Zoe Saldana Is Playing Gamora In 'Guardians of the Galaxy'... Color Me Intrigued!!!!

Casting news abound... and this is the kind of casting news that gets people excited for a project that is still 16 months away. Zoe Saldana, who is quickly becoming a fave among genre fans, has been cast as Gamora in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Saldana is an intricate part of JJ Abrams Star Trek rebooted universe, was in Avatar, and was in comic book adaption The Losers (a very underrated movie...check it). She knows her way around a comic con... but this role will earn her infinite geek cred in the foreseeable future. Click after the jump for more...

Gamora is the adoptive daughter of Thanos, the guy who is being set up as the big baddie of the whole Phase II of Marvel's movie universe. Then she rebels against her poppa and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on the mad titan as he constantly strives towards destroying the universe. She is a bad ass, has some high powered relationships with Nova & Adam Warlock, and a very intricate part of the whole Guardians/Marvel space stories mythos. I for one can't wait to see this movie. Star Lord has been cast as Chris Pratt, David Bautista is playing Drax the Destroyer, and now Saldana is Gamora. I imagine Rocket Raccoon & Groot will be CGI based (or maybe mo cap...please do mo cap!), and now we have an idea of what the whole team will look like.

I really love the casting choices so far, I think Gunn is perfect for the directing gig (Marvel did it again!), and the Guardians are an intricate part of an Marvel cosmic storyline in the history of  the company.  Guardians comes out in August of 2014. I will be there... how about you?  

Sooooooo... Just Who Are These 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Anyway???

As we approach the upcoming Summer movie season, it is only right that as good nerds we automatically begin to look ahead to next year... because lets face it, who really cares about the movies coming out this year? Its all about the future, and the future is certainly looking bright for Marvel Movies. This year we will be getting a Wolverine film, iron Man 3, and a late post summer release with Thor 2: The Dark World... but most of the focus is leaning towards the most mysterious of the announced Marvel films, Guardians of the Galaxy. But the difference between GotG and all of the other Marvel films is one glaring thing: Character Recognition. Most people have a vague knowledge of Thor, Iron Man, and Cap. But who in the fuck are the Guardians of the Galaxy, and how did they get their own big budget movie? Truth be told, they are smaller and lesser known characters in the Marvel Universe... but they do tie in nicely with the characters and story lines that have been sewn together in the Marvel Movie Universe. They are especially tied to the super villain  Thanos, the one who appeared at the end credits of the Avengers and seems to be the villain of the future for that franchise. And I personally can't wait to see a CGI Rocket Raccoon shooting some hand cannons and talking mad shit... he is one of the most underrated characters in the history of comics! So you want a bit of primer to get you excited for Guardians of the Galaxy? Here you go, courtesy of IGN. Iron Man 3: Newest Trailer

It is hard to believe that Iron Man 3 is just a mere two months away from hitting movie theaters  I equate the whole Marvel Movie Universe Experience with my sons life, as his birth in 2002 and 2008s Iron Man was one of the first films he was EXTREMELY excited to go see in the theater. By the ripe old age of 6 I had him fully ingrained and hooked on Marvel Comics, and I knew after Iron Man that we as comic book fans were about to enter the golden age of comic book films. Judging how Thor, Captain America, Iron Man II and the Avengers turned, out, I was very much correct in my assumption. Now we are closing in on the beginning of Phase II of the Marvel movie Universe, and I can't wait to see what comes next. Judging by the 2:30 minutes of footage showed in this last cut of the trailer, I should say we are in for quite the treat. The Mandarin, Iron Patriot, Hulkbuster Armor, the destruction of Tony's house, tons of action, and lots of hidden gems (why does the Mandarin have a tattoo of Captain America's shield on his neck?).
