Vice and 'The Conjuring' Production Team Present: The 3:07 Project

There are so many cool things out there on the interwebs that sometimes things just go unnoticed by you no matter how interested you may be in the subject matter. I am a huge fan of horror films and love to follow my buddy John Squires on all of the various horror sites he writes for (Fearnet, Kumbaya, and especially his blog Freddy In Space!). But Johnny does so much blogging that sometimes things fall through the cracks. The 3:07 Project is one of those cases. The gang over at Vice teamed up with the productions team of this summers major horror hit film The Conjuring to come up with a short film series from some up and coming directors that focus around 3:07 AM... the Devil's Hour. For those of you who have seen The Conjuring you know that this time plays a prominent role in the story, as this is the time when supernatural and spiritual behavior is at its height. They didn't play no games, tapping four very talented directors to take on this subject matter. Nacho Vigalando (Time Crimes), Ti West (House of the Devil), Max Landis (son of John Landis, screenwriter of Chronicle), and Jason Eisner (Hobo with a Shotgun) all have their own short entry... and you can catch all four of them in one short 7 minute video after the jump. Trailers From Hell: Director Ti West Takes On Clue

I have been a fan of Trailers From Hell for quite a while now, a web series that sits down with famous directors and allows them to talk briefly about some of their favorite movies and the trailers that were made for them. I like that TFH includes luminaries such as Joe Dante (Gremlins), Roger Corman (countless producer of B movies extraordinaire), Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), Lloyd Kaufman (Troma films), and many others newcomers as well to get a few comments on the movies they love and the trailers that help promote them. One of those newcomers is Ti West, director of the criminally underrated 'House of the Devil' and The Innkeepers. West is one of the hottest young horror directors in Hollywood, and he picked an interesting choice for his Trailers From Hell debut: He picks apart Clue, on of my personal favorite movies and the movie that happened to be the film that West saw first in the cinema. It is good to get some feedback on classic movies from heavyweights in the game, especially when it is short and sweet... I also love that they are not breaking down serious films, more of the garden variety fun stuff that they liked when they were kids. The ABC's of Death: 26 Ways To Die... Choose One!!!!

This is a very interesting anthology horror film project from the gang over at Magnet. 26 different directors. 26 short films. Shot in 15 countries around the globe. All of the clips having one thing in common: they deal with death in some way, shape or form. There are some great directors on this list (check out the list after the jump), from Nacho Vigalondo to Ti West. My interest is piqued. Magnet has been hitting homers left & right lately (Tucker & Dale vs Evil, V/H/S, The Innkeepers) so I will definitely give it a shot. It will be hitting a limited theatrical run and VOD towards the end of January. Enjoy the trailer after the jump....

V/H/S Hopes To Bring Back The Golden Age of Horror Anthology Films

As an 80s baby I miss the days of the horror anthology. At the time we were lucky enough to be blessed with numerous horror anthologies on both TV and on the big screen. TV shows like Tales From The Darkside, Tales From The Crypt, Friday the 13th: The Series, and The Outer Limits were on the air scaring the shit out of me with a different story every episode. Movies like Creepshow 1 & 2, Cat's Eye,  Two Evil Eyes, Body Bags, and film versions of Tales From the Darkside/Crypt all brought the scares to the movie theater and took that extra step that the TV counterparts couldn't pull off. But for a while, horror anthologies went by the wayside. It wasn't until 2007's Trick R' Treat (a favorite of Jeff & I here at CCD) that a meaningful horror anthology hit the screen, and by was it a doozy! That film started the ball rolling on a few more recent projects like Chillerama and even the Grindhouse movie from Tarantino/Rodriguez (when pairing the two movies with the faux trailer mini movies, you get anthology). But now we have a film that is promising to bring it all full circle, and some of Horror's best young talented writers & directors are hoping to make it happen. V/H/S comes to us courtesy of Ti West (House of the Devil), and he is accompanied by talents like Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg, and the guys of Radio Silence in this found footage anthology... and boy does this Red Band Trailer look insane!!! The Bloody Best... Horror Photography At Its Finest!

Thanks to my favorite horror blogger Johnny from Freddy In Space, I have been put on to a cool horror themed photography project that is taking place and is featuring some of the best and brightest in the horror genre as the subjects of the pictures. Actresses Danielle Harris & Ashlynn Yennie and directors James Gunn, Ti West, and Adam Green all pose for the team of Ama (photographer), Melissa (make-up), Autumn (wardrobe), and Roger (visual effects) as they create some outstanding horror themed photographs.
