Street Art Meets Super Heroes In Artist Dillon Boy's Work....

There is nothing I enjoy more than finding a cool artists work on Instagram or the Internet, no matter how late to the party I may be. Artist James 'Dillon Boy' Wright has been on the scene for a minute (his Obama 'Hope' poster concoction got him into Time Magazine way back in 2008) and I have seen a few of his pieces over the years. But I just found his Instagram page and was blown away by some of the work he had going on. He has a 'Western Grafitti' series that portrays some of your favorite superheroes in western style get-ups, guns a blazing. Then he has his crazy Disney princess re-creations, or his 'superheros meet real life' mash-ups like 'Nobody Likes The Thing' (my personal fave) which puts these extraordinary characters into real life situations (Thing is getting no likes or comments on Instagram... lol). His shit is dope... and like a typical creative artist he doesn't just stop at the actual artwork. If you look at the contents of his Instagram feed in grid format he takes close ups of his work and makes 6 and 9 square collages that supersize his pieces. A pretty great way to show of the detail of his pieces. So even though I may be a bit late to the party on Dillon Boy's work, it is never to late to give a cat his props when they are due. Ben Cooper Costumes Revisited

Anyone reading this who was a kid up through the mid-1980s probably spent at least a few Halloweens trolling for candy in a costume manufactured by the Ben Cooper Company.

Founded in 1937, Ben Cooper, Inc. specialized in inexpensive Halloween costumes based on fictional archetypes, historical figures, and pop culture characters. Starting with Superman in the 1950s, expanding in the 1960s and '70s, the company produced dozens of variations of costumes based on superheroes. Check out more after the jump...

 The drawings here illustrate what it would be like if the "real" superheroes actually dressed in outfits designed by the good folks at Ben Cooper, Inc. Some of these are an amalgamation of different elements from the variations over the years, and I still have to get around to doing that Green Lantern suit (because it's crazy awesome). 365 Supes: A Drawing Challenge by Artist Everertt Downing

I love hearing about long term art projects, especially geeky ones. This one took place over the course of 2012, and comes to us courtesy of Pixar artist Everett Downing. He wanted to get all the ideas that were stockpiling in his head onto paper so he started the 365 Supes project which had him coming up with 365 different superheroes/villains over the year, one a day. It is an ambitious project, one that almost got all the way completed. He made 292 entries in all... not to shabby  Just 70 some-odd more to go, but the 292 are pretty amazing. He also set up some ground rules: 1) No design should take more than an hour 2) Very small and limited back stories (which are included with most entries) 3) Come up with a clever name for each of them . He has an unreal blog of all of the creations he has made so far that you can see by clicking here, and Downing vows to finish the rest up over the next few weeks. Construction Paper Superheroes by Doctor Sonic

Superhero art is nothing new now a days... shit, almost everyday I see some artist's rendering of Iron Man or Batman on any of 100 websites. But when you come across an artist who creatively constructs superhero art... well, they deserve to be spotlighted. So I give you the work of Doctor Sonic, an artist who uses construction paper to build his superhero creations. These are absolutely amazing... and I love the fact that Sonic also highlights minor characters instead of just the prime time players. Anybody that creates a Rom the Space Knight or Bi Beast is a-ok in my book!!! I wish I could learn more about the company that produces these photos but their entire website is in Italian.
