The New Yorker Celebrates The Greatness of 'Breaking Bad' With A Cartoon Cover...
As I enter my mid 30s (begrudgingly) my taste in magazines has started to grow to things a it more diverse than Sports Illustrated, Maxim, Slam and XXL. I am looking for intelligent magazines that give me a great mix of entertainment and news stories that I want to read. Back in the day most magazines would be either one or the other... you wouldn't see a story about a TV show running alongside a political piece just pages away from each other. But this is the era of gratification to everybody, all the time. So why would magazine content be any different? The cover of this weeks issue comes in honor of Breaking Bad, and it is in the New Yorker's traditional cartoon style... big heads and all. This is very cool, and fitting to honor such a great show. I really like that they moved Jesse to the forefront and Walt as the concern parent in the background. It also may just vault the New Yorker into my weekly magazine rotation. We shall see. The series finale of Breaking Bad will air on Sunday. Check out the full cover after the jump...

That's not Jesse. That's Bashar Assad, the head of Syria who is in the news for creating chemical weapons that he uses on his own people.
ReplyDeleteStick to your Sports Illustrated and Maxim. You probably are a Bill Simmons fan to boot.
First of all, I only seen the image and it was before the issue came out. How the fuck was I supposed to know that the character portrayal on the cover was Assad and not Jesse? I was under the impression that it was to honor the end of Breaking Bad, didn't realize it was a mash up for the Syria sitaution. Not to mention that it does really look like Jesse...
DeleteAs for your other comments, suck a huge dick. While I don't poo poo Maxim or SI as non quality magazines like the elitist prick you may be, I definitely have a wide variety of tastes... especially when it comes to magazines. Oh, and I liked your Bill Simmons quip... that was clever... um, yeah, no.
Point is you commented a week AFTER the magazine hit stands and the article that appears inside probably appears online. I on the other hand published this article on SEPT 24th. A FULL WEEK BEFORE I COULD READ THE ARTICLE....
Thanks for playing, you are the weakest link.... goodbye!

It's not a "mashup." It's a joke.

No, it doesn't. AT ALL.

So you do like Bill Simmons? If you've ever laughed at anything he's written it explains a lot.

The picture has nothing to do with any article inside. It's a joke that stands perfectly fine on its own, and it's based on current events. Assad and Obama were in a tense political standoff recently because Syria was manufacturing and using chemical weapons. So the joke is that Walt comes down to do some chemistry and make meth, only to find that Assad is doing his own chemistry, making chemical weapons. I never bought or read the issue. I just had to look at the picture to get the joke.
