The CCD Podcast: Episode #82 - The Star Wars Art Show

CCD.NYC has been sponsoring live art shows around Brooklyn for the past year, and one of the places we got the inspiration to do those shows was from our good friend Joseph Milazzo. Milazzo is a talented musician and artist himself, and he has been putting together shows for years now. We liked his format of rotating artists in for each so and having a theme... so we kinda stole it and added the pop culture twist! So when Joe told us that his next show was going to be focusing on a Pop Culture phenomenon such as Star Wars we had to have him on the podcast to tell us all about it! The 15 pieces from the show will be on display on Saturday Dec 12th at 3 Jolly Pigeons bar in Bay Ridge (click here for details) all night, but listen to Jedi Rob chop it up with Joe and one of the other artists in the show Al Accettura as a bit of a sneak preview!!!

7 Reasons Why Luke’s Not the Villain In Star Wars: The Force Awakens by James West

First of all, full disclaimer: if he is, then, well, I’ll look foolish. And hate JJ Abrams. But, as detailed below, I really, really doubt it.

There’s much buzz around the internet lately, and by lately I mean since the first Episode VII trailer came out last year, about the Force Awakens. Which makes sense, it’s arguably the most anticipated movie...ever? And certainly projected to be a blockbuster behemoth. Moreover, very rarely do we have a pop culture movie that seems *important* - but this does. Important to the fans, important to cinema, important to anyone who values the story from the Holy Trilogy (I don’t hate the prequels, but that’s a discussion for another day). But, now, those values are under attack – attack by sensationalist journalists and the people who share their articles. The most outrageous of these claims? That Luke Skywalker is the villain in The Force Awakens. Why? Why would someone make that claim? Who would think to create a theory so maligned with the original movies?

Read more after the jump...

Who, I’m not sure. The “Why” seems to be rooted in the fact that Luke is not in the trailers and Kylo Ren has Vader’s helmet. Here’s why that’s all wrong, to stop sharing that story, and Luke is NOT the villain in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.  Luke *is* in the trailer.

See? See that? That’s Luke. He’s right there. I guess it could *not* be Luke, and just some other guy in a robe with a robot arm who hangs out with R2-D2. I know that’s *possible*. But is it likely? No. Not at all.

Kylo Ren is played by a different actor...

As you can see, that is not Mark Hamill. That is Adam Driver. Adam Driver is playing Kylo Ren. Mark Hamill is playing Luke Skywalker. They are different actors. This isn’t difficult.

DRIVER IS IN THE TRAILER TOO!

LOOK?! SEE?! Even if all those costly photoshoot photos are merely a ruse, you can clearly see the back of Kylo Ren’s unmasked head in the trailer and it is *totally Adam Drivers head*. Jeeze.

Snoke? I dunno no Snoke.

“Okay, so he’s not Kylo Ren...but what if he’s Snoke? The other bad guy?” No. See Andy Serkis? He’s playing Snoke. See all that equipment? Unless he’s undergoing mo-cap to look like Mark Hamill, which wouldn’t make sense because Mark Hamill is alive and well and *in the movie*, Snoke is not Luke. Even if they share the last two letters of their name. Let’s be real. Plus, Snoke is the one speaking over the very first trailer “The dark side...and the Light.”

Luke turning bad is the plot to Return of the Jedi and it DID NOT HAPPEN

Remember Return of the Jedi? Remember that one? Luke’s arc, the plot of the movie, the conclusion of the trilogy, the moral of the story, was that Luke *did not go bad*. He comes close. But the Emperor failed. Luke was a Jedi, like his father Anakin was. That, plus Vader’s redemption, are the conclusion of the two biggest character arcs in the trilogy. Making Luke the bad guy would completely undo every moral and message the first trilogy represented. Not only wouldn’t it make sense, it would be damaging.

 #contractuallyobligatedfacialhair

Why else would he need the beard? The contractually obligated beard that he’s growing out in time for Episode VIII but had to keep for VII? The one that makes him LOOK LIKE A JEDI? C’mon.

This picture, which has not yet been debunked.

‘Nuff said....

The Magic of Foley by Steve Resk

Wrestling has many famous faces, and one of those famous faces...has several faces of his own! Our Good friend Steve Resk of SRG Universe recently had the chance to get some face(s) time with one of the all time greats...

In a time right now where all the wrestling hype seems to be about the legacy of the Undertaker, we can't forget about the man who in my opinion put the Undertaker over. In the dance that is professional wrestling it takes two to tango. When you look back at the great of the attitude era, The Rock, Stone Cold, and Triple H we see a consistent counterpart in Foley. His incredible and sometimes death defying feats, (which none of us will ever forget) make Foley the true immortal of the WWE. This is a man who literally sacrificed part of his body for the industry. But the Sacrificing doesn't stop there.

Read more after the break!

Foley's dedication to activism and charity is admirable. Most of his charitable work focuses on children. This New York Times best selling author has given his time to schools and libraries to promote the value education and stress the importance of reading to children. He has visited hospitals and frequented the Make a Wish Foundation, and is on of the lead donors at Childfund International. Foley's love for the betterment of the world doesn't just stop at the kids, he visited military bases and hospital getting himself a reputation as Legend among he troops. If that wasn't enough he is a supporter of the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network. Where he volunteered his time to victims as well as raised money for the organization by mowing people's lawns, and auctioning off legendary articles of clothing like his thumb tack stuck boots from a bout with Ric Flair, and his infamous white shirt from his battle with the Undertaker at Hell in a Cell. Through his comedy he has raised money for medical needs of retired professional wrestlers, and he has stood up for the human rights of all people. Now that is HARDCORE!

I had the privilege to spend some time in the company of Mick Foley this weekend at WinterCon. Prior to this Foley made an appearance at House of Glory Wrestling's for all Mankind. This appearance was heartfelt and touching, and it gave a wonderful picture of the humble, loving individual we know as the Hardcore legend. You could say we could feel the love. As a advocate of child education myself, and a life long wrestling fan; Foley's legacy to me will not just be about the chair shots and death defying leaps that made ECW and the Attitude era what it is today, but the shots he's taking to make this world a happier place, and leaps forward he has helps pushed our society. Yes, he undoubtedly Hardcore Legend, but more importantly he is a Legend of Human Being, a real life Santa Claus. HAVE A NICE DAY.
