of stuff turned in to movie making companies or publishing houses and they get a greenlight instead of getting foward to Agent Clarice Starling of the FBI I have no idea. Let us know if you plan on seeing or skipping this one... I cant wait to see the comments you crazies leave. Also, whats the sickest thing you ever watched??? Which movie made you squirn the most??? Ok, now feel free to talk amongst yourselves... laters.

The First Fan- Who Dat Gonna Win The Super Bowl?

Barack will take the points!!! In an interview with Diane Sawyer, huge sports fan Brother Barack was asked who he was rooting for in the upcoming Superbowl XLIV. Watch the clip that aired on ESPN in which he picks the New Orleans Saints over the favored Indy Colts. He is rooting for the Saints cause what they mean to their city, especially after Hurricane Katrina. I love Mr. O for the simple fact that he doesn't hold back answers to the everyday questions, and goes even further by explaining himself. Lets see if the Saints can pull of the upset and get their first franchise championship. To be honest they have a better shot at upsetting Peyton Manning and the Colts then Obama has of getting his health care bill passed!!! The game is less then two weeks away. Place your bets.

Adidas joins the Star Wars X-over Party

Welcome to the dark side Adidas... and the side of the force as well. Adidas is coming out with multiple pairs of shoes and apparel depicting many characters from the beloved Star Wars films, like Luke Skywalker and Stormtrooper Orginals as well as vehicles like the Millenium Falcon Rod Lavers and the AT-AT Orginal Forums. The Vader ZX Runners are alright, and some of the shoes are downright disgusting (Sorry Yoda). Although there has been thousands of collabo's between Star Wars and various apparel companies, this one has the best commercial by far. A B-Boying break dance fight, Zoolander style, featuring Mr. Darth Vader??? The baddest mofo in the galaxy??? To a Hip Hop version of the Imperial March??? This is a dream come true for sneaker head/sci-fi freaks like me. There is also a short little cameo by Snoop Dogg getting his groove on. Check the clip out on YouTube & may the force be with you.

Welcome To CCD: Finally, A Place for people like you!!!

Hello!!! I am Mr. Mike D and I am extremely excited to welcome you to Cultural Compulsive Disorder. I gotta know whats going on, whats coming up, and what has happened in the past... it's an obsession. So since I come across such cool shit, why not share it with all of you??? All I ask is that you guys bear with me while I get the hang of posting blogs on this site... and if you like what you read, spread the word. The more readers, the better. Thanks again and welcome to the group therapy... feel free to share!!!
