OHC Of the Day The Day: Whitney Able

With the recent release of Magnolia film's 'Monsters' directed by, newcomer, Gareth Edwards some fans have sprung up of the beauty that is the film's star, Whitney Able. Besides being featured on random episodes of CSI: NY and the new incarnation of 'Nikita' on CW TV, Mz. Able has garnered the coveted 83rd spot on Maxim's100 list. She's had a small film career so far...but we here at CCD think she's destined for Hollywood success. Look for her in upcoming films 'Pound of Flesh' with CCD all-time favorite Maclolm McDowell, 'Man Without a Head' alongside  fellow hotties Taryn Manning & Shannyn Sossamon, and 'Everything Will Happen When You Die' with John Hawkes & Nick Stahl amongst some other spooky sounding flicks. Without further ado...we give you Whitney Able. And you're welcome.

Terry Gilliam's "The Legend of Hallowdega" Short Film Is Here....

... and you can watch it for free (in its entirety) right here on CCD. Well, not exactly here... you have to watch it on the films website, which you can do by clicking here. This is the short film's description from its website.
For decades legend and lore have swirled around the 2.66 miles of asphalt that make up racing's fastest track -- Talladega Superspeedway. This Halloween, in celebration of the AMP Energy Juice 500 at Talladega on Oct. 31st, the world will learn the “truth”. This original short film, presented by AMP Energy Juice, is directed by Terry Gilliam and stars David Arquette & Justin Kirk, with special appearances by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Darrell Waltrip and many more.
This sounds great. I was given a flyer for this a few weeks back at the 2010 NYC Comic Con, but we had so much swag and promo materials it must have got lost in the shuffle. But here it is, and its pretty cool. I like these types of cross promotional events.... Nascar and Amp Energy Drink benefit, and we all get some more film from Terry Gilliam. I for one can never have to much of that!!! not to mention that David Arquette is as quirky (and awesome!!!) as ever and we get to see brother-in-law Andy from Weeds (Justin Kirk) doing something other then chase Mary-Louise Parker around in circles. Tell me what you think in the comment section below!

All Your Favorite 80's Toys In One...

80's Toy Mashup by Keith Moore

Check out this marvelous design by Keith Moore over at Threadless. This design takes all the wonderful aspects of our favorite 80's toys and mashes up, Mr Potato Head style. You got some GI Joe arms (and guns!) Smurf legs, skin and hat, the famous (or infamous) fur bikini and metal arm bracelet & belt of He-Man, and Optimus Primes head and chestplate. You know what I like the best about it??? Got to be the fact that Keith used Mer Man's sword instead of He-man's. Yeah, I caught that... god, I'm such a geek. Anyway, you can still vote on whether or not this design will become a shirt. Just click here, sign in, and rate it!!! I hope to be adding this one to my collection soon.

So Thats What It Costs To Catch A Space Pirate

250,000 spacebucks... wowsers. That grey/black carbonite just wouldnt work in my apartment though... for that kind of money Jabba should have got it done in some brighter colors to bring out the Feng Sui of the room. This came out last week, but wasn't horror related so didn't go up during CCD All Horror Week. Hope you enjoy.

If You Don't Know Who This Guy Is...

... then you are missing out on one of the greatest horror movies you have probably never even heard of. Check out Clive Barker's Nightbreed (1990) so you can catch a glimpse of monsters, mayhem, and Dr. Dekker... played by the one and only David Cronenberg!!! Unreal.... just unreal. Make it happen people.

My 3 Favorite Scary Movies Of All Time: Mike D. Edition

Ever since that scene in Scream where Ghostface asks Ms Barrymore that same question people have been asking each other it with regularity. Actually, I'm pretty sure they have been asking each other that since the beginning of film itself. Scary movies are just so easy to talk about... and so easy to form an opinion of. For many reasons they are the genre of movies that you can point to and say "Yup, these are the ones I LOVE!!!" In honor of CCD's 1st annual All Horror Week, we decided to highlight some of our contributors and friends 3 favorite scary/horror movies of all time. These may not be the best, but they are each person's FAVORITE, so these lists should be quite fun. Here we go!

"It's The Drunk Monk with a Quart of Balantine..."
I've been writing these blurb paragraphs all week about the great group of people we got here at CCD who commented on their 3 favorite scary movies. Now its time for my picks... damn, I wish somebody could write this intro for me. Anyways, I am the creator of CCD and I am an absolute horror fanatic. When I was a kid, my mom owned a flower shop. On the same block was a video store. She would give them a free arrangement once a week, in return I was allowed to rent a movie a day. So I used to rush home and rent a horror movie, and run to watch it before anybody got home from work. I watched so many horror flicks it hurts my head. Thats when I got hooked. So here are the 3 scary movies that I love the best:

Evil Dead 2 (1987) - There are two reasons why I love this movie (and the franchise so much.) Number 1: Sam Raimi and the cast never take themselves to serious. They make you smile, while in the next scene they make you scream. It's like a bigger budgeted version of the first one (which was made on the cheap). I love the chainsaw scenes, and all the basement locking that takes place puts a smile on my mug. Number 2: I loved, loved, loved the box cover art above!!! That skull stuck with me for my whole childhood. Once I got a shot at seeing some horror flicks, I was renting this one quite regularly. I thoroughly recommend this one!!!!

Suspria - (1977) - I remember the first time I watched Suspiria. I had gotten my aforementioned 1 movie rental one day (this one recommended by the counter guy), and after I popped it into my VCR, I sat down and was not really to optomstic about it. Then the hanging scene (above) came on, and I almost choked on my popcorn... WTF was this??? The colors were so bright and vivid, the POV of the killer that has become Argento's trademark, and the total brutality of the kills (another Argento trademark) had me hooked. After it was done, the next day I confronted the counter guy and begged him for more... did this guy Argento make any other movies? He hit me off with a few more titles, and my life as a Argento fanboy was set in motion. Every top 10, 50 or 100 horror movie list I have ever seen has this in the top 5. There is a reason for that. Amazing... just amazing.

Bloodsuckng Freaks (1976) - Good. Fucking. God. Why is this my all time favorite scary movie, ever? Let me briefly explain: Midget henchman? Check. Psychotic hypnotist/magician/sadist? Check. Magic show that is really a snuff show? Check. Blowdarts? Check. Head drilling? Check. Brain being sucked through a straw? Check. Kidnapping & inprisionment of naked women? Check. Woman being used as a dinner table? Check... I can do this all day. Honestly, this is the sickest movie I have ever come across (and I have watched some sick ones, right Jeff, Bri & Taa? Turtle soup anyone...lol) It's a amazing precursor to the torture porn of Saw & Hostel by 25 years, the most bloody and violent movie I have ever seen, and its completely unapologetic approach towards violence makes it tough to watch again. I tried recently, and actually turned t off because it made me uncomfortable (despite the fact that I have seen it 100's of times). It's on Netflix Instant... just make sure no kids (or judgemental adults) are around when you induldge. Sick fun.

*****Honorable Mention*****

I Spit On Your Grave (og version), Creepshow, Tenebre, Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness, and High Tension.

My 3 Favorite Scary Movies Of All Time: Jeff Bond Edition

Here we go!

If you ever have read a Facebook blast about CCD, or ever read an article here at CCD for that matter, than you have probably witnessed some of Jeff Bond's handywork firsthand. When I started this site, I had a convo with Jeff. He told me that he loved what I was doing, and he wished he could do a site like CCD but he knew that he didn't have the dedication to be consistent. I told him that there were many other ways he could help... and all he has done is anything I have ever asked him and more. JB has become my right hand here at CCD... he ran the blog when I was on vacation, he posts and edits if I can't get to a computer, he comes up with some great posts himself (Lost show recaps, Lego Iconic, Like?Like!) and suggests most of the ideas that I later convert into stories via emails to me beforehand. CCD is getting pretty large right now, and its mostly do to the hard work of guys like Jeff (and the rest of my CCD crew... oh, and me... lol!) With no more time to waste, I bring you the Mad Doctor of CCD Jeffrey Bond's 3 Scariest Movie pics... gosh these are good!!!

SE7EN (1995): One of my top 5 films of all time. It's not your regular horror film and some even think of it as more of a 'crime thriller' than straight out horror (probably because it's so well written and stars some of the top talent of our generation) If you haven't picked up on it's horror elements within the first 20 minutes, once a swat team enters a room with a corpse on a bed and millions of pine tree air fresheners attached to the ceiling you know this isn't going to be a run in the mill suspense tale. I may have seen this film just as many times as the original 'Halloween' and 'Friday the 13th' by now. and I'll be watching it again before the holiday season is up.

Trick R' Treat (2007): Hearkens back to the old style of 80s horror. Kinda light-hearted at times even though there's some scenes that are pretty gosh darned scary. The short stories reminded me a little of something straight out of an old 'Creepshow' or 'Twilight Zone the Movie' film ...but in this case are interwoven in a great way. I would have chosen a classic instead of this one...but, I'm happy to include this one in on the list. It makes me feel like the kind of horror I grew up with could have a place in today's society if done right...done exactly like this!

Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981): Originally a 'made for TV' so it works more with suspense (my type of horror film) than blood and gore. This one pulls some ideas from the original 'Frankenstein' and does something neat with it. Bubba (the main character) is actually a bit of the hero although he would give me nightmares for years after I originally saw it in the late 80's. If you've seen this one before, the mere mention of the phrase "Bubba didn't do it....BUBBA DIDN'T DO IT!" will send chills down your back!
