"The Pirates! Band of Misfits" Looks Pretty Good...

Movies that use stop motion technology and have the claymation feel of old bring me back to a special place in my life. I have always loved the awkward style of these types of films and the unique look that the characters take on. Chicken Run was a very underrated movie from about 5 years ago and if you never seen it you should check it out. Very well put together and funny to boot. The studio is back with a new flick, entitled "The Pirates! Band of Misfits", looks pretty spectacular. Featuring a cool voice cast (Hugh Grant, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, etc ) and some wonderful animation, this one is sure to be entertaining. Catch the synopsis and a few trailers after the jump, one of which is a parody of the recent box office smash "The Hunger Games". I will be checking it out... will you???

Synopsis:
Hugh Grant, starring in his first animated role, is the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

Trailer #2 Hunger Games Parody:

Adventure Time by No Sleep Jinx

Cartoons nowadays don't have shit on the cartoons of the 80's... I'm not trying to be a curmudgeon or anything like that, but it is just true. The recent generation (post 2000) of cartoons have been lacking in originality and fun, but as in any case there are exceptions to the rule. Adventure Time with Finn & Jake happens to be one of those exceptions. It is a great show that has just started it's fourth season and hearkens back to the good ole days of 80's cartoon bliss. The animation is cool, the characters are fun, and it has just the right level of obnoxious humor and subliminal messaging that makes an adult feel OK about watching it. With over 100+ episodes in the books it is safe to say that Finn & Jake are going to be remembered for a long time. Check out artist Tara Billinger (NoSleepJinx on Deviant Art) as she takes on the crew, even including some of the extended characters from the show such as my personal fave The Ice King!!!! Tenacious D Is Back... Let The Fenix Rize!!!!

As far as pet projects go, I have always held a special place in my heart for Tenacious D. The gag band, that features comedic actors Kyle Gass and Jack Black, are much more than just a one note sideshow. They are actually HUGE fans of the hard rock they perform in the group and would definitely have loved to have lived that career path if they could do it all over again. One of the most underrated movies I have ever seen has to be Tenacious D & The Pick of Destiny. The movie is very polarizing, and a lot of people hate it. But if you are a fan of things like Spinal Tap, Flight of the Concords, or similar properties than you are probably one of the few like me who loved it. I am actually not a huge fan of Black on a regular basis, but I always liked him opposite Gass in the fictional hard rock band. So to tout their return album, "Rize of the Fenix", here is the pro,o video they released for the film. It stars The D alongside celebs like Val Kilmer, Maria Menudous, Josh Groban, and others and chronicles the return of The D in all their glory. They are BACK!!! Click after the jump for the promo clip, Rize of the Fenix is out in stores in May 2012.

Ghoulies by Monster Cola

I was just flipping through the billion cable channels I have (and still can't find anything to watch) when I stumbled upon the late 80's crapfest gem that is Ghoulies II. This film is a terrible sequel to a cheestastic film from the 80s that I absolutely love. In the first film, little demonic creatures are summoned from beyond to make things difficult for a young Mariska Hargitay. But the reason why any real "80's Baby" who spent time in a Mom & Pop video store knows the film is because of the box art that features one of said Ghoulies popping out of a toilet. The box art is iconic and I know anytime I hear a reference to the 1985 film or any of its terrible sequels (there were four... FOUR!!!) it is all I can think of. So i decided to hit the ole Deviant Art network of artists in search for a good recreation. It was the only thing I could do to stop myself from watching the horrible sequel that is on Encore as we speak. Look what I turned up from Monster Cola after the jump...

The Recreation:

SNL: The Real Housewives of Disney

I have not watched Saturday Night Live all year this year... not once. The show will always have a soft spot in my heart, and I have heard some great things about the younger cast members... but lets be honest: The show has lost its luster. I have no urge to check in on the program, and every once and again I come across a clip online that I think is funny. this happened to me today, as I came across a skit from a few weeks back when Lindsay Lohan hosted. It's a spoof of the "Real Housewives Of..." shows on Bravo and this time the locale is the wonderful world of Disney. It wasn't hysterically funny like SNL used to be, but this one is pretty funny and is well written in terms of the history of the Disney characters they used. Prince Charming as a closeted homo? priceless....

Mall Rats: The Magic Eye Photo Explained...

Mall Rats is one of my all time favorite movies and is the film that clinched Kevin Smith as one of my favorite filmmakers. I loved Clerks, but Mall Rats showed what Smith could do if he was given some money and real sets to make a movie. One of the funniest scenes to take place in the film has to be the schooner scene with the magic painting. Willam can't see the sailboat that is in the picture, and it is a running gag throughout the film until he loses his mind and wrecks the whole stand.... but what if there really was NO SAILBOAT in the picture in the first place? Check out this cool video in which they use use Photoshop to break down the image and show us what really is inside the picture... click after the jump for more.

So I Have Tried To Avoid Spoilers On The Spider-Man Reboot, But I Can't Stay Quiet About This One...

So as someone who blogs excellsively & reads the Internet as much as I do, I have become sompletely uninterested in spoilers & set stories that come from movies that are not coming out for 12-18 months. First off, who the fuck cares? Chances are the shit that people are "reporting" is made up and twisted up facts anyway... how many times have spoilers actually been 100% right? Almost never... Secondly, why do I want to know key plot points and elements if we truly want to see an interesting movie? I am pumped that I do not know who The Avengers are fighting in the upcoming mega movie, I'm glad I will be surprised when I find out who Joseph Gordon Levitt is playing in The Dark Knight Rises, and I don't want some geeky blogger taking 100's of shots at guessing on something until he ends up being right about SOMETHING... take enough guess and something is bound to be similar to ONE of your theories. Anyway, the point is that I have been avoiding all spoilers and I have become a much happier person for it. But now that these films are right on the horizon, lets talk a bit about some of the deatils... specifically, why the fuck does The Lizard look like a combination between a creature from C.H.U.D. & a Sleesak from land of the Lost?

Click after the jump for more...

Now, let me start by saying this is not a spoiler because the official image has been released by the studio. See for yourself:

Grrrr... what the fuck is that? With all the technology and CGI that we have today, all of the great looking monsters that I have seen throughout the years, how the fuck is the best we could get on a FUCKING SPIDER MAN movie? It looks like a combination of the monsters of the horrid 80's flick C.H.U.D. and the newer Sleesaks from The Land of the Lost. Need reminding on what they look like? Here you go:

Really? This is the best we could do? I am really nervous about this movie, and it all stems from the look of the villain. But I could be wrong. Sometimes a still photo does not look exactly like how it looks in motion... but still, I think this is an abomination. But we shall see.... this is exactly why I don't read spoilers. I am mad about this character design now, but I only have to wait about a month to see how it pans out. But imagine if I had to wonder about this 12 months ago??? Well, we shall see... I hope Garfield and Stone can save this one. We shall see in a few weeks....
