Star Wars Art: Visions - My Top 5 by Mike D

While the whole book is phenomenal, we thought the best way to share it with you guys would be to pick our favorite 5 pictures out of the book. Talk about a tough job... they are all so great!!! You can purchase the book at your local bookstore or by clicking here. CCD strongly recommend this book for all the Star War Geeks, for which you need to find a gift, during the Xmas season. So with no further ado, here is Mr. Mike D's top 5 pcitures from Star Wars Art: Visions...

The Mos Eisley Cantina w/ George Lucas as bartender by Paul Oxborough
I was immediately drawn to include this wonderful picture of George Lucas as the bartender at The Mos Eisely Cantina by Paul Oxborough for one reason: Why does everybody hate George Lucas so much? Listen, no matter how you feel about his decisions with the direction of the franchise, or how much you hate the prequels, at the end of the day we owe it all to him. This is his baby... and it pisses me off when people seem to dismiss that. His decision making may not be perfect, nor popular amongst core Star Wars fans... but guess what: Tough Shit!!!! It's his franchise, so he can do whatever the fuck he wants....

Empire of Style by Alex Ross
This is my favorite picture in the whole book.... Alex Ross is the man. One don't need to say much more then that. The man is a Golden God amongst artists, and he nails the overall dread that should accompany the evil army of Dark Side that are hanging with Lord Vader in this one. I also love the way he included all the different Storm Trooper Helmet Designs and the creepy red glow of Vader's light saber is gorgeous. Makes you wanna say " F#@k the Force... I'm hanging with these guys over here!!!"

Escape by David Palumbo
I always loved the costume that Leia wears to free Han from Jabba the Hut's lair in Return of the Jedi. The helmet is so cool and I was really taken aback when she takes off the helmet... I was like "Leia??? That's Leia???". Palumbo gets the whole scene right in this one, and Han in Carbonite looks great as well. This is not a very popular moment in the grand scheme of the Star Wars trilogy to most fans, but for me this is one of the best.

Your Father's Lightsaber  by Noah Buchanan
I really was drawn to this one because its the crux of Obi Wan's mission to bring back the Jedi Order. He must bring Luke along and train him in the ways of the Jedi, but he can not reveal that Vader is his pops until he is stable enough to control the obvious reaction that is sure to come from the teenager. Whats the best way to accomplish this? Lie... tell Luke Vader killed your dad, and give him Vader's light saber from when he was still Anakin the good guy. Imagine what it must have been like for Obi Wan all those years on Tatooine waiting for Luke to grow up... that's the true patience of a Jedi.

Wookie Family by Maya Gohill
You gotta love this Wookie family portrait. Its classic. You got mom & pops, and the kids... I love the teenager with the mohawk!!! I also love the way the artist adorns the females with bows and pearls so you can tell them apart from the all male nudes. The pictures in the back are cool... who knew that there was an Eiffel Tower in a galaxy far, far away?  Throw in a Sphinx cat, and you got one happy family!!!

Thanks again to Amy and all the artists who made this book possible... long live the Republic!!!
