Mike D Says Thanks For 2010

Hey guys... you have been wonderful all year!!! Our audience has grown so much since I started this website as a place to vent all my geekiness for the world to read. Last January I began the site to only a handful of readers (and no comments... ever!!!!) yet, as of right now we have over 3,000 page views a day!!!!! We got press passes to Comic Con (I still can not believe they gave me a press pass...) interviewed some celebrities, went to some film screenings, got some free schwag, and made a ton of great friends along the way!!! It has been one hell of a year... and I can't wait for year two to begin!!!

I just want to give a few shout outs to some of the people who help make this site possible. First of all, I want to thank my girlfriend Tara for being so patient with me working on CCD all the time. It takes a lot to get 25 posts a week done with a full time job... so if it weren't for her patience and understanding it would never get done. Thanks boo... your the best!

Next, I have to thank my boy, Jeff Bond, for being the all-time best back up man on the planet. Sure, he may be a bit lackadaisical with his posts now that Lost is over (c'mon man... once or twice a month ain't getting it done, son!), but this guy does EVERYTHING else CCD needs done. He puts out the Facebook blasts daily, friend requests all the cool people we write about (so we can get free shit... hehehe) and forwards me at least 65% of all the cool shit we feature on the site. He embodies exactly what we represent here at CCD, and that is that we are constantly on the search for the coolest shit on the planet and giving it to you guys. We are givers here at CCD... and Jeff is one of a kind. Thanks buddy.

I would also like to shout out anybody who has ever contributed to CCD since the beginning. Jeff Bond's Lost recaps and Lego Posts are priceless. Kate Jones keeps us up on our reality shows and makes 'True Blood' that much better by posting her awesome recaps. Kristen Grillo used to keep us laughing with her humorous movie trailer breakdowns... hopefully she will get back to it in 2011 (hint, hint). James West is our resident comic book geek and historian (as well as the best cousin... ever!!!) and baffles us with the fact that he has over 40 years worth of comic book knowledge jammed into a 19 year old head. It truly is amazing. Tommy Lombardozzi... your talent knows no limits. Your artwork puts a smile on my face, constantly. Keep 'em coming kid. Looking forward to many projects with you in 2011!!! Sam James, our foreign correspondent, what can I possibly say to do justice for your presence in CCD existence? This dude flew to NYC from Jamaica to be my camera man at Comic Con... now that's dedication! We gotta find something for you to post about. It's about time you started properly contributing to CCD. Joe Esq, we want more toy stories son! Lets go, they are awesome. Get over to Claudia's and start digging in them boxes for some finds, asap!

You guys help me so much.. and without you I would never be able to get it done. 1,000 thank you's and all the love in the world goes out to you guys. Now get to work!!!!

Finally, I want to shout out some of the cool people I have met this past year. Cal, you are the fucking man. Your website is amazing, and you are directly responsible for motivating me to expand CCD and work so hard at it. I feel a kinship with you, brother... it is probably the fact that we were both teachers. Either way, thanks for being so nice when I emailed you and providing me with a friend way on the other side of the world (OK, it's just Canada... but still!). Keep them cat pics coming son!
Johnny, 'Freddy in Space' keeps me in the loop on all my favorite Horror movie news. You are the man. I always read Bloody Disgusting, and their site is so huge but, you fill the void with the interesting finds that the big sites miss. This is where I feel CCD & 'Freddy in Space' find common ground. On top of that, you are an awesome person. Keep the site going kid... I need more posts!!! My man Jerry Milani from Wizard... good god I can never thank you enough. Jerry was the man who gave us our first press passes ever, for the 2010 Wizard Big Apple Comic Con. He is the man. Thanks for seeing something in us.... hope to work with you again in the future!

In closing, I want to thank anybody who ever read or wrote a single thing here on CCD. You guys make it happen! Now tell all your friends and relatives to become followers of CCD asap... and thank you once again for being part of my life. To anybody I may have forgot.... my bad. I love you guys all the same. Look forward to our second year of CCD... cause it's gonna be EPIC SON!!!!!

I'm Out,

Mike D
CCD Forever

The 2010 Year In Review Meme by Mike DeVito

The 2010 Year in Review Meme by Mike D.

1) 3 Favorite Movie Releases of 2010:

- Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - A perfect movie... nothing else to say.

- Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows pt.1 - What a wonderful first part to the finale of this unreal movie franchise. I absolutely loved everything about it, and it did its job in hyping me up for the final film of the most successful franchises ever!!!

- 'Kick Ass': This is the kind of comic book movie I want to see. It is great. Millar's story is phenomenal, and Vaughn brings it to the screen magically. Also, I have two words for all you guys out there: Chloe Moretz. That little girl is gonna be huge... trust me!!!! Also, how can you not love a movie that features a batshit crazy Nic Cage being lit on fire. Wonderful.

2) Favorite Song of 2010:

'Hold Yuh' - Gyptian

3) Favorite Album of 2010:

Rhianna - Loud - Great album from a great artist. She had a good rebound year after the Chris Brown fiasco, and Love the Way you Lie, What's My Name & Only Girl were some of my favorite songs of the year. Classic.

4) Favorite "New" TV Show of 2010: AMC's The Walking Dead & No Ordinary Family

Honestly, if The Walking Dead was 12 or more episodes then it would have been a slam dunk. But 6 episodes left me wanting more. Sure, No Ordinary Family is cheesy, and schmaltzy, but guess what... I love it. Yeah its a rip of The Incredibles & The Fantastic Four... so what? Not to mention Julie Benz & Autumn Reeser. Good Lord!!!! Watch it... it's great! Also, I love Boardwalk Empire.

5) Favorite "Old" TV Show of 2010: Glee - A fun show that makes me laugh week in and week out. Plus, too many hotties to count. Quinn, Rachel, Brittney, Santana... JEEZUSSSSSS!!!

6) Best Purchase you made in 2010: My Netflix Membership - Holy fucking shit. I watch alot of Netflix. I watched over 500 movies on my Instant Streaming. 500!!! Not to mention about 10 TV series in its entirety. I use it so much, and I love it. Best 8 bucks a month that I spend....

7) New Technology that you acquired in 2010: Blu Ray Player - I have over 1,000 DVD's and don't want to upgrade but, the Blu Ray player plays DVDs (and makes them look better) and I might as well buy any movies FROM HERE ON OUT in a better format. Can't hurt... but I will not double buy anything. EVER!!!

8) Favorite Film you watched on DVD, Netflix or Cable in 2010:

'Exit Through The Gift Shop' - Phenomenal documentary, and all around excellent movie. A must see. Just missed my top 3 movies of the year. (Probably number 4 or 5).

9) Celebrity That you loved in 2010 (1 male & 1 female):

Female: Chloe Moretz - I love this kid. Sure I could have went with Scarlett Johanson or Katy Perry's wonderful TaTa's or Zooey Deschanel's wonderful baby blue eyes. But this kid stole my heart this year. She is great. In 'Kick Ass', she did just that... Kick Ass. She was great. The 'cock signal' line was so amazing, I choked on my popcorn. Great stuff. Also, see her in '500 Days of Summer' as Joe Gordon Levitt's younger sister and her starring role in 'Let Me In'. Phenomenal movie. She is so amazing. Can not wait to see her in ANYTHING she does.

Male: Robert Downey Jr. - Why RDJ you ask? Well, he is my favorite living actor and I feel he is amazing in everything he does. But I picked him here because he is a HUGE star, yet has no problem playing a supporting role ('Charlie Bartlett') or being part of an ensamble cast like he will be in The 'Avengers' (2011). He is perfect. Name me a bad Robert Downey Jr movie... can you? I am so happy that my first Blu Ray purchase was 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang', one of his most under rated performances of his story book career. Keep it up RDJ!!!

10) Celebrity That you hoped would die in a plane crash (1 male & 1 female):

Female: Kate Gosselin, Snooki, and just about every other reality show female on the planet earth. My girlfriend Tara watches a lot of reality shows... so by default I watch a lot of reality shows. One thing I noticed about almost all of them is the fact that the females tend to let it get to their heads the most and act like animals on a regular basis. Why is this? Just take the 'Jersey Shore'. Before that show started, I saw the way the guys looked and said "These guys are going to be the biggest dicks... ever!". In reality, overall they are pretty mellow and cool. The girls are heathens and animals. Especially that goblin Snooki. Grrrrrr! I hate them. If she wasn't responsible for 8 kids, I would really want Gosselin's plane to nose dive. But then they would be stuck with their tool bag father, so I wouldn't wish that on no one.

Male: Steve Martin - Why, oh why Steve? Steve Martin was one of my favorite actors of all time. He was great in everything throughout the 80's & 90's. Then he forgot how to pick roles. He should have never made that movie with Queen Latifah (it's been all downhill since then!) and the fact that he remade 'The Pink Panther' Movies should qualify him for a firing squad. He was not some young actor who took a paycheck and you can understand. He is a multi millionaire and a 30 year vet. He should have left Sellers & Blake Edwards alone. If I ever see him, I am going to smack him with a hamburger for those ridiculous scenes. He has to do some pretty remarkable work to get back in my good graces, and he can start by never making another 'Pink Panther' movie again... ever!!!!

The 2010 Year In Review Meme: Jeff Bond Edition

Here is Jeff's Bonds 2010 Year in review meme... hope you enjoy!

1) 3 Favorite Movie Releases of 2010:

- 'Inception': A brilliant Mindf*ck. Chris Nolan is the director of the decade!

- 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World': One of the best but, also the most underrated film of the year

- 'The Expendables':  I've been imagining a film including all of the action stars I grew up with for a long long time. The success of this one means that sequels will surely follow with the cast of characters becoming more and more impressive.)

2) Favorite Song of 2010:

'All I Do is Win' -DJ Khaled (This was my 'club anthem' for the year)

3) Favorite Albums of 2010:

'BackSpacer' -Pearl Jam (This album came out late 2009 but, I didn't start playing the sh*t out of it until 2010. Arguably the best PJ album since 'VS.')

Honorable Mentions:

'Flamingo' - Brandon Flowers
'Black Gives Way to Blue' -Alice in Chains (also a 2009 release)
'Blueprint 3' -Jay -Z (also released in 2009 but, didn't get any real play from me until 2010)

4) Favorite "New" TV Show of 2010: AMC's 'Walking Dead'

5) Favorite "Old" TV Show of 2010: AMC's 'Mad Men' (Although it's been on for 4 seasons, I just started watching this summer)

6) Best Purchase you made in 2010:

Lego Mini figures: Such a brilliant idea on Lego's part. One of my favorite things about buying Lego, since I was 4 or 5 years old, is to get my hands on the Mini figs that come with each set. Lego decided to create dozens of Mini Figures and package them separately and enigmatically, like baseball cards,  so that they're a surprise each time. The fun part of this is that it gives Lego the opportunity to release figures like a zombie, a roman gladiator, clown, luchadore or even Dracula that wouldn't be so simple to build a whole series around. Fun to trade with friends...or create an army of clown clones! Pure genius

7) New Technology that you acquired in 2010:
3-D Bluray Player and LED TV. I'm in no way a 'Techy' I'm just happy to move my 29in TV back into the bedroom where it belongs and watch TV like a human after my 48in LCD burnt out 2 years ago.

8) Favorite Film you watched on DVD, Netflix or Cable in 2010: 'Danger: Diabolik'. A MUST see.

9) Celebrity That you loved in 2010 (1 male & 1 female):

Female: Katy Perry...hands down. Coolest chick ever. She makes fun music and loves to dress accordingly. She's got the sense of humor of good pal and even married one one of the coolest guys. You'd think I'd hate him for it but, how could one dislike Russel Brand?

Male: Tom Hardy! You might remember him from small parts in 'Layer Cake' and 'RocknRolla' but his first big film 'Bronson' may have been the most inspired work I've seen in a decade from anyone. In addition he steals the shine from every co-star in every film he's a part of. His character in 'Inception' was so quick tongued and brilliant. Both his style and responses to the press are classic. He's rumored to be off to the new Mad Max film these days but, he's guaranteed the top 'dramatic/action star' seat in Hollywood for an unforeseeable future.

10) Celebrity That you hoped would die in a plane crash (1 male & 1 female):

Female: I gotta say, I'm probably not wishing death on any women this year. Women REALLY have to be up to something paralyzingly obnoxious to make me THAT mad at them because, let's face it, they still have the parts I need! If I HAD to choose, though, I guess it'd have to be Heidi Montag from 'The Hills'. I didn't even remember her name and had to look her up...that's how insignificant she should be to everyone! She makes Paris Hilton look like natural born talent who's famous for doing something in comparison. Her every move is a publicity stunt to keep her in some sort of spotlight. Wishing her death via plane crash is probably something she has planned already, herself, for more notoriety.

Male: Michael Bay...every year...until his demise. That's it. I only focus on 1 person at a time until the deed is done. Ask your friends why Heath Ledger is dead.

OHC of the Day: Meaghan Rath

Meaghan Rath is exactly what I started OHC for. An Obscure Hot Chick should be someone who is slightly recognizable and about to break out... and it doesn't hurt if they are easy on the eyes. Ms. Meaghan fits that bill. While you may not have heard of the 24 year old Canadian actress as of yet, chances are that is going to change on January 17th. SyFy is premiering a re-make of the British TV hit "Being Human", which puts three 20 somethings in a apartment together... but there is a catch. The three attractive 20 somethings are a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost respectively. Meaghan plays the ghost... and she looks good doing it. Now, lets get one thing clear. While SyFy may not be a prime network, their original programming is top of the charts among geeks all over the world. Battlestar Gallatica, Stargate, the Mega Monster movies (Megashark vs Giant Octopus) all garner huge ratings... and they are betting on "Being Human" big time. My guess is that this time next year you will be seeing Ms. Rath in plenty of more stuff... just remember where you saw here first!!!!

Wayne Brady & Mike Tyson Take On Bobby Brown

Yes... that headline JUST HAPPENED! I came across this video about a week ago but I forgot to post it. I was on the floor watching this re-creation of Bobby Brown's classic "Every Little Step" music video that is a figment of Wayne Brady's junk food induced imagination. You gotta love that Iron Mike can have fun and kick it.... it goes against his doom and gloom persona that has haunted him forever. Plus, Wayne Brady is fucking hysterical. Honestly, say what you what about him.... but the dude is absolutely hilarious. You also gotta love the accurate representation of the original dress that Wayne & the crew sported... Mike Tyson is in bike shorts and a tank top with church shoes!!!!

Now This Is The Kinda Of Show I Would Watch Every Week

Check out this unbelievable new sport/competition that I can only hope becomes a national phenomenon... it's called the FWL, or Foam Weapons League for all you lames out there. This is for any of you people who ever whipped a fellow friend in the face with a pool noodle or all those guys who buy those awesome Nerf guns and shoot the shit out of each other (on a side note, my brother Anthony bought Mikey a Gatling Nerf gun for Christmas... 200 bullets at a time!!!). Imagine being able to re-create a Roman gladiator type environment with little to no risk of injury or death... I'm in!!! Their motto says it all - "Fake Blood... Real Fighting". Check out this cool video that gives you a peek into the wild world of FWL:

Holy. Fucking. Shit. They have a person named Donnybrook. That is sick. Now, all I'm saying is that with all of these dumb ass reality shows & other wastes of TV time get to air each week... so why not give this a shot? If I have to see one more group of ugly woman with money finding things to argue about or another cake/cupcake competition based show I'm going to get one of these fake foam Claymore swords and smack the shit out of a TV executive in the middle of their weekly board meeting. I am not saying that this would be a huge breakout hit (you never know, it might be)... but could it find a niche audience with geeks like me? Yup, that's a affirmative. You can check out the website for the FWL by clicking here and also friend them on Facebook

These May Be Cool, But I Wouldn't Eat Any Of 'Em.... Would You???

Cover by Chris Garbutt

Check out some of these cool cereal box covers that feature monsters & ghouls galore. They were from a proposed coffee table book from Kreepsville Industries called Cereal Killers. My good friend Johnny from Freddy In Space posted some of his faves from the never published book, and also posted a link to their blog with all of the rest of the pictures. I picked out the few that I liked the best, but you should click here and check out all the rest of them. Also, check out Freddy In Space, cause Johnny got one of the best horror blogs on the planet... believe that!!!

The Greatest Horror Movies That Should Have Been...

These are wonderful. Just wonderful. Artist Brian McLachlan really killed these drawings. Check out all the other cool stuff he got going on over at his website, Smooth & Natural (click the link). What are some other horror mash-ups you would like to see? Tell us in the comment section below, and we'll pass them on to Brian... maybe he will make your requests his next masterpiece!!!

Wu Tang Wednesday - Inspectah Deck - Uncontrolled Substance

Inspectah Deck is one of the most under-rated member of the Wu... and the reason for this has to be because he has not had as much solo success as some of the other members. While he might not have sold as many units on his own, his verses are some of the most memorable n the history of rap. Take the opening lines off of the Wu's first big hit, Protect Your Neck:
"I smoke on the mic like Smokin Joe Frazier, the hell raiser, raising hel with the flavor. Terrorize a jam like troops in Pakistan... swinging through your town like the Neighborhood Spiderman!!!"
He is one of the best to have spit it. Here is one of his solo gems that I particularly love... not one of the most well known Wu songs, but it is so great. Hope you enjoy!!!!

Lost... Grindhouse Style!!!

These great pictures and video come to us from Grape Soda, Ryan Lewis, and Jesse Lockwood and were brought to my attention by Jeff Bond and Superpunch... and they are awesome!!!
